New thread :). Thought I'd start this one like I ended the last one - Bertie crashed out after a busy day's mischief making.

Afternoon all
poor you Cake - grumpy , tired children , when you yourself are feeling the same is hard, hard . Hope they sleep tonight .
Jane - hope the head is better
Its not too bad here, but warmer than the temp, IYSWIM . I did my stint at the allotment, had lunch, and thought to sit and watch some tennis. Settled in with knitting - off for rain ! So DH switched to watching F1 qualifying. I went and did some pottering in the garden. By the time I got back in ( time tends to get away from me in the garden) the second semi final, last set was on...ah well .
Just now have to decide what to cook for tea. DH was supposed to be going out, so I kept a piece of salmon from last night's tea to eat cold - he isn't going now. So - risotto or pasta to stretch it to two with lots of extra veg I guess....

Afternoon all

Quietish day. Swimming this am, then into town with DS2 (to forget to get things!) Should have got myself new summer shoes but didnt, but did manage to get a new bra. Was going to do that bra intervention but never got around to it so just took the opportunity and found one eventually that fitted Smile WIll do it properly after the hols. Have a pile of them to try on on my bed later as some are past it! Why are bras always last on your list of things to renew?

Bit the bullet and making 'shhh you know what'' this time letting the syrup cool properly and fingers crossed thats what the problem was last times. DS2 and I got enough flowers for 3 lots! Just read you can freeze them and just use them straight from freezer so might do that tomorrow or monday as there is such an abundance of them this year.

Kitchen cluttered with stuff for you know what so maybe chinese takeaway is in order?

Cake hope everyone settles down for the evening and everyone gets a good nights sleep.

Sunny, cloudy, windy, warm, cool, pick one any one and we are having it here today!

JaneJeffer · 24/06/2017 18:02

My headache is just starting to go now.

Just managed a bit of hoovering, filled the dishwasher and a couple of loads of laundry because DM rang me to come and help with some unexpected visitors so I had to rush off. It's nice of people to visit but I wish they would phone first and not just call in on elderly people without a bit of notice! DF never has a clue who anyone is any more and usually falls asleep anyway.

I'm trying to keep track of the tennis scores. My red button doesn't work any more and I don't know why!

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 24/06/2017 21:05

Hello, they've both been shipped off to bed, I've had a massive bowl of pud (after a big portion of curry) and we've wrapped all presents ready for Monday morning when my baby is 5. How did that happen? Shock

Might take myself off to bed soon.

Willow it's always my underwear - pants, socks and bras that are last priority! Hope the you know what works Wink

Sleep well all of you!

Chasingsquirrels · 24/06/2017 21:09

Struggling tonight (boys with their dad).
Ds1 had a friend over yesterday - they wanted to see their girlfriends in the next village and his friend is further away so Ds1 asked if he could stay over.
His mum picked him up this morning and came in for a coffee, turns out they are involved in the local Explorers group which Ds1 decided not to attend - and it's being turned around, so he is reconsidering now.
Then Ds1 & ds2 went to scouts (Ds1 goes as a young leader) and I brought the scouts accounts up to date.
Down to school at midday to watch ds2 do the maypole to open the school fair, chatted to a few people then went to scout leadership team wrap up meeting for the year.
Then home and the boys went a couple of hours ago and having been with people in the day I'm now really missing John.
I don't do crying that much I don't think, more just overwhelmingness that I have to breathe through.

Sorry, I keep reading through to respond and just can't keep things in my head.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 24/06/2017 21:28

Don't worry, just brain dump if it helps. Still here watching Bond and happy to keep you company.

Chasingsquirrels · 24/06/2017 21:36

Thanks cake, I suppose it just overwhelms at times - and I need to appreciate that it doesn't overwhelm all the time.
I'm watching Would I Lie To You on Dave, with Terry Wogan.

Got the WAY walk at the local NT property tomorrow and the going to my parents for tea with the boys - one of my mum's younger brothers is there for a week or so and it's his birthday on Monday. He has Downs syndrome, I don't know if he knows John is dead, and he appears to have early onset dementia which is apparently reasonably common with Downs - so I don't know if he'd remember anyway.

