Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think cowhide-covered walls are a great idea for a cafe with vegan and vegetarian customers, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from one of the better scripted conversations of recent weeks, when Fallon said ”Harrison, this is like talking to Lassie! Just TELL ME”. So true of so many conversations on TA where you just want to shake them and yell 'Just TELL US, and quickly, so you don't get interrupted before you can say the important bit', but of course they rarely do and days pass before the conversation resumes. @TheBell suggested putting it in the title, so thanks for that.

@OverArmour had a great if more obscure idea, paying tribute to a Peter Greenaway film: The Policeman, The Drunk, The Vet and his Lover. That will do very well as a starting point for the new thread. Will Alistair leave? Will Denise tell John she's leaving him? Will Paul learn to be less noisy? Do any of us care?

I do care a little about Harrison and Fallon. I want Harrison to get a grip and realise he needs a paying job more than the captaincy of the cricket team. I don't care at all about Harry but I think he's been brought in purely as a plot device so with any luck we can all forget about him very soon.

Over to you!

Yes.

But what this has to do with the person for whom he is canvassing, Lynda Snell, remains a mystery to me.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 27/03/2024 15:39

Thanks @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , I thought he was.

FizzingAda · 27/03/2024 16:35

I'm waiting for NuRobert to call her 'Lindybottoms'.

BeatriceBatchelor · 28/03/2024 05:54

So is the Snell vote going to be split, allowing Barry to be Chair?

Or are the Snells going to co-Chair?

I think New Robert is growing on me. And isn't Kenton being lovely?

Grimchmas · 28/03/2024 06:27

The whole POINT of Robert is to love Lyndie even when the rest of Ambridge is finding her overbearing, and she is loving right back at him, in her way - I don't get why they've scripted there to be such low level tension and lack of affection between Lynda and New Robert! perhaps they need to get to know each other.

Bruisername · 28/03/2024 06:40

Agreed - he has expressed a bit of frustration with her to others which I thought was out of character

RegimentalSturgeon · 28/03/2024 10:17

And isn't Kenton being lovely?

If you had made a decision relating to your business and one of your staff was giving you grief about it and your husband swanned in and tried to undermine you in front of said gobby employee, I’m sure you’d find him entirely lovely and loveable. Not. Angry

(I think last night’s scriptie had forgotten Emmur works at The Bull)

I think Kenton is trying to stop Jolene from spiralling out of control.

Plus they can't afford to lose 2 members of staff.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 11:15

They can. Harrison could be hired. He'll be looking for a job soon.

BeckyAMumsnet · 28/03/2024 12:07

I just can't get on with the new Robert, despite their best attempts to bed him in... RIP Graham Blockey.Anyway! As this board's most dedicated bunch, we just wanted to let you know that we've tweaked the topic title to include podcasts. Nothing else has changed.

Thanks, Becky. Good to know we still have some TA listeners at MNHQ. OliviaMN used to be an occasional poster here, a good few years ago now. Kept us on the straight and narrow.

There's a few of us @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g though we can't match Olivia's dedication. My relief at a break from Mia's sanctimony has been overshadowed by annoyance at new Robert and the ill-considered tree surgery business venture. FWIW I'm team Jolene. George has not got over his problem with older women, clearly. Emmur has some nerve on her and I reckon Brad should cut him loose.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 12:31

I'm team Jolene too. George is an odious little scote (to use someone else's description of him).

@BeckyAMumsnet , Not keen on the renaming of Radio addicts but Radio/podcast addicts would be less jarring.

Abra1t · 28/03/2024 12:34

We had tree surgeons next door and they were like acrobats. The guy who wasn't actually climbing up the trees had a pretty rigorous job, too, hauling some large branches for hours at a time and chopping them up for the chipper. How fit is Emmur? I know she doesn't have a desk job and is on her feet a lot, but I imagine you'd need a lot of strength and stamina to work in the business. And she doesn't usually work outdoors in bad weather.

BeckyAMumsnet · 28/03/2024 12:37

@LikeTalkingToLassie that neatly sums him up. My skin crawls when he's on. Totally see what you mean and sorry you're not keen. We changed the description because many threads are about podcasts and so wanted to include those MNers. We've changed it now to lowercase though.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 12:40

@BeckyAMumsnet , thank you. Much appreciated.
I'm not a huge fan of podcasts but am a The Archers addict. Smile I lurk in Pedants' Corner too.

@Abra1t , I imagine Emmur as being shortish and quite slight. She might be strong from kneading dough and carrying trays, but would they be the right muscles.

BeckyAMumsnet · 28/03/2024 12:42

@Abra1t yes! Really want Ed n Emmur to succeed and hope they're not being set up to fail yet again but surely you'd give it a go first - yanno go work for a tree surgeon for a while to see if you can do it and won't cut an arm off, get some contacts etc? Their whole biz is inspired by a tree falling on her car ffs.

Apologies for the missing question mark.

I strongly suspect that the Mianed Tree Trimming venture will not be a success.

We have been listeners for too long.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/03/2024 14:00

Team Jolene here too. I wouldn't tolerate George or Emma speaking to me like that.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/03/2024 17:06

What about Crissifur though? He's going to be internet famous as the Hot Farrier, with a huge following and lots of women sliding into his DMs.
