Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think cowhide-covered walls are a great idea for a cafe with vegan and vegetarian customers, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from one of the better scripted conversations of recent weeks, when Fallon said ”Harrison, this is like talking to Lassie! Just TELL ME”. So true of so many conversations on TA where you just want to shake them and yell 'Just TELL US, and quickly, so you don't get interrupted before you can say the important bit', but of course they rarely do and days pass before the conversation resumes. @TheBell suggested putting it in the title, so thanks for that.

@OverArmour had a great if more obscure idea, paying tribute to a Peter Greenaway film: The Policeman, The Drunk, The Vet and his Lover. That will do very well as a starting point for the new thread. Will Alistair leave? Will Denise tell John she's leaving him? Will Paul learn to be less noisy? Do any of us care?

I do care a little about Harrison and Fallon. I want Harrison to get a grip and realise he needs a paying job more than the captaincy of the cricket team. I don't care at all about Harry but I think he's been brought in purely as a plot device so with any luck we can all forget about him very soon.

Over to you!

I had to suppress the urge to yell "Drink the bloody whiskey ... Harry" at the radio.

RegimentalSturgeon · 08/04/2024 02:26

I found tonight’s episode distressing. Perfectly good booze going down the plug hole. SMH.
Also, it had Alicccce saying ‘bottle’, which is not as bad as when she says ‘hospital’, and neither is as bad as Pip saying anything ‘cattle’, but it’s still nasty.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/04/2024 02:52

How old is Miranda meant to be? Surprised she’s riding the cross country course.

And do late night garages sell alcohol?

Alwaysdieting · 08/04/2024 06:01

Yes it seems that the SW think people in their late 70s-80s act like 40s and 50 year olds. I had a friend in her early 70s who owned and rode horses but not over the gallops, she could also lift bales of hay but it was taking its toll.there comes a time when you have to slow down even if your young at heart so Brian having a good old affair with all the trimmings is a bit much. Even my favorite Leonard im sure is not getting it on with Davids mum(cant remember her name). Im sure he is about the same age as Brian. But perhaps Im wrong, perhaps there are loads of 80 year olds doing the naughty stuff, you just dont hear about it or even want to hear about it.

Maybe influenced by headlines like this? (DM warning) www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11969897/amp/Frisky-seniors-Experts-warn-STI-epidemic-RETIREMENT-HOMES.html

😂

Storylines about alcoholics and their "illness" are so tedious. Where's the sympathy for the sugar addicts killing themselves with UPFs?

Kate Madikane, is that you?

Sorry?

I am distressed by what appears to be another developing abusive relationship storyline.

Also Harry is by no means charming and charismatic enough to feel Alice in. They have only been dating 5 minutes and he's been vile several times. He gives me the creeps.

Bruisername · 08/04/2024 08:54

He sounded a bit merry when she spoke to him later in the day

agree about the people in their 70/80s seeming more like 50s

Sorry?

I was picking up on your reference to sugar and UPFs. It struck me as a Kate-ish sentence.

I like More farmer less drama - to which I would add more ploughing less rowing and there's mileage in silage. I've decided that what ultimately keeps me listening these days (apart from this thread) is that I can now listen to the podcast during an idle moment at any time I like - I'm not sure I'd bother if I had to tune in on the dot of 7pm (or 8pm in my case).

LikeTalkingToLassie · 08/04/2024 09:33

Alice says bottle quite normally IMO.

I like your suggestions, @LillianGish .

Bruisername · 08/04/2024 09:38

When Alice talks to Harry it’s like she’s recording an infomercial

i suppose we can see how she hasn’t come as far as she thinks or she wouldn’t have done any of this without speaking to her sponsor. Would the wise path have been to take him to a meeting and let them take it from there?

Edited

Took me ages to realise you meant arguing and not the river sport!

never thought I would agree but anything that pleads for more farming would be great!!

There’s been a lot of post coital scenes lately and I’d rather not hear it tbh.

I think you might be surprised what is really going on.
Plenty of affairs, definitely alcoholics and quite a bit of county lines and dogging in my area.

Not to mention thefts of machinery by gangs in the small hours.

And a theft, everyone knows who did it (the goods are in his yard) but no-one reports to the police because he’s a nasty character, and they have to live with him.

i’m not addicted to TA, but I am to this thread. So I have to listen to TA to support my addiction.

Jill and Peggy are a bit improbable, but the 60s/70s seem like my friends of the same age

I'm very happy to NOT have dogging featured on TA, the pre/post sex scenes are bad enough as it is! Mind you, Lynda's outrage while litter picking condoms and wipes would be amusing...

More sowing, more mowing, more cows and sows.
More agri, less aggro.
More sheds, fewer beds.

I like Brian and Kate together. I liked his 'Theoretically.'

And all while being the least judgemental woman in the world.

That made me laugh.

Bruisername · 08/04/2024 14:25

Kate and Brian are good value. I can’t take too much Kate at one time but a good sprinkling is always welcome

wonder what Miranda’s aura is like

i I thought Miranda’s interaction with Alice was a little odd given she’s dating his dad. It seemed quite unnatural. And how long has she been riding there? Why would Alice want feedback on the course from her Along with instructions on how to improve it?
