I received a whatsapp voice message from dps ex on Boxing Day of them having sex I haven't said anything to him yet as I don't know what to do I feel physically sick.

OP posts:

I have just consulted our in house geek (Greatly Enlightened Educated Kid) and apparently you can download and share voice files. In most countries but not all.

SassyPasty · 28/12/2014 13:59

You can only send about 90 seconds of a pre recorded message via Whatsapp IIRC and you can't break it down into several messages (though this may have changed with any recent updates but I don't think so) I only know this as I sent a recording to a friend to critique my singing Blush

So, a bit of a chat, a shag, another bit of chat in 90 seconds? Sounds like you're better off without him Wink

WannaBe · 28/12/2014 14:00

no, you can send videoes and pictures but not voice files. voice files have to be recorded from within the app and by holding down the microphone button.

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 14:02

That's what mine is like Wannabe you can't have pre-recorded ones.

Anyhowww since we have been chastened by the lovely Olivia... OP what do you plan to do?

Reese123 · 28/12/2014 14:02

OMG - what kind of person would do that to another human being. You need to confront him otherwise it will drive you crazy. And you deserve so much more than to be treated like this.

Big virtual hug to you.

Vivacia · 28/12/2014 14:03

I'm not too familiar with WhatsApp, but am I right in thinking that she'll know you've accessed the message? I wonder what she's thinking.
How long does the recording last?

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 28/12/2014 14:03

Letting someone else record you cheating is pretty dumb, and I can't see how she could do it without him knowing.

My ex managed to video record us having sex (we were together at the time) without me realising. Sad

Reese123 · 28/12/2014 14:03

You can tell if someone has read your message on whatsapp so she would know.

Isetan · 28/12/2014 14:04

If it is him, she's done you a favour and if it isn't him shes also done you a favour because if this act doesn't illicit some serious boundary setting from him, then what will.

RyanAirVeteran · 28/12/2014 14:07

Oh dear God.

WannaBe · 28/12/2014 14:10

Olivia, pointing out an inconsistency is normal.

26Point2Miles · 28/12/2014 14:11

So how long was this file op??

helenenemo · 28/12/2014 14:14

You can send voice files, I've just tested mine to check. Doesn't need to be recorded in-app.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 28/12/2014 14:14

@WannaBe

Olivia, pointing out an inconsistency is normal.

Absolutely.
No probs with that. We deleted troll hunting and a personal attack.
Thanks

Deserttrek · 28/12/2014 14:16

I just found this on their website
? After selecting Send Picture, Send Video or Send Audio you will have the option to either record the media or choose an existing file. You can add a caption to any photos or videos before sending them.

MistletoeAndWine111 · 28/12/2014 14:18

Well what a lovely chap he is Confused

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 14:18

My whatsapp must be different then it has the options bar that says 'take photo or video, chose existing photo, chose existing video, share location, share contact' then at the other side you can click the record audio button.

OP is he with you now?

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 14:20

GoodtoBetter - I can send videos on whatsapp which are several minutes long.

LIZS · 28/12/2014 14:23

Has OP returned?

Deserttrek · 28/12/2014 14:24

I think the way it works might be different with each device, a Blackberry might work quite different to an I-phone for example. I am not that geeky, and I think it may be irrelevant how the message was captured, repackaged, conveyed. It will only need a few seconds - and 90 with some clear voices should be plenty - for OP to get that initial reaction (or otherwise). And the other woman might only have needed 90 seconds to do the damage she intended.

PastPerfect · 28/12/2014 14:24

greys and wannabe you can send audio files over whatsapp.

How you do it depends on whether you have iphone or android - with an iPhone you need to convert your files using izip but it's pretty straightforward and fairly commonplace.

If you're going to point out inconsistencies best check that you're correct first

WannaBe · 28/12/2014 14:25

iPhone version of whatsapp here too.
