New thread :). Thought I'd start this one like I ended the last one - Bertie crashed out after a busy day's mischief making.

Evening
Cake so sad to hear Juan is struggling , and glad that you are able to let her know we are thinking of her, and wishing her strength.
Ended up being quite busy - all ironing done, went back to do a bit at the allotment, got the soup made. A bit of shopping.
Now about to sit and crotchet.
I am feeling very old today - every where on the news has been about it being the hottest since 1976. - erm - the year I got married .. the sound bites on the radio from then feel like they come from another era ( I suppose they did). I do remember having to put a brick in the toilet cistern to save water when flushing, and our holiday in August in Derbyshire was a problem due to risk of fires.....
Hope everyone has a good evening
Thoughts and Prayers x

Chasingsquirrels · 21/06/2017 21:04

My thoughts to Juan as well.

I did another couple of hours pressure washing and got all outside the back door and round the conservatory done, so just the actual patio bit left to do. Friday afternoon maybe.

Think I might put the climbing frame and swing set on the local Facebook selling site, they aren't really used any more and just take up space. I'll keep the trampoline for the moment as that does still get used.

DramaAlpaca · 21/06/2017 21:50

I remember the summer of 1976 as well, I was 12 and I got heatstroke which wasn't fun.

Cooler here today, cloudy and very muggy.

Hope all well with everyone.

JaneJeffer · 22/06/2017 00:09

Hi everyone, haven't been on for a while. This thread disappears on the app if I don't post for a couple of days. Hope all are doing ok. Sorry to hear Juan isn't too good at the moment Flowers

Not getting sunstroke here. I actually put a fire on today because it got so chilly! I remember 1976 walking home from school in sweltering heat.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 22/06/2017 06:38

Morning all

Will pass on all the well wishes.

DS slept for 10 1/2 hours but I really struggled with the humidity. Very cloudy and close this morning so wondering if we will see the rain.

Taking DS to school, getting some diesel and more bark chip - got 3 bags which only did half of the patch I need to sort - and then for the marathon bake session.

DD is late at school this afternoon so will collect DS and go to the park with him till she's done.

Aw book you might be old(er) in numbers but you have the get go and energy of a 20 year old Wink

Well done Squirrel that's a lot of work!

Willow I'm sure there's no point worrying about dieting if there's a holiday coming up...

Waves to Jane glad you found it again.

bookbook · 22/06/2017 08:38

Morning all
Lovely morning here
Chasing - it must look lovely now. And getting rid of garden stuff will make it look very tidy too. - We have just got rid of a big Wendy house, and boy does it make it easier to cut the grass. The slide is due to go now ( he doesn't use it apart from racing cars down it )
Drama and Jane - in my mind it is still called 'The Year of the Drought' . When I married in March, I had to wear my DM 's thermals under my dress, it was so cold! But come summer - I worked in a place with ceiling to floor windows , (no thermal break, no reflective film.) We cooked.
Cake - wow - great news on DS sleep - hope you have cracked it. He may well be punch drunk for a while , catching up with it. At least its a bit cooler for baking .Can you make the mixture in one go, or do you need to do it in batches ? I love my enormous mixer - it copes with anything I throw at it ( well, preferably in it!)
I must admit , I don't really feel old , then look in the mirror - its always a bit of a shock Grin .
I'm sat here, and should get a bit of a shift on . Tidy up the kitchen, shower, and then out with DH . Off to pick up a back up chest freezer for the garage,-( only a second hand one ) ready for the onslaught of produce . Its to replace the spare we have , which has proved to be not quite big enough, or energy efficient enough either - it frosts up a bit too much for my liking.
Willow - I hope you are having a restful day- and after all that sorting you deserved that chocolate!
Hope everyone has a good day
Thoughts and Prayers xx and some strength and ((hugs)) for Juan

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 22/06/2017 10:05

I bake by hand Shock even though we have a MagiMix. Just prefer it. The butter is so soft it's easy peasy this morning.

