Hello Smile

I'm Mouse. I've been sober for over a month now, thanks to the support of posters on this and previous threads.

No matter where you are up to with your sobriety, you'll find someone here who has been in your shoes!

Come and meet the other Brave Babes........

And here are the other threads for those who want to read them.

Hello everyone.

Well I made day one and it wasnt too traumatic.

I need the straight talking on here . I am a grown woman who has consistently made the decision to continue drinking flying in the face of logic and what I know is good for me. Reading this thread is bringing that message home loud and clear to my previously self deluding mind.

I too will take the one day at a time approach, something I have never done before as I always had elaborate plans for controlling drinking so ultimatley I can continue. I still want to believe that I will ,one day, be a responsible drinker Hmm

However today I will not drink alcohol

Hi all. I have lurked for a while so feel I know everyone already. Well I am knackered, and just about to have a snooze in the hope I will get some work done later. But , I did not succumb to a glass of wine last night despite the half bottle of White left in the fridge yelling at me!

I do know sleep deprivation won't kill me but am already dreading tonight. However, I will not drink alcohol today. I really want to see what happens if I don't drink for a while.

You lot are so inspiring, without this thread I am not sure I would even be giving this a go.

Thank you.

munkymaz · 06/09/2010 12:52

getting Congrats on getting through Day 1 and not resorting to the last minute dash to the garage for cheapo plonk Smile

Luci I was supposed to be jetting off to Alicante on Thurs this week for a 5-day bender mini-break with the girls as part of my up & coming 40th celebrations. I sold my ticket 2 weeks ago and will not be going as I know, although lovely to spend the time with my mates, it will end up being a mess and I will ultimately feel sheet (physically and mentally). It is not where I need to be right now!

gettingeasier · 06/09/2010 12:53

starting I dont think I would be giving it a go either. Just a thought tip away the wine - I know I couldnt leave it.

SAF I have a date on friday . First since Christmas when exh left me. Its going round and round in my mind what I will do or rather not do.

Must just stick to think about today only rule

munkymaz · 06/09/2010 12:59

SAF - good luck. It's good that you are aware of your 'normal' behaviour. For example, you'd normally go to the pub at some point during your visit to town.

Today, you won't.

munky - cancelling that trip is a HUGE step! Very brave too.

starting - why not set yourself a winding down routine before bed?

So, instead of getting zozzled to sleep, why not have a gorgeous, foamy bubble bath, get your pjs on, find a good book and have a hot chocolate? Snuggle up somewhere?

You need to replace the sugar from the wine for a while. The cravings for wine are also cravings for the sugar in the alcohol.

Wow munky that is quite a thing to do. Whenever i contemplated drinking I would alwys look ahead and say - not till after x event. And of course I could always find something. Well done you for taking such decisive action. You are right, you would have felt crap. What kind of things do you like to do to make yourself feel really GOOD?

starting and getting and SAF just keep right on doing what you are doing now, taking it a little bit at a time, recognising potential weak times and planning how to manage them. I am meeting friend of mine for dinner this evening. She's not much of a drinker at all (health issues) and the highlight of of evening will be a coffee (decaff for me, or I really will have sleep problems) in a wonderful Italian bar. I just love the aroma of the coffee in there - and the italian waiters are pretty cute too Grin

venusandmars · 06/09/2010 13:23

Wasindie don't start all that rhyming stuff again or I migth start coming over all poetical...

....hmmm perhaps a thinking / drinking rap

RedMoomin · 06/09/2010 13:23

mouse - today i am mostly wearing purple suede kurt gieger shoe-boots with a 5 in heel! Grin

everyone else sounds pretty upbeat!, i have to say, the sharing of the 'shit' stories are very brave and very relevant - this stuff has the ability to kill us, humiliate us, control us, if we let it!

well, it has just lost its power to hurt because

WE ARE IN CHARGE TODAY, AND WE ARE NOT DRINKING IT!

love

L xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RedMoomin · 06/09/2010 13:27

JWN - my feet are pained just thinking about those heels Grin

munkymaz · 06/09/2010 13:28

venus - that has always been my problem, I will wait until after X event to stop, be it camping at the weekend, someone's birthday in xxx months, Christmas etc, etc, etc and I have been doing it for the last couple of years.

I love to read & go walking. Walking generally gets ditched 'cos I can't be arsed! I am a book horder and I have a pile to re-read as i can't really remember them from the first time round!

RedMoomin · 06/09/2010 13:29

Hi All

Haven't managed to read all posts since my last one, back to school chaos!

I have managed for four nights now with one g&t. Not ideal I know, but better than a bottle of wine which is usual. Feeling so much better and not missing the wine nearly as much as I though I would.

Am really, really thirsty all the time though. Also shattered but sleeping like a log. IS that usual?
