If you poke about back there it'll run the other way, have the magazine ready to splat Smile

Deep breath, you can do it, you're a dumpling!

Great news about Norm Smile

teaandcakeplease · 03/09/2010 22:09

Patience is far nicer than me Blush

My thought is kill the fecker!

startingovernow · 03/09/2010 22:14

Ok, I swear I can't relax or concentrate on my pending date with the rustling noise. Patience I'm sorry but he is not incy wincy, he is a huge f**r, I know you're a nature lover & I'm prob cruel but he has got to die! I'm liking Tea's idea & going to find something now to poke about in there. I don't think hoover will work as he's really big but I have it out & will keep it running so if I don't manage to wack him I'll try hoover & put it outdoors till tomorrow. Ok off to take action, thanks for moral support, hand holding etc.

Starting, I would half shut your eyes, and then attempt to put a bucket over it upside down. Then leave it for a bit and recover. Then, side a piece of cardboard underneath and pick up cardboard and bucket, carry both down garden - at this point neither of you can see each other. Then thrown both into the air and go inside. Return tomorrow and pick up bucket and cardboard.

And...nice to have date Grin. I assume no tattoo?

And bring DC's to Glastonbury. Under 12's are free I think. We will bring tents. They will enjoy it Smile

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 03/09/2010 22:16

Happy hopes that Starting reads spider recommendation

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 03/09/2010 22:19

And.. I don't know if this helps but years ago I used to adopt this approach with cockroaches in bath when I lived abroad.

Approach cockroach with contact lenses out (makes you feel better if you can't see it).
Squish powder Vim on it. Leave while making tea and going to loo. Return and turn on taps to wash away.

Ok so it's not in a bath. But! I did find not being able to see it helped. I did this every day for many months

teaandcakeplease · 03/09/2010 22:22

I catch slower ones or stationary ones in a glass and use cardboard slid under. Fast ones I have no mercy for Shock

Very impressed at handling of cockroaches for many months Happy

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 03/09/2010 22:23

I think the cardboard is key Tea

Don't be impressed Tea, I had to do it to survive.

teaandcakeplease · 03/09/2010 22:26

I'd have flown home.

Smile
startingovernow · 03/09/2010 22:30

Tea you are a gem, am giving you a virtual kiss of gratitude! Tried your suggestion. Moved couch so I could access from side & used handle of mop, had a few wobbles when it ran towards me but remained brave & used handle to frighten it backwards & eventually out the front & finally got him on third attempt at wacking him............his remains are now residing in my outdoor bin Smile. Crisis over tg. Dd came down for event & watched from standing on coffee table Grin

OP posts:
teaandcakeplease · 03/09/2010 22:33

Was she proud of you for bravery?

Good job done! Each time you fight your fear with them, the next time won't be so bad. I'm not as bad as I was with them a few years ago. Still do not like them though, despite the fact they're a necessary part of nature. I like the garden ones and the pretty webs they make, but they stay put generally Wink The hairy house ones are yuckety yuck yuck! LOL

startingovernow · 03/09/2010 22:35

Happy I bow down in the face of your bravery but being realistic there is no way I would manage the whole bucket/cardboard senario.......Hopes fellow dumplings will now not hate Starting for her cruelty to nature but tbh I'll be using Tea's trick for future occassions.

OP posts:
startingovernow · 03/09/2010 22:38

Tea, not sure about dd but I feel really proud of myself & you're so right, after doing it once I don't think I'd be so bothered next time Smile. Hoovering spiders could well be a thing of the past in the Starting residence Smile

ROFL Happy re TATTOO Grin

teaandcakeplease · 03/09/2010 22:46

You may get to the stage of glass and cardboard, give it time. I'm only just starting to do it for the easier, less mobile ones now.

What's happening with LC, Armbow et al lately? Been so worried about nephew I've not been retaining much at all on thread Shock

I need to go to bed. So tired. It's too easy to sit at the PC all night, apart from a quick spit and a polish (mums saying) around flat I've sat plonked behind this computer all night Shock

startingovernow · 03/09/2010 22:52

Oh Glastonbury sound like it could be a plan, am assuming with so many bodies that all spiders/crawlies will have vacated! Rolf am I ever going to live down the whole mammy tattoo fiasco Grin. Actually the thought of it never fails to bring a smile to my face so it was actually worth it Grin. There's not too many can tell the tale of having sex while Mammy looked on Grin......

I have stood in kitchen with laptop Tea but did manage to do the dishes ,now moved to front room with a cup of tea ,will progress to Fly Lady tidying up 2morrow ,Startin you had to do it ...no worries mate x
Happy ROFL at contact lens technique !!!

teaandcakeplease · 03/09/2010 22:59

I have a guest here at 10am, so know what I'll be doing first thing Smile It's been good to just relax though apart from running the dishwasher and brief tidy up only.

Now if I had a lap top I'd be terrible I reckon, it'd follow me from room to room, all day everyday. LOL

startingovernow · 03/09/2010 22:59

Happy your story of the cockroaches reminds me of an interesting tale for my fellow dumplings (as if I'm not entertaining ye enough with tales of Mammy & spiders etc Hmm. Howsever, when I myself resided in foreign parts I can home to have a nice bath one day. Opened window as I was accustomed to doing & while I lay blissfully in my bath my eye at one point caught a movement at other end of bathroom (near door). To my complete & utter horror there was a HUGE snake after coming into bathroom & was moving towards me. Leapt out of bath in horror & tg made door just before snake reached it. Turned out it was venemous (spelling?). Neighbour had to come in & kill it...........

startingovernow · 03/09/2010 23:22

startingovernow · 04/09/2010 00:10

startingovernow · 04/09/2010 00:12