I've got diesel, finished the bark patch and baked a dozen cakes. Now a quick sit down before tackling the 2nd batch.

book It was freezing when DH and I got married in April, bah!

Willow2017 · 22/06/2017 12:49

Hi all

Cake i had a restless night too, just couldnt get to sleep then woke up a couple of times. Its not great fun.

I am demented with the weather today! Its warm but cloudy and spots of rain/dark clouds then nothing. I have been out with washing and brought it back in but no proper rain! Of course if I put it out and start on something it will be bucketing down and I wont notice!

My fridge is playing up, have got it down to about 1 on the setting but still only just within the 'safe zone' will maybe have to defrost it or phone the damm insurance. Arghghghghghghg

Went into town first thing and got another plug adaptor for the hols and few bits and bobs and went for my coffee and croissant. Lost myself in my book for half an hour, bliss.

I remember that wonderful summer too, I was 15 Shock I also look in the mirror and think "who the hell are you, you auld wummin" Smile I tell the kids I am 21 plus tax and insurance Smile

Englebert on the tv, I remeber him from my childhood being on the tv a lot and on the radio. Still going strong, good on him. (God I am old!)

SelenaValentina · 22/06/2017 13:01

I'm the one who's old! I'd been married 10 years during that summer (and should have left him 10 years and one day before).

What is it about hot weather that makes everything go wrong/be hard work? I should be sorting out house but really can't be bothered - actually I don't know where to start it's such a tip.

Off to see DH soon and taking a neighbour. DH is very sleepy now that he's on syringe drive but recognises most of visitors.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 22/06/2017 16:41

Glad to hear DH is comfortable Selena

Ah, nothing like a wrong marriage. I saw my now DH's ex in the shop today (unexpectedly). Very shallow, but I thought how awful she looked and felt pleased. sorry He's a wonderful man and she treated him very badly, but I'm sure my ex's wife thinks I did that to her wonderful husband too Grin

I've been on my feet all day but I did the cake and it's boxed up ready to go. Will upload a picture when my phone syncs with the laptop.

When do you go Willow? Seems like you've been packing and organising forever.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 22/06/2017 16:54

PS Juan sends her love back to you all.

Willow2017 · 22/06/2017 16:54

Cake next Friday. Told you I was over organised Blush I am just putting things in as I get them washed or remembering things, honest. Cases are still half empty 😀 well kids ones are 😉

Selena glad DH is comfy too.

Feeling a little grotty this afternoon. Hopefully not got any bugs.

DramaAlpaca · 22/06/2017 17:06

I've been in contact with Juan and she wants us all to keep the thread warm for her until she is ready to come back to it.

As we are such a chatty lot we'll have no difficulty whatsoever doing that, will we ladies? Grin

Chasingsquirrels · 22/06/2017 18:07

It's 3 months today since John died. I've been writing 22/3/17 on all my paperwork today instead of 22/6/17. I don't think I'm any more or less upset than any other day, but it's obviously there in my subconscious.

Decidedly cooler today, and cloudy - with a bit of rain.

Seeing a client in the morning, then meeting the local widow I contacted, am wondering why now - in my typical anti-social way, but I'm trying to shout down that internal voice!

Then hopefully I'll pressure wash the rest of the patio in the afternoon.
Actually doing something about the back garden is a much bigger task - but am going to ask ds1 to mow when we get back from joggers this evening which will at least make it look better.
I'll also ask ds2 to vacuum the house and I'll finish getting tea ready and give the bathrooms a quick once over.

