New thread :). Thought I'd start this one like I ended the last one - Bertie crashed out after a busy day's mischief making.

Evening all
Just got down from a bath - and still too hot.
I really don't like the heat, I don't sleep, and lurk inside when I can during the day
So today has been a bit lazy/bitty. Got home after the shop stint and some lunch. Watered everything in the greenhouse, pottered and tied up tomatoes onto canes. Then went in and skulked - and did some knitting. Did a bit more gardening a bit later when it got a bit cooler.
Chasing - It sounds really hard for you . Is there anyone that your DS trusts to act as some sort of sounding board or intermediary - an aunt/uncle/good family friend ? It is hard enough bringing up children, without factoring in ExDH and his relationship with your DS.
Cake - a full day ahead for you - hope you manage some sleep!
Thoughts and Prayers to all
Sleep well xx

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 18/06/2017 06:00

Hello, we managed an extra half hour so hoping DS will get through the day a bit better than yesterday's grump-a-thon.

Lovely day already. I'm not a fan of the heat or humidity either, but I really try to make the most of it because we have so little of it.

Thinking of you all x

bookbook · 18/06/2017 08:27

Morning all
Hot already this morning, so am off to do the work at the allotment early, then back earlier to miss the worst of the heat.
Cake - brave , but glad to hear DS got a bit more sleep- it should ease soon for him hopefully
Quiet day - off to see DD1 after lunch for a couple of hours. DH is being taken out for a meal by DD2 tonight , so tea by myself . Will slob with bits on a plate I think.
Its going to be a hard, hard day for you Juan I suspect, so know I am thinking of you .
Take care all
Thoughts and Prayers x

Chasingsquirrels · 18/06/2017 09:04

Hope everyone has a good day.
Hot here too, and very still.

Had planned an evening walk with friend yesterday but she called and asked if I fancied going to the carnival with them, so wandered down there for an hour to listen to a local band play.

Meeting up with one of the people I've contacted recently later today.

Considering a (short) bike ride atm although it already feels too hot. I do no exercise and need to find something ...

Chasingsquirrels · 18/06/2017 12:28

Well I went for the bike ride - it's very hot! Didn't go far, need to build up a bit as haven't been doing any exercise. Called in on a friend in the next village for a quick drink.

Meeting someone at the local NT place later for a stroll and a chat - one of the acquaintances I've messaged. So hopefully that will be good. Won't be too long as I have to be back for the boys.

Bits on a plate sounds good book, we have "bits & pieces" when I can't be bothered - ham, boiled eggs, cheese, crackers, grapes etc.

bookbook · 18/06/2017 12:41

Chasing - bike riding in this heat - you must be mad!
Stroll and chat sounds nice though :)
I adore hard boiled eggs - I have some smoked mackerel (DH hates it) , my own home grown cucumber, some spicy salad leaves and little gem lettuce - tomatoes are not ripe yet, but I do have a few peas I picked this morning , (love them raw) along with a handful of new potatoes , and lots of strawberries . A feast to me :)

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 18/06/2017 15:14

Well done on the bike ride! Hope the meeting goes well.

There's nothing like having a meal of exactly what you like when you're home on your own is there?

We've had a good day so far, just about to have a BBQ for tea and then I need to hoover half the lawn that's made it in and get everything ready for the week.

Have been in touch with Juan and they are all sad - understandably.

Willow2017 · 18/06/2017 15:19

Hi All

Well shopping went ok, got everything we needed in one shop (how much?) We had lunch and ds2 wanted to go to the pictures but we would have had to wait too long for next showing and we were all too hot and tired and grumpy by then really. So he had his usual introverted downer once back into car but he slept some on the way home so woke up ok Smile

Spent an hour doing ironing today, so damm hot here, I could have done without that!

Have been sorting out more stuff for cases, but getting kids to help is like pulling teeth!

Chasing its hard when the dads arent around isnt it? My youngest is much the same, over thinks things and doesnt get anywhere with it, then gets upset he has screwed it up. He is so emotionaly led, he just wants the best from everyone and himself and when it doesnt happen he is disapointed and upset. We cant do anything but let them work it out, I realised that trying to help him to make a decision 'now' and stick to it just makes him worse.

book we love fresh peas in this house, havent grown any this year, they are such a faff and garden needs clearing out first and just havent the time. But we buy them by the bagfull each week Smile Havent got tomatoes either, love them fresh off the vine, so much sweeter. WIsh I had a greenhouse. Have had those plastic ones but come winter they are destroyed by the winds round here.

Cake hope the hay fever blues die down shortly, I have been waking up early due to the heat never mind adding in hay fever.

