Would you have dated your partner in secondary school or university?

I hear a lot of women say they would not have dated their partner when they were younger and that their current partner is very different from their previous ones. How true is this for you?

When my husband was in secondary school I wasn’t born 🤣 so no . That sounds so wrong !!! But I think my younger husband sounds great I’m sad we didn’t meet when he was younger but I would of been to young

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/03/2022 20:29

No because he would have been a 1st year (yr7) when I was in 6th form. Eeew!

Marineboy67 · 31/03/2022 20:32

Probably not as I'm 6 years older and I was a bad lad that eventually turned his life round!

Gotajobthrunepotism · 31/03/2022 20:35

I’d have had a wee crush on him. He wasn’t really interested in girls until he was a bit older.

Iuntil I met him I tended to go out with out with older bad boys. Then I met dh...

LeastofLeicester · 31/03/2022 20:36

I did! We met at school! Been married 16 years now.

LuluBlakey1 · 31/03/2022 20:38

Yes because I would have fancied him but we would have split up because he would have been stupidly immature and got on my nerves before too long.

SpringLobelia · 31/03/2022 20:38

Probably not. 15 year age difference. Brought up in different countries and he was married then.

Mind you, I have always had a thing for an older Englishman. So I may well have admired from afar.

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 31/03/2022 20:39

No- he looked like Side Show Bob.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 31/03/2022 20:41

Yes, and I did!
We met on the first day of A-levels, he was my allocated lab partner.
He was, and still is, absolutely what I needed and wanted.
28 years later I count my lucky stars daily.

Furrydogmum · 31/03/2022 20:43

I did, started going out just before my 15th birthday, he was nearly 17 and at a different school - so extra cool. He was gorgeous and lovely then and he's gorgeous and lovely now. I'm 47 next and we've been married for nearly 26 yrs. I don't say it's always easy but we grew together and I wouldn't change him.

Hellocatshome · 31/03/2022 20:44

Not school as he is 5 years older but we did get together at University so that would be a yes.

nannybeach · 31/03/2022 20:45

DH said he wished he'd met me before I got married, first time.
.. no,I'm 7 years older,he was 12 when I got married, definitely NOT!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 31/03/2022 20:46

No because a) I’m older than him and b) he was a bit weird when he was younger (used to eat marmite and onion sandwiches for lunch🤮) c) he had no game even when I met him and I had to ask him out🤣

Myownpapillon · 31/03/2022 20:46

Yep, we've been together since we were 15 :-)

DeedIDo · 31/03/2022 20:46

Oh God no! He's way too short.

karmakemmie · 31/03/2022 20:51

No chance! He was a drunken lout.

Fuuuuuckit · 31/03/2022 20:58

I met my dp at school and fancied the pants off him despite his beautiful on/off gf. He was too busy working his way round 6th form and college, before getting married to said gf. I moved away, got married.

We met again 15 years later whilst both going through tricky divorces. Been together ever since, happy as the day we met (both at school and in later life).

I think we'd have fucked it up if we'd have got together as teens, we appreciate each other more than I ever did my exh.

amylou8 · 31/03/2022 20:59

We have a 14 year age gap, so he'd probably have gone to jail...but if we were the same age then no, 16 year old me would not have like 16 year old him one little bit 🤣

niki26 · 31/03/2022 21:00

I met my DH at uni 19 years ago!

Tibtab · 31/03/2022 21:00

Ha ha I did date my DH at secondary school, I’m now 35 and we’ve been together the whole time.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/03/2022 21:04

No! He's 5yrs younger so would have been way too young. When he was at uni I was already married.
He's 10yrs younger than anyone I'd ever dated before.

Also, he had shockingly bad hair so it's not surprising he didn't have many girlfriends before he met me Grin.

Cameliah · 31/03/2022 21:15

I don’t think I would have dated my DH until I was in my 30s and worried about having poor financial prospects and getting too old to conceive, so I wanted a partner who had a good job and was willing to have a baby fairly soon. Prior to that I would have dated someone for his attractiveness, not his salary or his qualities as a father. House prices were increasingly out of reach and he had a large deposit and was able to get a good mortgage; that wouldn’t have been important to me when I was younger.

Mrssebastianstan · 31/03/2022 21:19

No because as he gleefully points out regularly he is younger by quite a few years…..But even if we were the same age no, he was a swatty sporty git apparently and I was v cool and musical.

SockFluffInTheBath · 31/03/2022 21:22

@Thewheelsfalloffthebus

Nope, mostly because the age gap (6 years) would have felt too for me at that stage.
Same, but if the age gap were less then absolutely yes. I think my teenage self would have been too wild for DH, but maybe I’d not have gone off the rails if I’d had a calm influence like him in my life.
Skelligsfeathers · 31/03/2022 21:22

I met my dh in my first year at uni. Been together 30 years.
He is brilliant and has only got better with age.
