Dating thread rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize - they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread

And a reminder - you don't know them until you know them!

Tom It was all going fine until one French guy was chatting to me in French - I did ok to start with but when he admitted he couldn’t speak English I’d pretty much run out of my schoolgirl French!!

Hahah!! I thought it was just me who did that when I come across someone with my ex’s name!!

Kin you see you won’t need the tv you’ll be too busy travelling the world

Kinunir · 16/07/2018 20:27

Half, Je veux te prendre au lit et te baiser dur ce soir

and then you will give me the goddamn tv back!!!!

BendyLikeBeckham · 16/07/2018 20:39

halfdutch I used to swipe left on names until I realised how many people use a different profile name than their real one. I found this out by asking them. I now no longer swipe left on name alone!!

ValMc1 · 16/07/2018 20:46

Temps de douche froide pour vous, je pense lol

@coolcahuna I think you can see where someone's locality is on badoo in terms of town although I'm sure you can hide it in your settings if you want. I also get notifications if I've "bumped into" someone although I've never actually been in contact with anyone I've supposedly bumped into!
You can message without swiping on there also but it's easy enough to block someone!

In a way I like that because it's got me talking to some people I probably would have swiped left with on first glance!

Kinunir · 16/07/2018 20:51

I was on the train last Friday when a woman sat opposite me. As she lowered herself into her chair, I received a Badoo notification to say I'd bumped into someone. I looked across the carriage, wondered if it was her, thought left swipe and then noticed how she kept looking at her phone and then back up at me. Hmm

esk1mo I've learned from this process that I have more than one 'type' which surprised me.

Intellect has to be on par though, otherwise we are unequal. Education and job type is irrelevant, it's IQ that matters to me.

The different types, including rough bad boys, and secret geeky bad boys all appeal to me in various ways. Someone once suggested to me that if one man couldn't fulfil all of my needs, then seeing several who all bring something different to the table was a sensible step. I'm inclined to agree.

UnimaginativeUsername · 16/07/2018 20:57

I’m not into the tattoos and motorbikes. Geeky, however, is fine.

I swipe left on anyone with the same name as my ex

I do this too. He has a very common name too.

I don’t care if the names are fake. I’m still not swiping right for people with that name.

HalfDutchGirl · 16/07/2018 20:58

Kin Certainment non Monsieur Kin et vous n’avez pas le tv

Val Hahahaha!!

Bendy ah, good point, I’d never thought of that!!! May have to rethink me left swiping on men called Duncan and Nigel!!

BendyLikeBeckham · 16/07/2018 21:00

daffo I've got one on the go already, but there's always room for more! Send em over.

I may have a spare geek or two in return.

Kinunir · 16/07/2018 21:01

Baise, c'est le mien half Angry

BendyLikeBeckham · 16/07/2018 21:01

...or to share. I don't mind sharing Wink

I think there's a lot of wisdom in that - it's rare to find one individual who can fulfil you on every level, be that dating, relationships, friendships or any other context.

BendyLikeBeckham · 16/07/2018 21:29

wise words indeed kin

I've just confirmed a 'quick drink and run' first date with someone and his reply was "yippee". I've gone right off him Confused

Arranging another first date for a different day and I've been turned down! He doesn't want to travel for just an hour of time together, so will wait until I have more time available. Not sure if I might break my first date rule for him. He will have to wait a couple of weeks though. Plenty of banter in the interim.

Now I've just got to put my mother off from visiting that day!!

DaffoDeffo · 16/07/2018 21:30

Ooh bendy firstly I'll be coming out of a drought by end August I hope and now I get to partake in a threesome! what a week!

Bloke1 has had to cry off till week after- we are both hardly free this week so it's not a surprise. Still on for Mr Local and Mr Far away this week then Mr Sex and Bloke1 next week.

My kids think this is hilarious!

Kinunir · 16/07/2018 21:33

I think I need to get my arse off of here and do a bit more swiping again:

Miss TA#1 is away for almost a month
Miss Artist is unwell
Miss TA#2 is away for a fortnight from Wednesday
Miss Skoda has recently been serviced and I'm not sure when the next checkup is due.

Dan89 · 16/07/2018 21:48

What's a geeky bad boy?

HalfDutchGirl · 16/07/2018 21:50

Well if my dates with Mr PP and Mr T this week don’t come to anything I’ve realised I’m sort of back to flipping square one. Am still pining for Mr Local (and his body!) may have to go to his and just sit on his door step! Only ones left then are Mr Italian (drool) and Mr Elusive.

Kin get those fingers swiping!

Daffo My daughter thinks it’s hilarious too! She keeps checking up on me, our roles have completely reversed in a year!

Bendy ‘yippee’ hahahaha

BendyLikeBeckham · 16/07/2018 22:08

I so would

Kinunir · 16/07/2018 22:21

You lot make it so complicated with all these traits. I just need leather.

And Kate Beckinsale.

Actually, forget the leather.

wishywashy6 · 16/07/2018 22:31

God I think I need a reality check and a slap 👋🏼

Mr Youngbutold has just arranged a date with me. He's only 24 (I'm 36) but I've been having lovely text conversations with him for a couple of weeks now. He makes me laugh, hasn't once attempted anything sexual on me, sweet and so so easy to chat with.
No "it's up to you" or "what do you want to do?" he's asked me what food I like and a date and time and he's making all the arrangements

It's like a breath of fresh air after some of the other douches I've come across on OLD

I don't see this turning into a LTR because of age etc but I'm grinning like a schoolgirl at the moment 🙈🙈

Someone kick me?!

Kinunir · 16/07/2018 22:35

I don't see this turning into a LTR because of age etc

Just ride him into the next morning and hobble home with a smile on your face.