Juan thinking of you today.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 18/06/2017 21:31

Sounds like a success to have came back alive Willow Wink Need to take the small shoe shopping next week!

Just about to head off to bed. A bit cooler now! No respite in sight though and DD's sports day Tuesday.

bookbook · 18/06/2017 21:46

Evening
Gosh it is just too warm for me, even now.
Willow - you need a medal going shopping today, but at least you are all done, fingers crossed. Fresh peas tend to get eaten well ahead of any mealtime - nothing else quite like them . And yy to just going and picking tomatoes just before you need them. It may be worth trying those tumbling tomatoes in a hanging basket perhaps - there are outdoor varieties ( even up there I suspect! )
Cake - I think Tuesday is a bit fresher here - temp dropping down to about 20º they say.... Good luck on the shoe shopping - DGS hates it !

Willow2017 · 18/06/2017 22:55

Book shhhh dont tempt me... I had tomatoes, peppers and mini cucumbers plants all along the patio doors last year! You should have seen the palavar I went to to make sure they didnt dry out over our hols! Dont think that would work with a hanging basket?

Discovered today that ds2 forgot to tell me that one of his trainers were knackered at the toes! He hasnt had them 5 minutes! Not getting more as he has the same for gym so can wear them once school finished in 1.5 weeks.

Still hot and clammy here, 17 deg according to the phone!

bookbook · 18/06/2017 23:06

well, I am ready to go and see if I can sleep in this heat. Not hopeful
Willow - ah , as someone who has an allotment and grown up kids, we go on holiday in Jan/Feb ! nobody to water for you?
wishing everyone some rest,
Thoughts and Prayers all x

bookbook · 19/06/2017 08:35

Morning all
Hope everyone is okay
Juan - thinking of you this Monday (hugs)
It is going to be another hot one, so will go and water everything at the allotment first thing. Back for housework while its (hopefully) still cool enough. Picking up DGS this afternoon, making tea for all at DDs tonight
Willow - toes always go first don't they - they do like to drag them along the floor for some reason..
Just waiting to hear about a new baby in the family - nephews partner was induced yesterday , so hoping for her sake it won't be too long. I need to get a card, but they decided not to find out the sex...so have to wait for news - the baby jacket all ready to go at least!
Have as good a day as possible
Thoughts and Prayers x

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 19/06/2017 11:25

Hi ladies

We're in the sweat zone with 29 for today and 27/28 for tomorrow! I'm hoping they'll be sensible and not keep them out all morning. And they are doing track on Wednesday so another long hot day.

We're surviving so far but last night was a rubbish night's sleep due to heat, hayfever and my anxiety was bad (not sure why - OK now). We are off on holiday on 21/7 so just clinging on that there will be a change of scenery soon not hoping for a break, doesn't work with small people

He's OK with shoe shopping now, thankfully. Just very shy and very fussy so not easy, but at least better than when they start screaming as soon as the foot measure thing comes out.

Hope baby news arrives swiftly.

Thinking of you as always Juan and Squirrel

Willow2017 · 19/06/2017 15:15

book
Unfortunately neighbours won't be here either when we go so can't rely on them this year. Lovely news about the baby hope he/she is here soon. I didn't know what I was having either wanted a surprise 😀 ex knew 2nd time but never let it slip once😀

Another lovely day here despite the clouds gathering at times it's stayed fair. Been shopping and for a couple more t shirts for kids (can't rely on getting a free washer when you want one on holiday!) Told you I was the over organised type.😀

Juan hope today is kind to you.
selena hope hospice is everything it should be for you both.

Chasingsquirrels · 19/06/2017 16:48

New babies are always welcome news ☺.
Mine were both surprises (sex-wise), I hadn't wanted to know and had late scans with both of them at 36 weeks and nearly asked both times. Both were born bang on 37 weeks so I didn't have to wait long after that.

My car thermometer was reading 35c on the way home an hour ago Shock. I'd had my cardigan on for a while at work as I'd gone in dressed for the weather and the air con was up high. Home and thrown open all the windows.

Hope the night-anxiety doesn't become a regular feature cake x

book hope dgs isn't too fractious in the heat.

You sound holiday sorted Willow!

Thinking of you Juan and Selena & her DH.

SelenaValentina · 19/06/2017 20:06

Well, DH was moved late this afternoon to the nursing home. Left him an hour ago as he was totally exhausted - and grumbling about the dreadful suspension in ambulances and how it could be improved. Staff seem kind and on the ball with pain meds, etc.

It was actually quite a chilly breeze as I was sitting outside just now, after a rather hot day. Is that summer over with, here in the North West?

