Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think cowhide-covered walls are a great idea for a cafe with vegan and vegetarian customers, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from one of the better scripted conversations of recent weeks, when Fallon said ”Harrison, this is like talking to Lassie! Just TELL ME”. So true of so many conversations on TA where you just want to shake them and yell 'Just TELL US, and quickly, so you don't get interrupted before you can say the important bit', but of course they rarely do and days pass before the conversation resumes. @TheBell suggested putting it in the title, so thanks for that.

@OverArmour had a great if more obscure idea, paying tribute to a Peter Greenaway film: The Policeman, The Drunk, The Vet and his Lover. That will do very well as a starting point for the new thread. Will Alistair leave? Will Denise tell John she's leaving him? Will Paul learn to be less noisy? Do any of us care?

I do care a little about Harrison and Fallon. I want Harrison to get a grip and realise he needs a paying job more than the captaincy of the cricket team. I don't care at all about Harry but I think he's been brought in purely as a plot device so with any luck we can all forget about him very soon.

Over to you!

I see Lynda as wearing smart trousers, probably tweed. Silk shirts. Cashmere jumpers.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 26/03/2024 20:52

@LibertyLover , you're welcome; she just isn't a Linda.
She used to write a column under the pseudonym Dylan Nells, an anagram of her name.

Roysnewshirt · 26/03/2024 20:54

Gosh that was a long 13 minutes. It was how I remember TA used to sound when I was growing up. Raised voices, bad acting, a script that only bored adults could find of interest and an episode that feels like it will never end.

In the squatting and bowling scene this evening what were those mewing cries regularly on the soundtrack? Some kind of hawk over the cricket green?

Possibly the hawks in the mews at Lower Loxley, which was where I assumed they were since Freddie was getting home from work and Elizabeth had been talking with Robert indoors.

She did actually say tonight that she was wearing a skirt; that was why she refused to do the hamstring kicks.

echt · 26/03/2024 21:24

It was nice to hear Freddie. I'd forgotten what lovely voice he has.

OverArmour · 26/03/2024 22:59

It’s peacocks!

It’s bollocks, more like.

The head of a lizard, the body of a leopard and the generative organs of a disco chicken? V heraldic, Lower Loxley.

Apologies. Tonight was so bad I find myself a little unhinged. And no, I haven’t been drinking, more’s the pity.

Alwaysdieting · 27/03/2024 05:37

How did Lily meet Call me Ross? I wasnt listerning to TA then. I only remember he used to look after an art gallery was that at LL?
I think Jolene was not in a good place or has been for a while and she would have not gone off on George (though he asks for it) and poor young Brad.
Also I dont know about a stetson perhaps a tricorn hat would be more Jolene.
I think she will have to keep a weathered eye out at the egg hiding comp, incase Marky turns up.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/03/2024 07:06

Russ was Lily's A level art teacher at college.

RegimentalSturgeon · 27/03/2024 07:32

Lily’s A-levels were English, German and biology (there are probably dafter combinations, just not many) so he wasn’t ever her teacher as such, just the deputy principal and an interested party to whom to parade her convenient Gwen John.
(I wonder to whom Freddie showed his ring)

LibertyLover
(and Linda isnt a skirt person)

I have always seen Lynda as wearing calf-length Sensible Tweed Skirts in winter and belted cotton long dresses (with a cardi!) in summer. She simply doesn't come over to me as someone who would wear trousers.

Yes, same!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/03/2024 12:19

Easter Grin

I assumed the sound engineer was rummaging through the box of pre-recorded SFX, or digital equivalent, and thought 'Peacocks, that'll do - stately home, bound to have some'. Falcons or whatever Jessica looks after (if she's still there) would have been much more appropriate, but we can't have everything.

That was not a vintage episode, to put it mildly.

I just don’t think I can listen to TA any more. I’ve listened for 40 years and I’ve frequently been embarrassed listening to it in company but I now regularly feel embarrassed that I listen to such tripe when I’m on my own these days. The storylines are increasingly rubbish and deeply weird.

WitcheryDivine · 27/03/2024 12:46

apart from the gangster nonsense I’m quite enjoying it!

sad hearing Roy mentioned Sad

Teddleshon · 27/03/2024 12:53

Yes I don’t like hearing Roy mentioned, I find it upsetting.

Sorry but the “competition” between Robert and Linda combined with the Jolene nonsense has finished me off.

Eastie77Returns · 27/03/2024 13:45

It’s hit a low point over the last few months.

I think the Harry/Alice/Fallison storyline is quite good but the rest has been pretty poor.

I’m not really interested in Bartleby’s age or this nonsense with the cricket. The less said about the workplace ‘romance’ at the Veterinary surgery the better.

I’m actually interested in hearing about farming and the countryside because I live in East London and have very little knowledge about that lifestyle.

I can tune into Eastenders (or read my local Gazette) if I want to hear about aged criminal gangs and attack dogs..

Try Farming Today. Farming Today - 27/03/24 - ELMs change, leather and otters - BBC Sounds tanneries are mentioned.

Madcats · 27/03/2024 14:09

Admittedly I was dozing, but that Farming Today piece was really interesting.

I have a bad feeling that I'll end up booking myself onto a trainer-making day!

Teddleshon · 27/03/2024 14:45

Farming today is fab.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 27/03/2024 14:48

Do you have any links please @Madcats ?

In what possible way could either of the Snells being able to play cricket have any relevance to the suitability of Cricket Club Chairperson of the other Snell?

LikeTalkingToLassie · 27/03/2024 15:17

Isn't Robert am MCC member?
