New thread :). Thought I'd start this one like I ended the last one - Bertie crashed out after a busy day's mischief making.

Morning all
sorry was awol yesterday - we were playing board games and cards last night.
Juan - I was relieved to hear that even though still very sad, you seem to have pulled yourself up a bit . And the CFR sounds a winner - you already were pulled towards it anyway. I suspect it may take a time to train or get info, so you may find by that time, know what is happening with your job. Seems odd thta is is near June and you haven't a starting date.
Cake - :) courgettes - plant and water is just what you do - preferably not in a pot, as they do need watering a lot, and its just better in the ground. I don't know if you do garden? ( sorry if you have said) , but if you have any plant food ( growmore, /blood,fish and bone or something like that) than use some of that in the planting hole. If you don't, if you have something like a plant food for hanging baskets and pots ( phostrogen/miracle grow etc) than use that when watering, as per the instructions. They are greedy, and grow quickly.
Drama - there are lots who don't like a fuss, no doubt .
magi - hope you enjoyed the tennis -we had F1 on yesterday , then everyone came ......!
Its a damp morning here, everyone is rustling around upstairs, so a big breakfast for all, then a day tidying and feet up a bit . Well, maybe ....
Have a lovely day all - will be back later
Thoughts and Prayers xx

magimedi · 29/05/2017 09:38

You do sound a lot better, Juan. I think the CFR would be a lovely thing to do but there is no rush!

Managed tennis & F1 yesterday (what a boring race) & have more tennis today. But first I am about to do my most hated chore - take all the shelves etc out the fridge & give it a good clean. DH always helps but I loathe the job but will feel Halo afterwards.

Thunder in the night & still very humid & sticky here.

Chasingsquirrels · 29/05/2017 10:30

I did the fridge clean on Thursday. Not sure what possessed me really. Very satisfying though.

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2017 10:43

I've realised that my post late last night about my DM not calling an ambulance could be a tad insensitive & triggering on here. I'd like to apologise for posting it, the last thing I'd ever want to do is upset anyone. Sorry Flowers

bookbook · 29/05/2017 11:17

I apologise for all my poor typing in last post.
Drama it didn't upset me --I think we nearly all have been there tbh - my DM was very poorly late on in her life, fiercely independent ,and didn't want to put people out x
Everyone gone, peace and quiet , so you have spurred me on, fridge clean it is :)

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2017 12:48

Thanks book.

I did the Great Fridge Clean Out on Saturday after a big shop. Didn't do
a thorough clean, but everything got a wipe down. The dogs absolutely adore fridge clear out day, they hover around hoping that scraps of out of date food will get tossed to them. We have very little food waste because the dogs are such useful dustbins.

Chasingsquirrels · 29/05/2017 13:20

I didn't think that at all drama.
Lol at the dogs, I remember when my kids were small before our dog died and a friend came round for tea with her small kids and I just gave the leftovers to the dog and she was all po-faced about it. She got a dog a couple of years later, and then apologised!
Now we just throw scraps out of the window to the chicken, although I don't give them left over chicken!

I'm having a lazy day? Then ds1 is having a friend and ds2 is having 2 friends over tonight. Pizza (ds2 has made the bases and they can all throw toppings on), nachos, ice cream and a film.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 29/05/2017 13:33

Well, the boys graciously let me sleep for an hour before getting me up so we got ready and got DS plimsolls for PE (with just 6 weeks to go before the long holidays!!!) and DH got some clothes too. Spent some time in the toy shop looking and playing too.

I've done the downstairs and the washing but upstairs still to sort. Just sticking pizza in the oven for tea. Quite satisfying to do a job that you don't normally get time for like the fridge.

Thanks book they're in a raised bed and we've had so much rain that we've hardly had to water! I know very little about gardening in general but trying to embrace my middle age at 36 and learn a bit more.

bookbook · 29/05/2017 14:46

Hang on Drama - you did the big fridge clean after the big shop? - I always do it the other way round- less faff.
I will confess - I've been to the allotment, but I will do the fridge once I've had a cup of coffee !
Sounds good Chasing - we watched a film last night on Netflix - rarely do , but on DDs recommendation we watched Kingsman , almost a spoof of James Bond, but less realistic violence. The other night we watched The Blind Side - it was a lovely film, I can highly recommend .
Cake - if he is anything like my DGS , he will have outgrown the plimsolls by then :)

daisychain01 · 29/05/2017 15:00

Hello everyone, oh dear.... I have fridge guilt. I haven't cleaned it for ages and I'm hooked on cacti and orchids today (rain belting down on and off with thick mist over the field). Bought a small bag of compost/grit at the garden centre and the kitchen counter now looks like a bomb hit it. I've been meaning to repot for a year and I need to do it while the mood takes me and beforeI relapse into a long MNetter session. Erm ooops actually that's what I'm doing now Grin

Film lined up for later on Girl On The Train. Hope it's as good as they say it is! And Margaret Atwood's The HandMaid's tale ordered from Amazon as I've heard is an amazing read. Someone on another thread mistakenly described it as a Rom Com .. I don't think so. MA is someone I would name if asked the question "Who would you choose to sit next to at a dinner party?"

