Online Dating ... and this is a thread for while we are waiting! Dating thread 109

I know these threads have come in handy for many dipping their toes for the first time into OLD. So here we are again ... another 1000 posts down:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Read Why Men Love Bitches (aka WMLB), and take from it what you will. 12. Don't serve up moose burgers on the first date (although this is still in debate right now) 13. Matthew Hussey also very useful. And very easy on the eye even if you don't find him any good. 14. IF THEY SAY THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP, THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP

I'm being an over invested twat this week. Mr Shy has been really not very texty. He says very busy at work but I started to feel like I might be annoying. I've texted him first the past 3 days. Meant to be seeing him Friday night so I think I will just text less and see how things go.
God I hate texting. I'm trying not to be all needy and weird I just wanted to know he was ok, I don't really have heavy expectations and don't like the idea he would feel obliged to talk to me. How much is too much? Don't want to play games either

lastnicknamefree · 02/11/2016 21:18

myuser just mirror his enthusiasm and back off a tad, let him do some running!

I have a coffee date tomorrow with a guy I can only call funny but ugly
His nickname speaks for itself really, he's hilarious and we have great banter back and forth, I love getting his messages but looking at his photos I'm pretty sure I don't fancy him. I'm going to take my own advice and go for coffee, I'd love to be proven wrong but I'm not expecting any sparks my end! So annoying when that happens but worth a shot yes?

BaklavaBalaclava · 02/11/2016 21:43

That's funny last. I had mr funny, Mr kind and Mr rich but possibly married as my 3 irons

Went on date with mr funny, and he's the first first date I've been on where there was a spark, despite him looking dreadful in his photos....

Humour goes a long way, I think

Crazycat1980 · 02/11/2016 21:53

I agree about humour. Like we weee sting earlier, initial attraction cannot always be detected from a photo.

Crazycat1980 · 02/11/2016 22:02

I've just randomly agreed to a date tomorrow night with a Tinder iron I will call Mr Gin.
Have a second date with another one next week. Am on a roll...

But to be honest I'm not sure I'm that interested in either... Shock

lastnicknamefree · 02/11/2016 22:05

I agree and I've found this out the hard way by having several dares with guys who looked really hot in their profile photos and I was convinced I would fancy them there was no spark or attraction whatsoever in real life!

lastnicknamefree · 02/11/2016 22:08

Well done on the dates crazycat

And obviously I meant dates not dares although it can be hard to tell sometimes Grin

pringlecat · 02/11/2016 22:21

Ha, well, Mr Young is definitely a dare from you lot! I'm totally not feeling it, but he can try to win me over. If nothing else, it's another nice chat with a boy.

Crazycat1980 · 02/11/2016 22:29

That's the spirit Pringle
And I'm thinking the more dates we go on the less of a big deal they will seem and then we will be less stressed

Mrsfluff · 03/11/2016 01:13

Morning! Welsh - how fab!!

Mr 31 has today messaged that he's only got his sights on one woman and that there is nobody else...................it's so sweet, but makes me feel so guilty. Also, I really like him, he makes me feel fabulous, but it's early days and I'm not quite ready to let go of Mr Gosport, even if we have only met once. Was it only Tues evening that I said I wasn't going to overthink things Hmm

lastnicknamefree · 03/11/2016 07:25

mrsfluff your Mr 31 has it bad Wink I agree with keeping both him and Mr Gosport for now, chances are one will turn out to be not right so don't put all your eggs in one basket yet.

Any plans to see Mr G again yet? Or more dates booked in with Mr 31?
You need to see both again and see how you feel

welsh that's lovely, it's always so nice to hear positive stuff!

Well I have my coffee date with funny but ugly this evening. I'm half excited as I love meeting new people and after 7 months of OLD I actually enjoy the buzz of first dates now. He's super funny and we click humour and sarcasm wise. BUT I'm also partly dreading it because I'm pretty sure I won't feel attracted to him, them I'll have to send THAT message and lose my favourite iron probably

pringlecat · 03/11/2016 11:22

Is Mr Funny but Ugly actually ugly or just not your type? Waiting for your update, I think I would feel the same mix of excitement and dread.

