This is a thread for women who unexpectedly (or not) find themselves attracted to another woman.

Sue Perkins is a very common crush. But not in our house!

Evening all. Hmm, crushes... I think I'd have to say a connection and intellect are hugely important to me too. I couldn't imagine having any sort of long lasting friendship/relationship with anyone who didn't read. I love books.

I agree with crushing Jodie Foster is stunning. Amazing eyes. I like Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson (? sp?) possibly as they are both very beautiful but also supposed to be clever too. One of the few male celeb crushes I've had is Jonny Depp - recently someone said they wouldn't fancy him as he looks too much like a woman. I just had to smile.

Worldwithwings Hello! I know how you feel as I'm in a similar position - separated, know I like women, no idea how to meet any in my small town. I know one lesbian couple, although only socially, and vaguely keep in touch with the girl I had a thing with in my teens, but definitely don't want to go back there. I have checked out a couple of lesbian websites like Gingerbeer but that is very London focussed and is a bit intimidating. Dating sites are a bit too full on for me at the moment. Ooh, and also agree with both Ellen and Kristen Scott Thomas. She's stunning in The English Patient.

Synchronicity · 15/04/2012 20:33

polly fingers crossed you get your reply soon!

pollyblue · 15/04/2012 20:36

synch thankyou! I'm horribly impatient and hate waiting (and it's not helped by fact I know from experience that WIQ is a bit rubbish at replying to emails.)

Cherriesarelovely · 15/04/2012 20:38

Sorry Likea it was fun chatting but i had to get some sleep and now I have loads of work to do for tomorrow but was great to hear about your wiq. It was weird when I first came out, my parents were ok ish, they are generally lovely anyway. Nearly everyone was fine really. Now that i have been with women for nearly 20 years it is just "me". However coming out is a constant process, if I start a new job or whatever it begins again. i sometimes think it is harder because I am very feminine and people don't see it coming and their shock is sometimes evident. I find that annoying, the assumptions that people make but I guess it is human nature. It really doesn't trouble me that much anymore.

likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:05

thanks Cherries, yes the shock from people every time must be tiresome. You see, I think my wiqould have a big issues with that, she's not into shocking anyone or attracting extra attention to herself (sigh).
polly - haven't you already agreed a date for next weekend (when she emailed you)? also, if she's rubbish at emails why do you never phone each other? maybe you should lead by example!
Kristin S-T is fascinating, really has charm and depth! physically though she'd be too tiny for me. Overall I like Fiona Bruce btw! Mind, all of this is just liking and I could consider getting close, but I don't properly fancy anyone bar my wiq. This is the reason I don't know any actrresses from gay shows that everyone mentions.
I don't really understand though why so many gay girls go for a boyish look especially with hair and clothes - do they think that's what lesbians find attractive or do they want to be like boys?? doesn't really seem logical that women who like women would want them to look like boys. Maybe this is primitive view from the outside, and it's all ironic or smth?

likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:06

*wiq would
issue

onanightlikethis · 15/04/2012 21:10

Short hair but femme is the way to go....

Gay40 · 15/04/2012 21:13

Likea .... I don't understand the boyish look either. But a LOT do.
There's a massive "what is the point of butch women" debate in the LGBT community.

OP posts:
likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:14

how short? see for me Mary's or Fiona Bruce's hair is ideal. A bit longer also fine, Sinead o'connor no, neither ultra feminine long tresses..

likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:15

and i mean Sinead as a mature woman, as at 18 with that hair she looked mesmerising, mainly as so much soul in her eyes but she had a perfect face then.

pollyblue · 15/04/2012 21:17

Likea she gave me the option of Fri or Sat night, and asked me if there was anywhere in particular I'd like to go. I replied with suggestions and I'm waiting to hear what she thinks. Haven't got her phone number! Blush I've never thought to ask for it.....

Digbert so who would be your celebrity crush?

Gay40 · 15/04/2012 21:20

Polly - you didn't get her phone number ?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?

OP posts:
pollyblue · 15/04/2012 21:20

Gay ah no....Blush I really am a bit crap at this aren't I?

MagsAloof · 15/04/2012 21:21

I like both 'looks'. I find very femme women attractive, but I also adore http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.cocknbullkid.com/cms_images/lol-3.jpg&imgrefurl=www.cocknbullkid.com/blog/love-lol-from-this-is-england&h=281&w=500&sz=76&tbnid=Al7_PgEz-TgEaM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=160&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dlol%2Bthis%2Bis%2Bengland%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=lol+this+is+england&docid=iO9Zc5sPcd86TM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=cy2LT7bEAcWi0QWqzZzICQ&sqi=2&ved=0CEIQ9QEwBg&dur=346 this woman and although I dont go for KD Lag myself, I totally get why other women do.

My lesbian BF and her wife arent butch, both have long hair, but they only wear trousers/jeans and never wear make up. Both beautiful women, but not in to all that preening malarkey

pollyblue · 15/04/2012 21:22

..but i can't email her now and say 'can I have your phone number please?' can I? I'll have to wait for her to reply to me first.

likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:23

G40 yes i read the debate a while ago but got bored as no one came to a conclusion ha. I don't even mean butch, some young girls you see can't look butch as they are young and delicate but they still go for very short hair when it's obvious that for many longer hair would look so much better. Older women - even harder to look good unless she's thin and intellectual by nature, can be good. But these girls sem to just copy boys.
Do you have longish hair G? do you tie it up ever? you said you had hair ha but no details!
My wiq never seen me in a skirt, i just don't wear then in the day in autumn/winter as can't stand the cold, and i feel much more dynamic in my jeans (narrow, never baggy, and I know they suit me), but i wonder if she's thinking anything based on that.

pollyblue · 15/04/2012 21:24

....I think she might be more of a texter than an emailer thinking about it - her phone goes off quite regularly when I'm working with her so I'd guess it is her prefered means of communication. I just never asked.

Worldwithwings · 15/04/2012 21:24

Hi Synchronicity, I like your name BTW. I feel that dating sites are a bit too full on too and that at this stage I need a more gentle way to feel my way into it (so to speak Blush). Where I live is pretty liberal so I think there is a large lesbian community but it's perhaps quite cliquey. I'm hoping that I can just meet more people and perhaps be introduced into wider cultures than school gates/work which is where I meet most people at the moment.

The idea of being with a woman feels exciting and for the first time a real possibility. It is one of the brilliant things about being separated that I can be whomever I please. The bonus of already having DCs is that I can find a partner without worrying about that.

pollyblue · 15/04/2012 21:25

Mags I saw her on TV at an awards show a little while ago, I agree she's stunning.

likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:27

oops cross post with Mags re trousers! ooh, maybe wiq will see me as a possible bi/gay after all (though I do wear makeup, not heavy, but always).

NimpyWindowmash · 15/04/2012 21:28

My crushes are usually people older and wiser and in some sort of position of responsibility. Doctors, teachers etc....
...and also Dannii Minogue.

likeatonneofbricks · 15/04/2012 21:29

polly, shocked you haven't got her number - thought you were just too shy to phone. and after all the agony last time, you didn't think 'I'm not going throu that again, oh no!' and demanded the number!

pollyblue · 15/04/2012 21:31

likea Grin but the trouble is she could easily ignore a text too!
