Hello.

I'm Mouse and I've been on the bus for 2 months now and not fallen off it as yet. It's much more comfortable than The Wagon! Grin

Anyway, this is thread number nine!

Hi all

Funfilled day at work followed by major argument with DP, so has not been the greatest day in the world.
Having said that I am now day 5, and I am buggered if a fight with him is going to make me drink and blow it!!
He's gone to work so at least there is no atmosphere in the house, so I am sitting with DS and watching Monsters Inc with a cuppa.
Thursday is DD's Guides night, and I have decided to ask to do permanent pickups, which really sorts out one night a week, coz it's several miles away and is on until 9.30.

Glad everyone is doing so well, lucil you and I are on the same day, feels good!
Depeche
hope tonight goes better for you.

Quick question - What do you drink instead, I was designated driver at a wedding the other weekend, and I drank Diet Coke - really boring and fresh orange and lemonade, alright but still not fab, by the end of the night I was drinking water and was really fed up of it. Please give me nice alternatives that I can stick in a wine /cocktail glass and cheer myself up a little.

Oh and in case you think I was really good at being designated driver, came home and sank a bottle of wine very very quickly (stupid emoticon).

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 19:55

Ilovebafanabafana

Hi, I find non alcoholic drinks quite tricky. I am quite keen on 'Feel Good' white grape and peach
And fizzy water I love, but you can drink too much of it.

It IS a bit dull. I guess a virgin mary at the beginning is a 'filling' cocktail you can't drink too fast. And elderflower 'champagne' very pleasant - by that I mean cordial and fizzy water.

I also tend to start drinking coffee (with a brownie or something) or tea quite early. Fresh mint tea is gorgeous after dinner. And y favourite herb teas are 'wild fennel' and 'detox' by Dr Stuart and Twinings 'Digestif'

Also have you tried just NOT drinking anything and eating chocolate instead Grin

IloveBafanaBafana · 07/10/2010 20:18

Thanks Christiana,

I shall look for these at the shops tomorrow, the thing is I really don't go for chocolate at all!! If wine was not so full of sugar, I would say that I didn't have a sweet tooth at all!! I always go for cheese instead of dessert, and would rather have crisps than chocolate.

Tonight is actually going suprisingly well, I am really really sleepy though, roll on Guide collection followed swiftly by bed, and looking forward to sleeping all night.

How is your evening going?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 20:32

DH has gone away for a few days so evening is quiet, just read stories to DD1 and DD2 isn't settling brilliantly (horrid big tooth coming through and a cold). Very pleased I'm not drinking as I am sure that DD2 might be up a few times in the night. NOT pleasant on a few glasses of wine as you all know.

I would say I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I have been having cravings now when I am not drinking, it must be the lack of sugar from wine. But you could do cheese too, then you'll need something like the Feel Good white grape and peach to drink with!

By the way this is one of my favourite pudding/ cheese recipes - here - but just looking, it's got marsala in it, but only 3tbs and it's cooked down with honey. So i don't know where we stand on that!

Good being designated driver.

My DH's 40th birthday on Monday. But he is away all the time till then with two mates so I am trying not to project but trying not think about how he will probably want champagne.

Does anyone have any fab cheap birthday present ideas?! He LOVES coffee, paragliding, drinking, kitesurfing, gadgets etc...

IloveBafanaBafana · 07/10/2010 20:40

How much is cheap, I had a 4 wheel drive experience last xmas was ace, I think that there are ones all over the country, just looked at the website. £42 for an hour, loads of fun.
Don't project - just today, deal with tomorrow then, although I should practice what I preach going off on holiday next Friday, and am really panicing about how I will cope, seeing lots of really old friends from my late teens, an it has always ben a boozy affair whenever we have met up.But not drinking today. Choosing not to drink tomorrow, dealing with next week when I get there.

BB

IloveBafanaBafana · 07/10/2010 20:42

Shall save the recipe for a next time I have people over, suppose that will be the next big challenge? People over for dinner, never mind, just thinking aloud now.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 20:54

Good idea except we used to have a 4 by 4 and drive it all over hills deserts and rivers in our wild days... But maybe a racing day

I know what you mean about holidays too. But let's just take it one day at a time!

There was a really useful post about two or three threads back from a lovely MNetter who doesn't have a drinking problem but just wanted to post her support. One thing she said which struck a chord was something along the lines of: People who don't have a drink problem don't think about drinking all the time, don't think about why people are drinking or not drinking, don't consider it a big deal full stop. So your holiday, none of your friends will be thinking now, oh, I wonder if BafanaBafana will be drinking lots on holiday. They aren't thinking about how much they will be drinking. Or how it might affect you.

Also remember they are your FRIENDS they want to see YOU, they really shouldn't mind if you're not drinking.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 21:34

Hello... Hello... Is there anybody out there?

hippychicky · 07/10/2010 22:16

Hi christi just managed to kick DD off the computer - not sure how long she can survive without being plugged in!

IloveBafanaBafana · 07/10/2010 22:17

Hey Christiana,
Am off to bed, hope you have a good night, chat tomorrow, Day 6 in the BafanaBafana house of no alcohol. Woop woop, almost a week.

The other things that you could look at for DH birthday is Clay pigeon shooting or maybe quad biking. I didn't really get on with clay pigeon, but he may enjoy it.
Quad biking is really cool though.

Sleep tight

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 22:17

Well, well, here I am, back on here, with my cup of Wild Fennel tea and noone to talk to! Off to bed. Night all you invisible people!

hippychicky · 07/10/2010 22:21

Night all

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 22:25

Hello you're here!

Bafana that's a great achievement. Day 6. Well done.

Quad biking is a great idea. WIll look into prices.

Hey hippy! How's it going tonight?

hippychicky · 07/10/2010 22:34

Hi there still here!
Things are generally good - snowed under at work, but wondering how on earth I managed for the last few years with daily hangovers and not evening to speak of past about 8pm
How about you?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 22:41

Well, i'm only on day 2 (for about the 5th time) but I am feeling the same, I get so much more done in the evenings! Everything seems tidier... And I am relieved that the night should be bearable even if DD2 wakes up a lot.

It is astonishing how clear your head can feel! I feel much less 'trapped' than I did a few days ago.

Sitting here on my own this evening, I am also reminded of basically how irresponsible it is to drink a lot with children around. DD1 (nearly 5yo) is definitely picking up on it, and I feel they are BOTH better behaved when I am sober... But to my shame I think it's just ME that's better behaved...

ChristianaTheSeventh · 07/10/2010 22:44

Well, I AM off to bed now. See y'all in the morning.

Venus hope you've managed to steer clear of Delhi Belly - those poor swimmers!

hippychicky · 07/10/2010 22:48

Me too - catch you tomorrow - hope your DD has an Ok night.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 08/10/2010 07:35

Boy I'm glad I didn't drink, had a horrid night, DD up all the time. Mouse I really don't know how you do it you are a saint.

Weird side effect of not drinking. Why so much peeing?!

Welcome Jareth, glad to see you over here. Find a seat whilst we wait for everyone else. Smile

Morning all.

Second week mostly sober.

Fear is decreasing, but still more of a struggle than it should be.

But still, that's the longest I've been sober for a good decade or so!

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 09:26

Morning everyone, Day 5 for me today:)