Been thinking of you Juan, and everyone else too. I love reading about your days, thank you for sharing.

bookbook · 19/06/2017 21:06

Evening all.
Just starting to feel fresher/more bearable here now.
Just nicely got home, and went and watered everything. I suddenly have a glut of cucumbers .....
DGS was fine, but very hot and sweaty and was glad to have a bit of quiet time with a long drink when we got home - its so tiring being hot I think.
No news about baby yet though , poor girl in this heat.
Cake I'm hoping it does freshen at least for you tomorrow - and have a good nights sleep tonight ready for it.
willow - its always the way - neighbours are so inconsiderate! Never a bad idea for extra stuff. I tend to go for overkill on packing...
Chasing - 35º Shock - its not on really is it. And when you get out of the car , it horrible.
Selena - good to hear you have your DH settled in, and hope you can relax a bit and know he is in good hands . Its certainly become fresher here in the last couple of hours ( Yorkshire) , but opened every window upstairs as soon as we got back, to get rid of that heavy hot airless feel.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 19/06/2017 21:21

Poor DH Selena, how are you doing in all this? Have you got some support around you?

Track has been cancelled for Wednesday which is good.

No surprises here either time. I need to plan ahead Grin

Thinking of everyone.

Willow2017 · 19/06/2017 22:03

Selena I agree ambulances were originally just converted Ford transit vans with crap suspension. They haven't really improved over the years. My mum used to hate them when she needed one. Didn't take much to cause her pain.

Well ds2 not happy I had done packing without him so he helped with odds and ends this pm. Swim goggles, the water spray- fans, toiletries etc and with weighing the cases.😉 (Book still plenty room for panic packing 😀 )

Bit cooler tonight with cool breeze.

DramaAlpaca · 19/06/2017 23:11

Haven't been on for a few days so will need to read the thread to catch up properly.

I'm really struggling in the heat at the moment, I wasn't designed for this weather.

Hope your DH settles in comfortably Selena.

Much love to all x

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 20/06/2017 06:08

Morning all

Well that was a restless night. DD struggled to get to sleep (heat and nervous about sports day) and DS went off quickly but woke in an hour and was restless from there on till the temperature dropped at about 10.

Tomorrow is meant to be a proper scorcher and then cooler after that. Lucky really, as I have 2doz cupcakes to bake and decorate for Friday.

I'm going for cool sophistication today with an olive green maxi dress and flip flops but I know I'll be a sweaty mess by 9 Hmm

Hope that everyone else (and the gardens) are surviving. Pleased to report we have courgettes growing!

Love to all, as always x

bookbook · 20/06/2017 10:36

Morning all
very quick dip in - DGS here today . He's tired after school and heat yesterday, so spent a long time this morning reading books with a heavy head on the shoulder. Don't mind though - he doesn't normally allow a lot of sit and cuddle time these days.
Going out this afternoon to our local gardens - it has a good playground, a big lake to feed fish and a nice cafe for a bun and a drink.
Much cooler and cloudier today thank goodness.
still no baby news .....
Cake - courgettes! - when you have too many, come and ask for a good chocolate courgette brownie recipe :) - Hope you cope with the heat today, good that they have cancelled the day - hot with thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow now.
I hear you Drama - the heat just wipes me out.
Have a good day everyone
Thoughts and Prayers x

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 20/06/2017 12:14

Hi book Hope that the baby shows up. Just thinking about how hot maternity wards are makes me feel sorry for the poor mum!

Only one courgette plants. I do fancy doing a chocolate and beetroot cake one day. Feel free to post the recipe. As long as it's cakey, I'm willing to try most things Grin

Enjoy the sweaty cuddles. They grow up so soon don't they?

DD did very well in her sports day - came 2nd. Mercifully it was really cloudy till after they had finished. Now it's scorching.

What do yo all eat in the heat? We're having (cold) honey roast ham, crusty bread and lots of salad tonight. Just going to go turn the oven on now to cook it....and hide out of the kitchen!

Willow2017 · 20/06/2017 12:52

HI ladies

Well I bit the bullet and am blitzing kids room! What an eye opener Shock Found dirty washing, old wrappers, cups, picked up 7 million bits of lego and various other small things but I think I am winning!.

Really need to get them both new beds, DS1's bed has a broken strutt and you can only get into one drawer because of the bedside drawers. Now he is 'mansize' need more storage for his clothes Smile I have sorted out the drawers and taken all the small stuff away. (Obviously too much effort to give them to me and tell me they are too small) Am off to tackle their wardrobes Shock and then hopefully sort out the piles on their beds into piles for them to sort out themselves. (If it looks easy more chance of them doing it properly Grin ) Still havent found all partners to the odd socks I have in a pile in my room yet, where the hell do they go?

Cooler here too today, bit breezy too.
