Is height really important ?

Had a social distance date with a guy yesterday. Was a little disappointed to see he looked shorter than the 5'11 that was on his profile (I'm 5'7 so quite tall) but then when we got talking I found him a nice person and we seemed to get on great.

Just wondered others thoughts on height and those who have a partner what are your heights ? Does it bother you ?

Oh ok, Tossa, well anyone can rule out dating any one for any reason they see fit. If you don’t fancy them and don’t wish a relationship with them then that’s fine, it does not matter if it’s because of their accent, their hair colour, their weight, their lack of musical ability, their height or the way they hold their cutlery.

That’s our right, no one is entitled to be dated.

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/06/2020 22:01

I am 5 ft 7 and have always preferred shorter / same heighted men. But my tall male friends have always preferred tall females who are at least the same height as them. I think it’s a generation thing. Younger men today tend to prefer slim tall / taller women.

BigBoosh · 22/06/2020 22:05

Yes. You can't fake what you feel.

I iniitally thought it was bullshit that women were discriminating on heiight. I'm 6'2'' so no issues but still I felt it was wrong.

But now after dating a while I'm really loathe to date anyone under 5'6'' as too often I'm just not into it. My ex was very tall and thats made an impact on me.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 22/06/2020 22:08

I’m 5’11 and was made to feel like a giant all throughout my childhood so no I wouldn’t date anyone shorter. My lovely late DH was an inch taller which was plenty.

unicornparty · 22/06/2020 22:12

I wouldn't date anyone shorter than me. You can't help what you find physically attractive.

tabulahrasa · 22/06/2020 22:14

Surely whether it’s important to other people is neither here nor there? It’s whether it’s important to you...

“It seems to be all the rage for men to lie about their height”

Hah, my job involves taking people’s height down... you’d be amazed how few people actually know how tall they are, it’s like they’ve just plucked them out of the air mostly, rofl

YRGAM · 22/06/2020 22:15

@sergeilavrov

I'm 5ft2 (rounding up Blush) and the shortest I ever dated was 6ft 1. DH is 6'4", and I always joke when people ask why I like him that I needed a genetic boost for the heights of children. I think it's fine to like what you like, and so if that's not for you - move on, plenty of taller men about. I agree that the lying and timewasting is a huge no no. I don't understand why people do this, it's surely a form of catfishing?
As in the Russian foreign minister? This is the most bizarre username choice I have ever seen.
SorrySadDog · 22/06/2020 22:16

For me it’s not to do with vanity, but I’m 5ft9 which is above average for a woman but not the tallest, my aunts are all over 6ft. I have a “well built” frame and have always felt like a lump next to my smaller dainty friends so I feel better if I’m dating someone taller. DP is 5ft11 and I’m okay with that, I’m just short enough!

PumpkinP · 22/06/2020 22:22

I don't agree that there would be an uproar if it was a man posting about not dating women over a certain size. Trust me A LOT of men won't date bigger/overweight women , that's very common and not a new thing

AliasGrape · 22/06/2020 22:26

I’m attracted to taller men. DH is 6”3, one long term ex was 6”1, another was 6”4, most men I’ve dated have been 5”11 or over.

That said, the person I ‘fancied’ the most from a purely physical perspective and had the most mind blowing chemistry with was about my height, maybe half an inch taller (I’m just under 5”7). Unfortunately he was an arsehole in other ways but the man was hot.

If you didn’t fancy him you didn’t fancy him but personally if there were enough positives about the first date I’d always give it at least one more just to see if anything develops.

DramaAlpaca · 22/06/2020 22:27

I am 5'10 and have never and would never date a man shorter than me. I simply don't find short men attractive. DH is lucky to have me, he's only an inch taller than I am Grin

AnnaSW1 · 22/06/2020 22:35

It is to me. Only you can say if it is to you!

Joy69 · 22/06/2020 22:37

I'm 5ft 2, my partner is 5ft 3 (just). I'm not going to lie I did find it abit off putting at first as I appreciate that this is short especially for a man. However once we got talking we just clicked. We always have a laugh together & actually it's quite nice to kiss someone the same height. Obviously lieing down it's even less of an issue Grin. I think if someone has an amazing personality & has the traits that you're looking for it would be madness to turn them down purely on height.

amy85 · 22/06/2020 22:38

I am 5"9 and prefer guys who are taller than me.... surely it's my choice and my preference so what's the issue.

I'm also a size 16 so get ruled out by many guy because of this...again that's their preference and their choice so 🤷🏼‍♀️

StarlightLady · 22/06/2020 22:38

Height is not a consideration for me. I have been with shorter, l have been with taller. And unlike weight etc, it is something that nobody has control over. You cannot diet height.

But l would be concerned about someone who was not honest about their height in ghe first instance.

Doje · 22/06/2020 22:43

I'm 5ft8, DH is pretty much the same height.

Height doesn't matter! I fancy DH because he's kind, interesting, driven, intelligent, funny and thoughtful. Those things don't change if he's taller or shorter! I can't believe it's a deal breaker for so many women. You might have missed out on someone amazing by not giving them a chance.

I'm taller than DH when I wear heels and I quite like it. It makes me feel a bit Amazonian. 😁

im5050 · 22/06/2020 22:43

I’m 5ft 6. My DH is 6ft 3. And he is completely in proportion to his height
I love his height
All the guys I dated have been at least 5ft 11 -6ft. But I personally prefer over 6ft at least
I wouldn’t date a guy who was short

DukeOfEarlGrey · 22/06/2020 22:48

It’s just to do with what you find physically attractive, isn’t it? For me, height isn’t the be-all and end-all and I’m tall myself at 5’11. However, I’m only ever attracted to men with darker colouring than me - so tall, dark and handsome is great but shortish, dark and handsome is often great too. Tall, blond and handsome not so much... it’s just taste isn’t it?

CatpissEverdine · 22/06/2020 22:50

I never really thought about it. Childhood crush was Dudley Moore and then Bob Mortimer. as a teen. Both fairly small. Fell head over heels with a 6'7" guy and am now with a 4'9" girl!

Rachel1350 · 22/06/2020 22:56

I'm 5'11, my husband's 6'4. Our teenagers are about to overtake me in height which means that for the first time in my life I'm going to be the shortest amongst the people I spend most time with! I'm actually really excited about this. 🤣🤣🤣

Scott72 · 22/06/2020 22:56

Most women prefer a tall man, but it seems that most men prefer a slim woman, so fair enough I suppose.

I'll just throw out though the average male height is 5'9", so going with statistics: 50% of men will be ≥ 5'9"; 25% of men will be ≥ 5'11"; 15% of men will be ≥ 6'0", 5% of men will be ≥ 6'2".

ThoseBootsAreMadeForWalking · 22/06/2020 22:59

@TossaCointoYerWitcher
Sorry I am below size 10 or I would gladly help you with your example 🤣

coronaway · 22/06/2020 23:01

Height is very important to me - I know it is shallow but I can't fake attraction. 6'1" is my cut off but ideally 6'4/5".

PeaPeaEeByGum · 22/06/2020 23:05

5ft 11 is the ultimate lying about your age height. It’s like they know they can’t get away with 6ft

rooarsome · 22/06/2020 23:05

It is important to me. Most of my life I've felt insecure about my height which stemmed from bullying in school from both boys and girls. I can't wear heels as I feel like I'm a big towering beast over everyone. It's nice to feel "normal" and be enveloped in a big protective hug.