Just had a message from Mr Wildcard. Will see if I can get him chatting. He sounds more intriguing than Mr Young.

I want another iron!

lastnicknamefree · 03/11/2016 11:37

Pringle no he's not ugly at all. Just not good looking and definitely not hot but that's very shallow of me! In 2 of his photos he looks "ok" but the third not good. I always trust the worst one! I did right swipe so his face must not have been totally offensive right? I'd be bloody thrilled if I fancy him because I love his sense of humour and personality so far

pringlecat · 03/11/2016 15:23

lastnicknamefree You can bet we're being judged for our looks so I figure we're allowed to be a little shallow ourselves!

I like Mr Wildcard's sense of humour so far. Feeling hopeful.

Mrsfluff · 03/11/2016 16:26

Lastnick, I am seeing Mr 31 tonight, for drinks.........and a grope, hopefully Blush He does seem entirely genuine, which makes him totally lush and me feel totally bad!! I do really like him tjough, even if he is a bit random.

No further plans with Mr Gosport, which is frustrating. I think I will ask him if he's thinking about us meeting up again.

I hope your date with funny goes well - I think being able to laugh together is important and that makes someone much more attractive to me.

Pringle - good luck with Mr Wildcard Smile

lastnicknamefree · 03/11/2016 16:33

Ooh so two of us out on dates later! Loo updates mandatory remember? Wink

loobyloo1234 · 03/11/2016 16:51

Ooooh oooh don't forget me, i'm on a date tonight too. But with the Toyboy ... 6th date Grin I don't know how this has happened

OP posts:
AintThatSomething · 03/11/2016 16:55

Good luck with the dates tonight Grin

Mrsfluff · 03/11/2016 17:33

Ooh, 3 of us!! I'll try to update..........the snogging tends to affect my memory Wink

bikerlou · 03/11/2016 17:38

i just don't know if I can face online dating tbh, it sounds really grim. I mean it's too early anyway becasue I'm just getting over my split but how do you possibly know they are not crazies?

BaklavaBalaclava · 03/11/2016 17:50

Just back from my date! So that's 4 of us (well, first date/coffee - that counts, right?)

Was not a disaster. Was a shame I had to leave, but I figure having an umoveable thing at the end of a first date is quite handy in case they are grim...

bikerlou - I find that the advantage of POF is that the crazies identify themselves fairly early on in the process!

In reality - First meetings for me are in safe places, with exit strategies and people who I text to let them know I'm out and safe. It feels OTT, but on the way to a date it feels good knowing there is a back up plan

Pisssssedofff · 03/11/2016 18:05

Can mean only one thing .... Date night or Netflix and chill 😁

Online Dating ... and this is a thread for while we are waiting! Dating thread 109
Mrsfluff · 03/11/2016 21:14

Quick post - it's going very well. He's still lovely!!

Lilacpink40 · 03/11/2016 21:21

Had a very brief date tonight too. Was with Mr professional my regular texter. Coffee then I had to pick up DCs. I didn't expect much, but he was polite, funny and some chemistry we're seeing each other on Sat.

I'm not comfortable with going on my Fri date and now double-booked Sat. My Sat date has put me off by telling me he drinks lots all the time and inly sends texts to tell me how busy he is. So no loss. My Friday date had some potential. I may see if I can postpone in case things don't work out so well on Sat. Been reading on here about not putting all eggs in one basket.

lastnicknamefree · 03/11/2016 21:53

I'm back from my first date too, it was ok but not exactly fireworks.
He was nice and we chatted easily. I enjoyed his company but not sure i fancied him. I was also put off by him telling me his last girlfriend was 27...he's 44! As am I, I've had 4 kids and my stomach very much reflects this! I can't compete with a 27 year old leggy skinny bird with a flat belly and no stretch marks!!