It seems a long time since John held me.

YourselfOrSomeoneLikeYou · 24/06/2017 21:48

I don't feel like I have any wise words - inexperienced and foot in mouth anyway, but I'm here... Hope the WAY walk goes well. Might be helpful to physically be with others who are on the same path.

I'm in bed now with the iPad hence the name change bloody technology but will be around for a bit.

Chasingsquirrels · 24/06/2017 21:52

Oh you are lovely cake thank you - but you should go to sleep, you'll be up earlier than I want to think about in the morning!

Somerville · 24/06/2017 21:53

Your description (overwhelmingness you have to breath through) sent a shiver up my spine. I call it flooding - my sorrow at missing DH1 is there all the time like a little dripping tap, but suddenly sometimes (used to be very often but increasingly less until stupid pregnancy hormones got me down) that sorrow floods out and overwhelms me.
Sometimes the distraction or reading or writing or talking helped. But more often I just needed to be with it for a while. Having someone next to me while I was 'being with it' sometimes helped - I know you've got people to call on if you need that. Flowers

bookbook · 24/06/2017 22:05

ah Chasing - I am here too now. Sorry, have been crocheting, just put it down. ((hugs)) . No words really, just here for you x

YourselfOrSomeoneLikeYou · 24/06/2017 22:06

Nah I've got good Make up to hide the dark circles and I think the cows up the hill are calving cause there are noises floating down which reminds me if what I sounded like in the maternity unit Blush

Glad Somer is also here for you x

DramaAlpaca · 24/06/2017 22:34

I'm here with a handhold too Chasing. I'm not much of a one for wise words, but I'm good for cups of tea and

Went to town today to do a food shop, we have a few small supermarkets locally but the nearest big shops are about 15 miles away.

I also had to get my ear cartilage piercing checked and the jewellery changed, which was very fiddly & took a few attempts. I'm going to have to leave it in because I don't think I'm going to be able to change it myself. I had it done on a bit of a mad impulse and didn't think about the practical aspects before I got it done at all! It's most unlike me, I tend to think things through in advance Confused I do like it though, and the reactions to it amuse me.

I'm in front of the TV with a glass of wine and the dogs. Took them for a lovely walk & a swim today, so they are tired.

bookbook · 24/06/2017 22:48

I am dreadful with fiddly stuff - I can knit, crotchet, sew, but put something in my hand that I can get upside down/back to front and I will . I have lived in this house for a long time, but get the key in the lock first time? not a chance ....

bookbook · 24/06/2017 23:20

well, bit of a light weight here - time I headed for bed.
Thoughts and Prayers are with you all - extra ones for Chasing ( and Juan )
Night all, sleep tight

Chasingsquirrels · 25/06/2017 00:33

You are all so lovely - thank you.

My WAY contact who I mentioned about on here just after I joined WAY (gave me their mobile no. and we've been chatting periodically on WhatsApp) messaged me and then my friend replied to my text about a walk so I went over to hers and we did a circuit round the village. Then had another chat with WAY contact when I got home.

Somer I feel the same, sometimes I just have to let myself be in that place. And mostly it's when the boys aren't here - but not every time.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 25/06/2017 06:29

I went to bed at the point where the iPad slipped out of my hand and woke me with a start!

I'm glad you managed to get out for a walk. I did it last night, just to get milk, and it does help clear your head doesn't it.

DS slept rather well but of course we've been up a while. Both children have a bit of homework to do before we head out to theme park for the day and then just going to bung a whole chicken in the oven with some salads and crusty bread. Can't be doing with a full on roast!

Willow I had my belly button pierced in my previous life which was fine until ex's watch caught on it one day while being uhm amorous. Got rid of it quite quickly after that!

