We don't half get through these at speed!

The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Read Why Men Love Bitches (aka WMLB), and take from it what you will. 12. Don't serve up moose burgers on the first date (although this is still in debate right now)

My deal breakers are:

Must be employed
Tall
Likes travelling as its been and still is a big part of my life
Pref has child/children as I don't want anymore and has regular contact with them.
Not take themselves too seriously
Makes me laugh

TheDetective · 28/02/2016 17:01

I never send messages. Is that bad?

On match/POF I don't even search. I just see what comes my way.

Anyone else like that? Years ago I'd have sent messages.

Now I'm just like 'whatever'. I do want to date, but not so much that I'm putting my all in to it....?

HandyWoman · 28/02/2016 17:02

Hi all! Glad all was well with Mr2015 and tanya - what a cockwomble horse is!

Just getting ready to go out. Didn't manage to go for a run because worked dragged on and I had a single-parenting fail - dd2 has cycling proficiency tomorrow and I could not locate the adaptor for bicycle pump(!). Now borrowing from fellow single parent neighbour later. Plus mild panic when I suddenly saw at 3:45pm my 1 week subscription to GSM had expired leaving me no way of communicating with Cockapoo - now sorted. Am just about to get changed and go out to meet him... Nervous - eek - really needed that run!!!!!!!!!!!

More later......

MrsRolandRat · 28/02/2016 17:07

Handy- good luck hope it all goes well with cockapoo

And I don't message anyone either. I just too wait for what comes my way. I'm on tinder though so obviously swipe get a match and just wait for them to initiate contact.

DrFoxtrot · 28/02/2016 17:12

Good luck Handy

I probably send the first message about half the time and it's usually quite boring along the lines of 'Hi, I'm xxxx' I tell them a little snippet about myself and ask them something. Occasionally, I will pick up on one of the points in their profile. I'm really keen to know what others say if they send the first message and what works best.

Good luck Handy!

My deal breakers:

Must be min 5'8" (ie taller than me!)
Not definitely want kids
Not be recently separated.
Must be employed
Must be interested in something. I messaged a guy once who did nothing and was interested in nothing...not even TV or music. It was weird, nothing to talk about...
Must, must, must be honest and not a cheater/weirdo/flake. Though this can be very hard to ascertain.
Must have a sense of humour

Ideally have hair, a nice smile and large disposable income. And no mental health issues.

In a perfect world, have all of the above and a beard and tattoos. Grin

DrFoxtrot · 28/02/2016 17:55

My list of deal breakers is quite small but I still think I'm quite fussy!

On tinder anybody who has written that they went to 'the school of hard knocks' or 'the university of life' gets an instant left swipe. Also anyone whose face I can't see or if their photo is a group pic. And anyone whose spelling is terrible.

TheDetective · 28/02/2016 17:59

There was a guy on tinder earlier that I swiped left. His occupation was 'not got one yet'. He was 34.

Hmm Confused

MyGastIsFlabbered · 28/02/2016 18:18

My dealbreakers are:
Beards (ex had a beard so I'm a bit phobic about them)
Bald heads (see above)
Overweight (see above)
No car
School of hard knocks/university of life
Txt spk
Still attached
Wants children
Tory voter

Can't think of anything else right this minute.

I had a lovely booty call with MrCS this afternoon WinkJust trying keep a cool head about it as I do really fancy him and feel he's way out of my league

SteadyHand · 28/02/2016 18:18

Good luck Handy!

Mr WTF has asked to come over this Eve after saying he feels he hasn't seen me in ages (well duh!). He hasn't cancelled yet, but there's still time...

My deal breakers:
Must have children
Must be taller than me

That's it for the time being...

Tinder date has just messaged to say thanks for yesterday, I'm really nice but he didn't feel any chemistry, so good luck. I thought that was a pleasant message. Obviously I wasn't interested any way, but I appreciated the honesty!

God yeah, how could I forget about "school of hard knocks" and Tory voters! Shock And also fish/tiger/car pics.

Is that your second booty call with MrCS Gast? Is he an IDWAR?

ALaughAMinute · 28/02/2016 18:28

My deal breaker list is too long.

Must be professional/businessman
Must be over 5'10"
Must have an slim/athletic build
Most have children over 18
Must be divorced not separated
Must have been in a relationship over 10 years

Is it any wonder then that I can't find anyone I want to talk to? I'm beginning to think I need a reality check!

Good luck Handy!

ALaughAMinute · 28/02/2016 18:30

Oh yeah, and no beards...and definitely no tattoos or body piercings!

MrsRolandRat · 28/02/2016 18:32

I had a date years ago with a bloke and when I asked him "do you like to travel" his response was "yes and I love it, I've been to Benidorm, Tenerife and faliraki" I was like Hmm this isn't gonna work.

Love a beard. Quite like a builder type, a bit rough and ready.

Agreed with the recently single. I went on a date just before Christmas with a guy who told me two hours before the date he and his wife had broken up 2 weeks ago and they were still in the marital home!

Also like someone who's comfortable being single but would like to meet someone. Not into someone who jumps from one relationship to another.

MrsRolandRat · 28/02/2016 18:36

Earrings are a big no no!

I had a date with someone around October. He picked me up from my house. I got into his car and was blinded by the interior light catching his big diamonique earring, bloody awful it was. And he was shorter than me I'm 5ft5.

DrFoxtrot · 28/02/2016 18:43

I don't mind bald or beard.

The man I had 2 dates with but little chemistry spent the 2nd date fielding off texts and calls from his XW as she knew he was on a date (she left him after having an affair!) and said if we were going home together it would be best to go to mine as she may come round!!Shock

To my utter shame we went back to mine, I have work to do on my standards clearly.

Go handy!

Ok so shamelessly listing those deal breakers: must be
Tall -at least 7'9
Educated
Be able to financially support himself. I ain't no sugar mama.
Passionate about something, ideally music
Well traveled
Not very overweight
Be interesting, I am quite unforgiving with random, un-personal, boring messages
Be witty, see above Grin
Be enthusiastic
Speak and write English better than I do
Not recently separated (hello MrTheatre and Popcorn)
Be happy with their lives / be stable
Be AVAILABLE (no polyamorous or whatever PC term for polygamy they use)
Be childless - not exactly a complete deal breaker if they want more kids, but TBH I can barely take care of myself (I am late 20s), I do not think I am step-parent material

And ideally I would also like a beard, tattoos, and a talent for playing the guitar.

Picky, moi? Grin

Actually I just got a message on OKC from someone I am not interested in, but I found that was the best pick up line I got so far: "so.. Are you really picky or are men just stupid?"

In other news, I think I might have my first Tinder date this week! He is a bit in the upper limit of my age range but the chat has been easy so far so I am giving him a chance. Need to think of a name for him!
Also still talking to the other two from Friday night. One of them, MrVegas might be in the process of handing me a red-flag, I will make him spill the beans a bit more and will come back for the usual poll..

DrFoxtrot · 28/02/2016 18:49

Waving it's on here at 16.49 phew!

MrsRolandRat · 28/02/2016 18:50

Waving I laughed out loud at your comment about your exH having a massive beer belly that was repulsive.
