Dating thread 173 - Winter is coming - 'cuffing' is optional

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. Know your worth.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future

@Lovemusic33 I found they'd mostly changed in the 9 months I've been off. But yeah still loads of potato heads. With beer. And fish. I know that term has offended in the past but I really don't know how else to describe. I despair at the sight of the over 50 year old men out there. Why can't they take care of themselves? I do!

Lovemusic33 · 11/11/2019 15:00

It’s hard work isn’t it? I mainly date the age 40-47 range but I’m getting a lot of younger men popping up but I worry they are out of my league (I’m almost 38), I try and find people who look friendly rather than super hot though I do like a bearded man but not a potato head.

Hinge, after starting well, appears to now be playing jokes on me @Lovemusic33 - loads of POF style 'sweaty massive man in car selfie' photos and two actual WEDDING photos. Ah well, it was nice while it lasted

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 15:26

Sorry to hear it didn't work out with MrSkinny @Lovemusic33.

I'm sorry it's so hard with MrB @shitwithsugaron. I want to give him a shake!

UtterSocks · 11/11/2019 15:29

and yes @unambiguousbeard the over 50s are mostly dreadful but like Lovemusic I worry about going for much younger men in case they are comparing me with twenty-somethings. Rocks and hard places come to mind.

Also, as Hinge only allows short answers to predetermined questions one man has screenshotted a rant about Fake Bitches and Horrible Exes and put it online instead of a photo. FFS!

Seeing Curly again on 24th, he didn’t want to wait until all his competitions were out of the way in December. Lovely chat for nearly an hour over lunch.

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 15:45

OK. It's time for my update... MrSG and I are having a baby in July. We are very excited. We should be moving into our new house some time between nov 22 and dec 13, and then there'll be room for everyone (including the new addition).

unambiguousbeard · 11/11/2019 15:52

Omg!!! OMG OMG omg!!!! Thread baby!!!!

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 15:53

Yes. A thread baby. 😁

unambiguousbeard · 11/11/2019 15:54

Oh that's amazing news @WooMaWang

I'm so excited for you. Isn't the internet funny! I jumped up and shrieked and dd asked why. I can't tell her that someone I never met, whose name I don't know and who I know nothing about is having a baby!!

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 15:56

It is funny. It's amazing how invested we can get in the lives of people we don't know.

But equally, people on this thread will know things about me and my life that no one in my real life knows.

UtterSocks · 11/11/2019 16:05

Ooh congratulations @WooMaWang !!! Wonderful news

MoreNiceCereal · 11/11/2019 16:12

Lovely news @WooMaWang! Congratulations to you all.

Sunshineandflipflops · 11/11/2019 16:20

@WooMaWang Ah, that's wonderful news! Really happy for you and Mr SG. How many children will you have between you?

StealthNinjaMum · 11/11/2019 16:20

@shitwithsugaron I would probably tolerate it if I met with Mr R and a mate and they talked about a hobby because it's hard not to, but the laughing at you and disappearing to another room isn't on. I probably would've said something at the time. I don't think it's reason to dump him - unless he then doesn't apologise or understand what he did wrong.

@WooMaWang that's lovely news. Congratulations!

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 16:28

Too many @Sunshineandflipflops 😂. It'll be 5 between us, but my DS1 will be 20 by the time it's here. So only 4 actual children.

only 😆

saltysally · 11/11/2019 16:29

That's just the best news Woo. Congratulations to you and Mr SG. I'd been keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

Ant330 · 11/11/2019 16:31

Congratulations @WooMaWang really pleased for you both!

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 16:32

Thanks all. I'm so bloody happy (so is he).

I was talking to a friend at work about something and MrSG came up and she immediately asked if she could be a bridesmaid. I hadn't said anything about marriage (or pregnancy) but she seemed so certain. It was funny. I said 'yes'.

saltysally · 11/11/2019 16:36

Mr Camera and I had been talking more but he wasn't going to admit he'd done anything wrong even though I had, and he was keen to point out my errors. His true colours came out today though in a full-on discussion. He's now blocked on every form of social media and comms, unless he calls on a landline etc.

Watch out he's on fab now too though. I told him to join for a genuine reason. He would suit a hookup with an intelligent female. If any of you are in the south east and start speaking to an otherwise literate and rather intelligent man and want to check any details, pm me

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 16:36

I was a bit surprised that it happened so quickly, since I am positively ancient in childbearing terms 39. Turns out we're both very much in working order. I'd been reading horror stories about there only being a 5% chance at 40 and thought maybe my ovaries would have decided to give up the ghost. 😂

Well I can look forward to seeing 'elderly' written on my notes by a midwife.

WooMaWang · 11/11/2019 16:37

Sorry things didn't work out for you @saltysally.

saltysally · 11/11/2019 16:50

Oh I'm fine @woo

Let's just focus on your happy news x

unambiguousbeard · 11/11/2019 16:51

Yes you're lucky @WooMaWang mine gave up the ghost by 36 but that's another time and another thread. And in fact another forum altogether. Never goes away though. Think that's why I find accidental pregnancy so incredible almost miraculous. Never known it myself. Never known natural conception in fact let alone accidental