Love to everyone for this Whitsun weekend. x

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2017 15:58

Oh I know, book, it's the wrong way round, but it's the only way to motivate myself to do the fridge - when I've got lots of lovely fresh stuff ready to go in it. And it wasn't the most thorough of fridge cleans, just a quick spit & polish Grin

magimedi · 29/05/2017 22:16

Mine was a full on clean Halo. Every bit of food out of the fridge & every part removed & washed & dried and the inside also cleaned! Halo

It only happens about 3 times a year & I am so amused that so many of you felt inspired to follow!!!

What a shite & boring job though! Followed up by lots of Tennis!

bookbook · 29/05/2017 22:19

Evening
Juan - hope you have coped with today . ((hugs))
I'll let you off Drama :) I did mine, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have anything needing throwing away - thats a win for me .
Been busy with the crotchet tonight , nice listening to the rain while being inside.
Love to all
Thoughts and Prayers x

Chasingsquirrels · 29/05/2017 22:19

3 times a year???
Gosh mine is about once every 3 years.
Grin

Boys have had pizza, nachos, ice cream, a film, and are now "getting ready for bed". I'm about to go up and tell them to go to sleep and then go to bed myself.

bookbook · 29/05/2017 22:21

x post there ! - I did a full one too - its a lovely feeling.
I feel the need for an oven clean now though , and its raining tomorrow .... ( bit like decorating - once you've done one room , the rest looks a bit shabby)

JuanPotatoTwo · 29/05/2017 23:16

Evening aunties. The fridge clean thing is strange - I did mine about three weeks ago. I got very emotional doing it too as there were condiments and cheeses that Mark had bought - I did think at the time that, hate cleaning the fridge as I do, I didn't ever think it would reduce me to tears!

Drama - no need to say sorry about the ambulance thing - it was me who brought it up in the first place. I watched some tennis today - first time since Mark died that I have. I've been a tennis fan since I was 15 so three months out is nothing much in the grand scale, but I felt like a complete novice and as if I knew nothing! Last night I watched Rag n Bone Man on bbc iplayer. I love his music - Mark and I spoke about him quite a lot during Mark's last weekend - and I think some of the lyrics from Skin might feature in my next tattoo!

Wishing everyone a peaceful night's sleep including myself with any luck

How is the sleep Juan?

JaneJeffer · 29/05/2017 23:40

Glad to see you back Juan. Your comment about the tidal wave reminded me of this poem I came across. Love the tattoos.

Dh has died and the MN lifesavers are helping us to keep our heads above water
JuanPotatoTwo · 30/05/2017 00:09

Sleep is still rubbish Squirrels I so desperately want to get back into a proper routine again. Are you still doing ok sleepwise?

Jane thanks for comment about tattoos. I can't see your poem?

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 30/05/2017 06:24

Morning. I'm hoping you got a few hours kip after posting this.

Full on day today which is probably for the best - keeps me out of trouble. Have this anxious feeling in my chest for no real reason that I can determine (apart from the usual)

Hope all the tennis fans enjoy watching, the sun lovers gets a nice day and the gardeners have snail free plots! Will catch up with you all tonight.

bookbook · 30/05/2017 08:41

Morning all
Juan - I think it can take time to get back into any sort of sleep routine after such a big life change, but plug at it as best you can x
I have only heard 'I'm Only Human' by Rag n Bone Man, which is great -
so may have to go and search him out - wasn't he a care worker before he became famous?
It is looking really black here, but hoping it stays dry. DD1 and 2 brought back all their straggly spring pots back on Sunday, so they need emptying and redoing for summer, and all the bulbs planting out.
It feels a bit like a holiday - no DGS as its half term, so a walk around the market will not entail standing at the toy stall for half an hour ....:)
Have a good day all
Thoughts and Prayers x

JaneJeffer · 30/05/2017 09:38

Healing comes in waves
and maybe today
the wave hits the rocks
and that’s okay,
that’s okay, darling
you are still healing
you are still healing.

JaneJeffer · 30/05/2017 09:44

I don't know what happened the poem the first time.

Hope all are OK today. Feels a lot chillier here now.

I like Rag n Bone man too. I saw him singing on some programme and then forgot his name so had to ask the DC's what the name of that big bloke with the beard who has a song out! They knew who I meant Grin

Chasingsquirrels · 30/05/2017 13:38

My sleep isn't a problem Juan, waking earlier with the light mornings, but then doze off again.

Enjoy your 'day off" book.

Ds2 & friends up around 7.30, played on the Wii, then trampoline. I got up and made us all pancakes then they went around 10. Ds2 going to the birthday party of one of them this afternoon.
Ds1 & friend surfaced around 10, his friend's mum collected him and Ds1 has now gone there for the day.

I've done some weeding then abandoned it as it started throwing it down, the sun is out again now but I haven't gone back to it. I might do some more when Ds2 is at the party if it stays dry.

Sometimes it feels like my time with John was so long ago, and sometimes it feels like he should just be at work and coming home soon.
I miss him coming home, holding me, kissing me, loving me.

That poem is so true about the waves.
I want my calm sea back, where I was safe and loved.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 30/05/2017 18:29

hello, survived the day. Just bed time to go, but I'm catching up Hinterland on the Ipad so don't mind too much sitting with the small while he drops off.

Had a cuddle with a 6mo girl today so my clocking is ticking so badly!

Sunflower has been eaten by snails/slugs... any natural remedies that actually work? We have copper tape around the raised bed, but clearly not that effective.

Hugs Squirrel
