Can't believe I'm typing this. DH and hotel booking

Dh away overnight on business. He was sorting his paperwork this morning and I saw the hotel confirmation. It was:- One Room: Two Adults...... I asked why it said that and he just said "oh must just be the bog-standard booking if you have a double room" or similar words.

Needless to say something rankled and I went to the Hotel website to make a booking and, guess what, you need to click down to confirm the number of guests.... It starts with 1.

Have spent the morning feeling sick, shaky and tearful. This can't be real. It just can't. Sad I am a stupid, smug cow. What my DH be unfaithful?! Don't be ridiculous, etc., etc.

Don't really know what I expect anyone to say just need to get it out there so to speak. It could be an innocent mistake couldn't it? Sad

was it booked through his work or did he book it himself?

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2011 12:45

Yes, easily
If he books rooms for both of you he might have done it without thinking and then not realsied when the form came through. Sort of thing I'd do. However, if I did my DH wouldn't be so woried so there's obviusly something else on your mind - you have reason to worry?

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2011 12:45

is it tonight btw?

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 22/03/2011 12:45

Please please don't go by this alone - it could be a perfectly innocent mistake on behalf of your dh or the hotel.

Even if you do have to scroll down, his finger could have easily slipped, I do it all the time.

And the price is probably the same for 2 adults as for one.

This alone is no evidence of anything - do you have other suspicions.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2011 12:45

sorry, i mean if he usually books rooms for you as a couple he might have selected '2' without even thinking

TobyLerone · 22/03/2011 12:46

Yes, it could easily be a mistake. Often when you book a double room online the default is 2 adults.

DELHI · 22/03/2011 12:47

Of course it could be an innocent mistake. try not to get too upset before you know the facts, as everything could be fine.
You could try phoning the hotel and asking in a discreet way how many occupants they're expecting?? Or phone him and ask him? He could have dismissed it this morning because it genuinely is nothing to worry about.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2011 12:47

"I am a stupid, smug cow. What my DH be unfaithful?! Don't be ridiculous, etc., etc."
Even if you are wrong, trusting the man who married you and promised to be faithful would not make you stupid or smug.

miniwedge · 22/03/2011 12:47

Who booked it? My hotels were always booked by someone at work but in my name, they often just booked for two as you can be charged a single occupancy supplement.

Have a huge hug, that butterflies in tummy feeling is not fun. x

lubeybooby · 22/03/2011 12:47

I suppose it could be but I don't know how you find out for sure. Even if you sat in the hotel watching the check in desk theorectically if there was another person they could check in seperately or use another entrance and arrive when your DH is already there.

I suppose all you can do is confront your DH with your discovery that booking one adult into a doube room is fine and judge his reaction/leave it to trust.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/03/2011 12:48

Many hotels don't charge less for two people in a room than one.

Do you have other reasons to be concerned about him and fidelity?

squeakytoy · 22/03/2011 12:49

I book hotels regularly, and quite often make a cock-up on the booking. I have booked it as one adult, when it was two, and two when it was one. Because most hotel bookings are done on "room price" and not occupancy, it really is a very easy error to make, especially if you are faffing about between different ones while you decide.

talleyrand · 22/03/2011 12:50

i think if he was having in affair he would be very careful to make sure it said ONE person.

if he was just travelling on business, he probably wouldn't even have noticed what the booking said.

BrokenTree · 22/03/2011 12:56

Thank you all so much.

We have had trust issues in the past - just niggles that made me think it was me being overly suspicious. BUT there is just something this time that I can't ignore and I don't know why.

Yes it is for tonight and he booked it himself on his credit card even though it is for work. That was odd as well. He said he will claim it back on expenses as this is the way this firm likes to do it. He changed jobs about 6 months ago.

He is due to call at lunchtime and I just don't know how to approach this. The way I am at the moment will just be all tears and snotty gabbling. I just don't know. Sad

Thank you all again.

Thank you for the hug Miniwedge that is much appreciated. I just wish I could tell someone in RL how I am feeling. But that would just be making it real.

Again, it is quite common practice to reclaim hotel bookings through wages. We did that almost every time we worked away at my last few companies.

zikes · 22/03/2011 13:03

It could be a mistake on his part when he was booking it, yes, but if there have been other things recently that made you think the worst right away, I think I'd be looking a bit further. Such as phone and credit-card bills, email and stuff. Maybe.

HMTheQueen · 22/03/2011 13:05

Some hotels give a single bed if there is a booking for one adult in one room.... maybe he just wants to ensure there is a double so he can spread out?

Kiwinyc · 22/03/2011 13:10

Just to add, its normal for my (large corporate) company to have us pay for our hotel rooms and then claim the cost back on expenses. So thats not unusual by any means.

Chandon · 22/03/2011 13:12

I would call the reception of the hotel and ask the speak to Mr OR MRS (insert DH surname), say you need to speak to this couple. If it's just your DH, the reception will probably tell you there is only a Mr.

If she says she'll put you through, and it's your DH just have a "normal" chat with him.

IYSWIM

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2011 13:15

So in summary there are lot of reasons:

deliberate:

  • avoid single person supplement
  • get a double bed

accidental:

  • slipped finger
  • unthinking

If I was in your situation I would think nothing ofit. Because of the past, you are worried, and you need to do something to address that.
Agree with Chandon, except call up and ask to speak to Mrs X in room whatever. Either they'll say there's only a Mr or you have your answer.

Hi Broken Tree

Let me reassure you that there is a very good chance this is a genuine error. For starters, the booking might not have been made through the hotel's website but through a broker instead, or over the phone. Two persons in a double room may have been the default setting or the person booking it may have put down 2 persons in a double to avoid being given a single room if the hotel was overbooked.

You wouldn't believe the number of booking errors made, I booked my brother and his wife into a hotel last month but gave them both the title Mr. I work in the hotel trade so I feel a bit of a tit.

Talk to him but reassure yourself this afternoon that it's probably quite innocent.

gettingout · 22/03/2011 13:37

Honestly I would watch, wait and see if there is any other indication something is wrong. It could be an innocent mistake, but two mistakes are not innocent.

wonkeydonkies · 22/03/2011 13:40

i think you are over-reacting

lots of hotel rooms are one room for two people, means it sleeps two people, not that two people have used it