Hugs to you all.

bookbook · 25/06/2017 14:26

Afternoon all
Been a bit rushed around here today - I got up a bit late (rather unusual for me) so everything is running late grrr.
Just sitting down now after getting a load of washing in and getting veg prepped up for tea ( everyone here tonight). Its looking damp on Tuesday, so brought forward the washing load list forward :)
Have a bit to do this afternoon - dug up all my onions and garlic this morning, so I need to sort them out to dry.
Other than that - its' warm and sunny and there are loads of strawberries for tea that I also picked this morning .
Hope everyone is okay -Juan Chasing and Selena - particularly
Have a nice afternoon all

JaneJeffer · 25/06/2017 14:33

Had a big burst of energy and got loads done this morning so I'm sitting down to watch the tennis now.

Cake that sounds painful Grin

Hope today is better for you Squirrels

Chasingsquirrels · 25/06/2017 15:03

Hope the theme park is/was good cake.

book are you secretly staring in The Good Life? Wink

I went to my WAY meet up this morning, varied mix of people. Weather was threatening rain but brightened up, we walked to the kids area and they all played then back and a few had picnics and others got stuff from the coffee shop, so we were about 4 hours altogether.

Popping over to a friends to borrow her patio washer attachment shortly (although I appear to have lost enthusiasm) and then over to my parents for tea when the boys are home.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 25/06/2017 15:52

It was busy but we had a good time. DS very tired and excited about his birthday so a bit horrid now that we're home. Nearly tea time Wink

Glad the meet up went well Squirrel

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 25/06/2017 15:58

Jane DH and I don't love going to the theme parks, but they're only young once and I try and do a lot with them rather than buy a lot if that makes sense...

JaneJeffer · 25/06/2017 16:01

I meant the piercing Cake but I've been to Chessington which was probably more painful Grin

Willow2017 · 25/06/2017 16:23

Afternoon all.

You all sound very busy!

Was out this am to ds2's p7 'do'. Bowling and pizza and had a chat with other mums while there. Have been getting through my 'to do' list and applying for more jobs. One at a pet supplies store. Why do they do these questionaires that have no definitive answer? One size does not fit all where customers/work relations are concerned! And the icing on the cake 'If you described yourself as a pet which would it be and why?' FFS! Waffled on what I think they wanted to hear about being a 'dog'... what happened to just going for interviews? (old bint!)

Teen doing my head in, am going to threaten to send him home with his dad tomorrow and sod the holiday if he doesnt get with the programme. Lazy doesnt come close today.

Anyone know how much spending money I should take for 2 weeks? Never taken kids to Spain before and obviously very different from USA where I expected to spend loads as was our 'dream hol' and there was plenty to buy! I dont know how much the meals out will be, excursions etc if the kids will even want to go on any, arghghgh help! Basically 3 adult meals out, snacks, few drinks in pm for me maybe (I am too lightweight to drink these days)

Glad the meet up went well Squirrels sounds like a fun day.

Cake I do like theme parks but I am a woose and dont go on the rollercoasters! They scare me rigid. We went to Chessington a few years ago and had a nice time (apart from when I accidently got on the 'dragon log flume' which I didnt realise went up about 7 million feet above and behind me when I was watching it go round. I thought it was a little kids ride and if I could have got off at the bottom of the climb I would have, sick to my stomach doesnt come close!

Book that all sounds like way to much hard work, you could open a market garden!

bookbook · 25/06/2017 20:54

Evening!
well, the day has truly run away from me - family all turned up early , so missed the tennis I had sat down to watch.
Cake however much you enjoy the day, it always seems to end in tired children - hope everyone sleeps well tonight
I really enjoy the allotment - I started when still full time working, it was so nice to go and forget everything . Now, I love being able to go and pick the things just hours before eating, and getting fresh air and exercise. I tend to grow stuff that is either hard to buy in the shops , or is expensive. But I am nowhere near as dedicated as others !
Chasing - sounds as if you managed a good day :)
Willow - it is all nonsense , this interview lark , goodness knows what they think they find out about you :)
I have absolutely no idea on spending money, - DH has never been one for excursions , so we just used to allow so much a day for everything , and hope for the best!
