Well, this is our tenth thread so we are throwing a little party!

Everyone is invited! No booze of course, soft drinks and mocktails only!

I'm Mouse, hello. Smile

There are all kinds of drinkers on board the bus. Come and join the journey, whatever stage you are at, drinking, cutting down, wanting to stop or sober already.

Everyone is welcome to post here. Come say hi.

The journey so far is below.

MIFLAW - I'm still smoking - you really don't want to meet me after 3 days off the fags :)

anyway enough soul searching for today shame I couldn't go for a swim today but hey ho such is live

MIFLAW · 11/10/2010 18:28

"your thoughts go very simple and boring [...] That's what's appealing I guess."

Notice how, like a good researcher, I have marked the ellipsis ...

Read that phrase. Does that sound sane to you?

MIFLAW · 11/10/2010 18:29

Diabolik

So why the void? Why aren't the cigarettes filling it?

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 18:39

MIFLAW - I was wondering the same re diabolik so I'll wait for the answer.

Rightpickle · 11/10/2010 18:44

Congrats on the job, Noteven. Give yourself a big hug.

Me, I'm so not drinking tonight, and so looking forward to feeling great tomorrow morning. This sobriety thing can get addictive - if you'll pardon the pun. Smile

JaneS · 11/10/2010 19:25

MIF, I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to do.

Why the aggressive tone? Why the judgmental attitude?

diabolik · 11/10/2010 19:25

Do you really have to ask about the difference ? Nicotine is a very different drug from Alcohol ( and others ) - if I quit I feel a void as if some thing was taken away and its really unnerving how addictive it is -
But it is just not the same as getting plastered or coked up is it now ...

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 19:38

diabolik - as an ex smoker I agree. Totally.

When I did coke and got wasted, that was my decision. When I smoked, it was seperate in my mind.

I did all three on a night out but the frink and drugs were 'bad' things, the smoking wasn't!

So I get what you mean. Smile

ChristianaTheSeventh · 11/10/2010 20:00

Hi guys,

It seems like there's a mega serious conversation going on above, I don't want to get involved, just wanted to say DD2 and I ended back up in hospital yesterday, that's why I couldn't post.

But she's better now and we're home. DH back which is so fantastic, to share the responsibility! It's been a hard few days.

Anyway, love to you all and I'll try and read through the posts I've missed but hi to y'all.

xxx

JaneS · 11/10/2010 20:02

Sorry your DD wasn't well. Glad she's better now! Smile

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 20:09

Christi - you and DD were in my thoughts. Bless her, I'm glad she is ok. And you are too, you did great. xx

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 20:11

Clearly I meant drink not 'frink'!! Stupid sober fingers!! Grin

ChristianaTheSeventh · 11/10/2010 20:19

frink sounds pretty apt though don't you think

'fucking drink' = 'frink'!

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 20:32

Grin! Christi - glad to see you have your sense of humour even though you have had such a shite few days. xx

JaneS · 11/10/2010 20:34

I assumed frink was slang I didn't get.

Blush
ChristianaTheSeventh · 11/10/2010 21:03

I will not be frinking today Smile

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 21:19

Grin niether will I!!!

ChristianaTheSeventh · 11/10/2010 21:23

grrr DH back to the hospital

I like your new halloween name mouse

Will have to think of one for me

dementedma · 11/10/2010 21:24

have had two white wine spritzers but realised this is one more than yesterday so am now having lime and soda.
Still - a total of 3 spritzers in 3 evenings is a vast improvement on the previous 3 bottles in 3 nights!! There is still wine in the fridge and I'm drinking a soft drink!!!
The lack of sleep is annoying though - no drink means my mind is still buzzing and i find it hard to switch off.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 11/10/2010 21:28

Sorry I meant to say Grrr DH back to the hospital with DD2

demented well done you, well done. That's great you can leave the wine in the fridge.

The sleep will come, much better now you're not drinking, honestly it will. You are probably detoxing and thinking A LOT, in a while you will sleep like the dead

JaneS · 11/10/2010 21:33

demented, I know exactly what you mean! It is annoying. Trying to think what helps (I mean, I guess sleeping tablets but that's a bit extreme).

Hot bath? Sometimes works for me.

Hope you sleep well when it comes.

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 21:46

Ma - the very fact that you have had 'less than normal' is a HUGE step in the right direction so WELL DONE!!!

Christi - how about ChristianaTheBoozeSlayer? I'm so sorry that DD is back at A&E. If there is anything that I can do to help, please just ask.

Anything ok? xx

VampireMouseface · 11/10/2010 21:50

Re sleeping tablets. Take them If you need them, take them. But FGS, DO NOT mix the two.
If you are going to drink, drink. If you're not, take sleepers.
I found that they helped through the early days of detoxing. The jitters, shakes, etc.

If it works for you and means that you DO NOT DRINK, then do it.

Smile
JaneS · 11/10/2010 21:50

Right. Now I want a bottle of wine so I am here instead.

My mum and dad (there's a history) rang me yesterday when I wasn't in. I called them back earlier today and got 'you know it's dinner time, we'll call back'. They then called back while I was cooked (and I'd told them I would be cooking). I just called them and got 'we're watching the news. You know what time it is. Why didn't you eat at the same time as us so we could have spoken to you?'

GRRRRRRRRRRR they drive me mad! And my usual reaction is a few glasses of white in quick succession but I am not going out to the shop.

IloveBafanaBafana · 11/10/2010 21:57

Hey All

Pretty serious conversations going on here this evening!!

The boxing analogy is brilliant, and I have copied and pasted it into a document that I can refer to when i am feeling weak.

I am loving the fact that I really think that I am beginning to get it.
Actually I don't think that I could bear to have a hangover right now, or have the pass out and then wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to get back to sleep thing.

This is DAY 9.

Am frantically getting ready for our holiday, and whilst I keep having little niggles about how I am going to handle a holiday without drinking, I am totally ready to have an alcohol free holiday!!

christi hope that DD is feeling better really soon, and if I can do anything please let me know.

mouseface loving the halloween name.

to everyone else - hang in there it gets better on a daily basis, it gets easier on a daily basis.

Today I will not be frinking Grin
