Unwanted advance made by a dad on the school run

I talk to my son's(5 years old) best friend's parents often on the walk to school. Today the father asked if I would like to meet them for coffee after dropping them off. i said yes but when I got to Costa with my baby in the pram there was only him there. I asked where his wife was he said that she was not coming and he had a present for me but I could not tell his wife about it. I was now in catatonic shock as he handed the present to me. I managed to say I am going and just left. I didn't throw the present at him, I realised to my horror when I got home that I had it in my hand.

I do not know what to do now, I wanted my son and theirs to go to each others houses and play together etc and enjoyed talking to both parents on the school walk. The mother will surely think that I did something to prompt this advance if I tell her and I need to clearly get it through to him that he is completely wrong and never to do anything like that again.

Any ideas how best to fix this without losing my son's best friend?

Open it? Then you can judge what your next move is.

What else can you do?

pilates · 24/02/2015 16:10

I would give it back to him unopened the next time you see him on the school run and tell him how uncomfortable he has made you feel. I would be polite but make it clear you are not interested and say you hope this doesn't affect the boys friendship. If he continues to be creepy, I think you will have to distance yourself.

MerdeAlor · 24/02/2015 16:47

Umm, lots of ways that this could have been misconstrued and you will never know unless you open it and tell us

Whatever you decide to do, you should do it fuly cognisant of the facts and without assumption.

Fatstacks · 24/02/2015 16:55

Fucks sake.

I read OP as unwanted advice
Spent the whole thread thinking how is a jumper advice and what's his wife got to do with the price of fish Angry

Ubik1 · 24/02/2015 17:06

Basically everyone wants to know what he bought you.

springalong · 24/02/2015 17:15

I like sylanians post.

So definitely open the present. If not OK (eg gift for baby) then rewrap and return to the wife.

You have done nothing wrong so don't need to be shy or embarrassed about it.

Sleepyhoglet · 24/02/2015 17:20

Oh open open!

bigbuttons · 24/02/2015 17:35

Where is the OP?? Come back!

SaucyJack · 24/02/2015 17:37

At least describe the wrapping paper. We're all on tenterhooks here.

Is it smutty smalls for a mistress embossed gift wrap tied with a ribbon? Or matching football strips for my son and his best friend and I don't want the wife to know how much I've spent thrown in some left over Xmas paper?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 24/02/2015 17:42

Absolutely.... what woman wouldn't drop her drawers for an embossed gift-wrapped woollen garment and a cup of Joe?..... phwoarrrr!!!

Just hand the present back and firmly tell him you are not interested. No need to make a big deal over it.

SaucyJack · 24/02/2015 18:02

I'd blow anyone for some well fitting jeggings to be fair.

usualsuspect333 · 24/02/2015 18:07

I'm not leaving this thread until I know what the present is.

usualsuspect333 · 24/02/2015 18:11

OP, just make up what the present is. We won't know if you are lying. Wink

LondonRocks · 24/02/2015 18:11

Open it. This is ridiculous.

88blueshoes · 24/02/2015 18:18

I wouldn't worry, you seem to have given him a pretty clear signal. I wouldn't tell the wife if I were you. Maybe you can donate the present to a charity shop?

Phoenixfrights · 24/02/2015 18:24

Maybe they are swingers and it's a knitted fruit bowl to toss your keys in. Wife sent husband to suss you out.

Do they have pampas grass in the garden?

fattymcfatfat · 24/02/2015 18:39

Grin saucyjack

sonjadog · 24/02/2015 18:51

Maybe it is a present for the baby?

Sounds like you really overreacted. I find it unlikely that he would have chosen this strategy if he was trying to seduce you.

sunnydayinmay · 24/02/2015 19:40

I want to know what the present is! Then we can decide if he is creepy, or just a bit drippy.

(to me,"unwanted advance" is when your friend's husband corners you outside the restaurant's loos and tells you he "wants to xxxx ypur brains out". He's obviously going for subtle).

GiniCooper · 24/02/2015 19:44

I want to know what the present is too damnit

PulpsNotFiction · 24/02/2015 20:16

Open the present God damn it!

Open carefully, take out knitted crotchless onesie item, snip end of gift paper and re seal.
