Would you have dated your partner in secondary school or university?

I hear a lot of women say they would not have dated their partner when they were younger and that their current partner is very different from their previous ones. How true is this for you?

I don't think he would have been cool enough for me at school!

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 31/03/2022 18:28

Nope, mostly because the age gap (6 years) would have felt too for me at that stage.

PotteringAlong · 31/03/2022 18:28

Yes, absolutely, but he wouldn’t have dated me.

EatSleepReplete · 31/03/2022 18:28

I definitely would. i used to see him on the school bus & thought he was cute. Never really spoke though. We got together in our 20s. Didn't realise he was the same person until we'd been together a while.

overitall1 · 31/03/2022 18:34

I'm 5 years older than him, so no! He was still at school when I got married the first time. Blush

WhiskeyMakesMeFrisky · 31/03/2022 18:36

Nope, because when I was 15 at school he'd have been 28 😂

Also we're so very different we would probably never have crossed paths in school. In fact, fuck knows how it works now but it just does ♥️

Nothing like previous partners either

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 31/03/2022 18:44

I married mine from uni! Smile

Eightiesfan · 31/03/2022 18:50

Lol, no way, he’d have been 10 when I was 20 so that would be a hard no!

17CherryTreeLane · 31/03/2022 18:52

No, because I liked very bad boys back then, and he's Me Sensible

17CherryTreeLane · 31/03/2022 18:52

Mr sensible!

KylieKoKo · 31/03/2022 18:52

I was 11 when he was 18 so no!

ShinyPikachu · 31/03/2022 18:54

We first met shortly after leaving school as we had friends in common. We definitely weren't interested in each other at the time but I'm glad we met again many years later when we did. Smile

Catnuzzle · 31/03/2022 18:54

No, I'm 5 years older!

Llamapolice · 31/03/2022 18:54

Not in a million years, I was obsessed with being cool (despite being totally uncool myself) and would have found him mortifying.

MargaritasOnMe · 31/03/2022 18:54

No because he was a troublemaker and I was a goody two-shoes!

Babdoc · 31/03/2022 18:55

I met DH my first night at uni! We moved in together 3 days later and were happily married right up to his death at 36. He was my soulmate, I still love and miss him 30 years later.

nettytree · 31/03/2022 18:57

I met my husband when we were both 17. He asked me out. I could not run away fast enough. 10 years later I asked him out. Been married 16 years now. Don't regret a thing, didn't fancy him then.

Sux2buthen · 31/03/2022 18:58

No I knew him then, it's taken a while for things to develop Grinover 20 years

RoundGlass · 31/03/2022 18:58

Nope, no way would I have found him attractive back then.

pudseypie · 31/03/2022 18:59

I've been with my DH since I was in uni, he'd only just graduated, 21 years together now. Quite like the fact we've been through so much together!

catsandquails · 31/03/2022 18:59

Definitely, but I doubt he ever noticed me! He was the year above me (and very attractive.) We eventually got together at 18 and 19 so not that long after school anyway.

oohyoudevilyou · 31/03/2022 19:02

Yes. At 15 or so I just wanted someone I fancied and who made me laugh. That's essentially the basis of our relationship now.

ProfYaffle · 31/03/2022 19:04

I would've dated him at Uni, don't think he would've looked at me though. We have commented before that I was too lacking in confidence at that age, he was too arrogant in his youth - we both improved with age and met at the right point for us.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 31/03/2022 19:07

This is a favourite topic of mine 🥰 I had an enormous crush on my DP from the age of 16 onwards…we didn’t get together until I was 44! So it’s a definite ‘yes’ from me 🥰

Hoppinggreen · 31/03/2022 19:08

I first met DD at Uni but we were just friends and didn’t get together until 4 years after we left
He was a bit of a Dick to be honest
