Couples who got together from uni

If you know of a couple (or perhaps you) who have met their other halves at uni, are they still together? Happily?

I got together with my DH at 18. I'm now in 30s and I sometimes wonder how things might have turned out otherwise.

My sister met her DH at uni and they seem very happy, they are in their 40s now.

By the way, they don't have to have gone to uni i just mean it as a shorthand for 18 to 21-22, because i think younger than 18 is too young and older than 22 is still sort of ok in my view to start a serious relationship

What’s the question?

TomNook · 26/06/2020 07:32

Met when I was 22. Can’t see this is abnormal

Mirrorxx · 26/06/2020 07:33

I met by Dh when I was 20 at university. We got married at 25 and are still very happy at 30

Apolloanddaphne · 26/06/2020 07:34

I did and we are still happily married. We celebrate our 35th anniversary this year.

Why is that “sort of” okay?

Anywaythewindisblowing · 26/06/2020 07:35

Met at work when I was 19, married with one son 12 years later.

Aurea · 26/06/2020 07:36

Met my future husband at uni age 20. Married a couple of years later and have been married for 24 years now. Smile

^ what are you saying here?

People meet each other at all sorts of ages in their lives. As long as the relationship is healthy and the couple are happy does it matter?

ShanghaiDiva · 26/06/2020 07:37

Dh and I met at university and still together 32 years later.

Bananasplitlady · 26/06/2020 07:37

I did. Married couple of years after graduation. Divorced now.

Ffsnosexallowed · 26/06/2020 07:38

afromom · 26/06/2020 07:39

My parents met at uni (19&20). They are now 64&65 and remain very happily together

minipie · 26/06/2020 07:40

We got together age 20 at university. Got married years later and after several years of living together, age 29. Still together age 40.

Chemenger · 26/06/2020 07:42

I know at least four couples in their fifties who met either at school or university who are still happily married. I also know people who married straight after university who divorced within a couple of years.

LilaButterfly · 26/06/2020 07:42

I met DH in school when i was 17 (just a couple months before my 18th birthday, so i hope this still counts as a serious relationship!). We are still happily married in our mid thirties now with 2 kids.

My parents met young too, well my mum was 18 dad was 28. They are still happily married now.

Timeforabiscuit · 26/06/2020 07:43

We did, met at university, obtained stunningly mediocre degrees, had a break the summer after graduation, and then together ever since.

I think we did a lot of growing up together, we've spent more than half our lives together now - sometimes I wonder what my life would be like on a different turn (well travelled, but bone crushingly lonely, with a worthy yet very lowly paid career).

I count myself very, very fortunate that it's turned out so well, doesn't mean to say things won't change, but a shared history is a powerful thing imo.

trilbydoll · 26/06/2020 07:43

I know about 10 couples who got together at uni. All still together except 1. They all appear really well suited, like they've grown up together and it's brought them closer.

Mrsfrumble · 26/06/2020 07:48

Met DH 20 years ago in my final year of undergrad when I was 21. We got married 5 years later. Still very happy.

Peaseblossom22 · 26/06/2020 07:51

Met at university , together 36 years , married for 30.

Pinksun12 · 26/06/2020 07:51

Yes, we met at uni, second year, been together ever since, but a few years long distance due career choices. Been together for over 20 years now and very happy. We've done all the growing up together, I think that's a key factor for us.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/06/2020 07:52

Met DH at University at 19. Married at 24. Ten years later, still very happily married, with 9&7 year olds, having moved around Europe with him.

I do sometimes wonder if we 'settled' too young... But that's how life is.

RustyBear · 26/06/2020 07:53

In my first year at university, one of my friends started dating a second year guy, which led to six of us from our women's hall of residence and six from his men's hall joining forces at our respective Christmas formals. Though the original couple broke up a couple of years later, three of the couples from those nights, including me and DH, got married and are still together forty years later. Plus another friend who came up to university engaged to a guy from home is still married to him.

APurpleSquirrel · 26/06/2020 07:53

DH & I met in our first month at uni, got married at 25 & still together now (will have been together 21 years this autumn). I know of at least one other couple from our Uni still together & PIL met as teenagers & still together too.

TomNook · 26/06/2020 07:55

This might be the most boring thread in the world.

What’s the point?

TheNavigator · 26/06/2020 07:55

My, my sister & my best friend all met our husbands at Uni - it was kind of when and where you did meet your life partner, back in the day (I am talking 1980s).

Anyway, over 30 years and many many life changes and adventures later, we are all still together and (as far as I know) rock solid. I just think I really lucked out meeting my DH when I did and I can't imagine what my life would be without him - we have made our lives together.