I don't remember the heatwave of 1976, I would have been 4.

bookbook · 22/06/2017 20:15

Evening all
who are you calling chatty Drama ? My DH says I could start a conversation in an empty room Grin
Willow - worst weather for washing. I don't try to pack until the day before - if I do, I have to take it all out again , just to make sure its all there !
Cake - you bake by hand Shock - I have a big Kenwood - everything gets done in it, and I don't have to try at all :) Hope the decorating goes well - I am absolutely useless at it .
Selena - trying to tidy when it is a mess is hard - I end up doing a set thing, like putting all the books tidy, or do the paperwork into folders . Trouble is , there is always a point when you wish you hadn't started.... usually when you are tired, and want to stop. Hope the visit to DH went okay.
Chasing (hugs) - definitely a sub conscious thing by sounds. In a way, its good that you did sort the meeting - it is too easy to say I will try another time, and the opportunity slips away. I suspect that though out of your comfort zone , it is a positive thing to have done.
Had a lovely day, really great lunch -
now sat on here, and sort of watching Gardeners World, and should be de-stalking redcurrants ready to freeze - picked the first couple of ponds yesterday, so really need to be done .
Have a good evening all

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 22/06/2017 20:46

I'm also watching GW (again). Just background noise really.

It's all done and looks good book so a good day's work.

I'm sure we'll manage drama I'm social but only with people I know/feel comfortable around.

Squirrel I hope your meeting went well and an extra (((hug))) - 3 months is no time at all.

Willow I hope you don't get poorly!

Willow2017 · 22/06/2017 21:27

Evening all.

Feeling better now thanks Cake dont know what it was. Took some stemitil and had a nap on the sofa and sent kids up the shop for sausage rolls and crisps for tea, bad mum😀

Book I still do that I am a hopeless case 😀 But I did put the washing back out and it stayed fair.

squirrels its no time at all. Hope your meet up is good for you.

Somerville · 22/06/2017 21:34

Hello all. Hope juan doing okay-ish, please send her my love, whoever is in touch.

squirrels Hope the time with a fellow wid' goes well. That's something I find massively helpful in my life though obviously depends a bit on the person and how much you have in common.

bookbook · 22/06/2017 22:06

I forgot to say - baby has arrived at lunchtime today - a little boy 9lb 4oz :)

bookbook · 22/06/2017 22:07

you reminded me Somer - how are you?

Somerville · 22/06/2017 22:25

I'm fine, thanks, book. Well, now that my bedroom is no longer as hot as hell. The cold pillow you recced was great, BTW.

I've got a bit lost on this thread. Who does the baby belong to? (And 9lb - ouch! Mine were all little 6 pounders and I hope their little brother continues that trend.)

bookbook · 22/06/2017 22:49

ah, my nephews partner - she was induced and it didn't work, so had a c section ( baby wasn't due until July 7th) I was saying that I had knitted a baby jacket, and was waiting with baited breath :)
Glad to hear the pillow helped!

JaneJeffer · 23/06/2017 00:14

Waves back at Cake.

Congratulations book, thats a good weight for two weeks early and you have his jacket ready to keep him warm. You are a hive of activity Grin

Drama glad you've been in touch with Juan. We will keep chatting until she's able to return. Haven't seen you on the tennis thread for a while. Didn't get to watch today so I must check the scores.

It's gone very wintery here tonight. Hope we get a bit of summer when school finishes. I enjoyed the couple of warm days we got.

DS finished his exams today. Seems to have got on ok but Economics was a bit tricky yesterday. We can only wait and see now.

Hope everyone else doing ok.

DramaAlpaca · 23/06/2017 00:42

Glad the baby arrived safely book, that's a big baby!

Jane it's wintry too here, I'm thankful it's cooled down actually. Glad DS got on OK with his exams. I must pop back onto the tennis thread, I haven't seen much of the grass court season so far.

Chasing I was thinking of you today on the three month anniversary Flowers Hope your meet up goes well tomorrow.

SelenaValentina · 23/06/2017 09:23

Well, the nurse said yesterday that DH is virtually pain-free and the end is quite near Sad, but we knew that the syringe driver would hasten things on. Don't suppose you're ever ready for it.

It is raining, windy and chilly here, guess that's summer over? The only light on my horizon is that my cleaner has returned from her 3 month visit to wherever and is coming today. She may well turn round back when she sees it Blush but it will spur me on to get sorting. Maybe.

Flowers to everyone, especially Juan and Squirrels
