So am I right in thinking that he pays all the bills, and your money is for your basic luxery items like new clothes (I mean things you need, but not desperatly) and treats for the children?

Does he ever pay for things for the children?

And sorry to be rude, but how much money are we talking about here?

MrsSpoon · 07/01/2006 22:54

Tricky situation. Certainly deliberately leaving you without access to money could be considered abusive but I suppose that would depend on whether there is money to spare.

Is he doing this to be vindictive or are things tight and the purse strings are needing pulled in? Which if it is the latter it doesn't sound like he is being very nice about it.

colditz · 07/01/2006 22:57

Are you being left without money? And what has he capped you at? As he pays for "boring food/household stuff", how has he capped your household spending?

Am I reading that right? £1200 per month is your upper limit? Or did you typo and mean £120?

fairydust · 07/01/2006 22:59

so you have £1200 a month to spend on toys/clothes a month

PrincessPeaHead · 07/01/2006 23:00

carla, grow up.

if you can't live on 1200 for frivolities then you have a small problem.

and this is from someone who has more money than most.

colditz · 07/01/2006 23:00

What is 'bc' BTW? I have never come across that abbreviation.

hunkermunker · 07/01/2006 23:02

I'm assuming BC is Barclaycard.

£1200 a month?! FGS!

fireflyfairy2 · 07/01/2006 23:02

Jeez..id never spend £1200 a month... but then I'm not a spender at all..

Food isn't really boring is it?

Why would you charge your DH rent? did you buy the house before he moved in? sorry if i'm being dim

MrsSpoon · 07/01/2006 23:02

Sounds like this goes deeper than money. Is he doing this to be controlling? or Does he have money worries and feels the need to budget?

munz · 07/01/2006 23:02

i'm assumin u mean barclay card?? - he pays ll the utliity bills, incl food and u have biasically 1200 for u and the girls to spend as u wish - no food/bills etc?? then yes it's v do able I think.

depends thou what sort of other stuff do u pay for? what's ur income compared to his?

You won't get much sympathy on here for "only" having £1200 a month to spend on food, clothes and toiletries, Carla.

munz · 07/01/2006 23:04

lol, init just floss!

Flossam · 07/01/2006 23:04

300 a month for food is our aim. That still leaves 700 a month for clothes etc. What planet are you on????

hunkermunker · 07/01/2006 23:04

And why would you expect him to pay your tax bill?

colditz · 07/01/2006 23:05

Why can you not get food and toiletries for £1,200 per month? It is more than me and dp earn between us, and we have money over at the end of the month (when he doesn't effin gamble it, which is a different thread entirely)

What, precisely, do you have to pay for, Carla?

nutcracker · 07/01/2006 23:05

Blimey if i had half that to spend on stuff like that a month i'd be very happy.

In fact a quarter of it would do.

MrsSpoon · 07/01/2006 23:06

£1,200 a month seems very reasonable (and generous) to feed/clothe etc a family but if this is significantly less than you are used to and the finances are being used as a weapon I could understand there being a problem.

emily05 · 07/01/2006 23:06

I think that is enough. we spend £250 - £300 a month on food and extras (includes clothes). I am hoping that as we pay ourt debt off that will change. I would love £1200 - but then it is all relative I am just used to being skint! lol

Aloha · 07/01/2006 23:06

sorry, you have your own income, have nothing to pay out except fun stuff and you think your husband should pay more than £1,200 a month? Really?

hunkermunker · 07/01/2006 23:06

And you say in your OP that your husband pays for boring food and household stuff - not sure I get what your £1200 has to cover, Carla?
