Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think cowhide-covered walls are a great idea for a cafe with vegan and vegetarian customers, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from one of the better scripted conversations of recent weeks, when Fallon said ”Harrison, this is like talking to Lassie! Just TELL ME”. So true of so many conversations on TA where you just want to shake them and yell 'Just TELL US, and quickly, so you don't get interrupted before you can say the important bit', but of course they rarely do and days pass before the conversation resumes. @TheBell suggested putting it in the title, so thanks for that.

@OverArmour had a great if more obscure idea, paying tribute to a Peter Greenaway film: The Policeman, The Drunk, The Vet and his Lover. That will do very well as a starting point for the new thread. Will Alistair leave? Will Denise tell John she's leaving him? Will Paul learn to be less noisy? Do any of us care?

I do care a little about Harrison and Fallon. I want Harrison to get a grip and realise he needs a paying job more than the captaincy of the cricket team. I don't care at all about Harry but I think he's been brought in purely as a plot device so with any luck we can all forget about him very soon.

Over to you!

Yes George is a thoroughly unpleasant individual, takes after his mum but worse.

I thought Jolene was overreacting about the other lad, not George (senior moment here remembering names) who kept apologising. Definitely bar George but not the other one.

Russ was a sexual predator who abused the trust the school put in him and his students.

Rubbish writing again, when Lynda and Robert asked Freddie to choose he would have said that it was a private matter. All very contrived.

Booring pony story.

The only person I really like is Brian.

I must be addicted as I keep listening to this rubbish. I weaned myself off TV soaps many years ago but just couldn't give up TA. Maybe we should setup a support group for those that want to quit.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 17:39

@SaffyRosie , the other lad was Brad Horrobin.

Ambridge · 28/03/2024 18:21

What about Crissifur though? He's going to be internet famous as the Hot Farrier, with a huge following and lots of women sliding into his DMs

As soon as that bit started I INSTANTLY pictured Chris as that Hoof Doctor person on Insta or whatevs, the guy who made bovine sporn A Thing (and I’ve been known to loiter in Sporner Corner but even I blench a bit at some of his vids) 🤢🤮

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 18:24

We have a secret sporner in our midst!

Bruisername · 28/03/2024 19:15

I haven’t listened for a while. Couldn’t be bothered.

glad the cricket chairperson has been chosen. Hope that’s an end to it. Didn’t feel it very Robert to be hiding his disappointment by being overly jolly

george reverting to type and clearly gets it from his mother. What an idiot Emma is. Goes on and on about money issues and then quits her job due to her petulant son

i don’t really want to listen to George in the long term tbh. The unpleasantness is really jarring. I can’t think of any other unpleasant characters that weren’t at least listenable. What’s he going to do to Hannah?

sad the crime of the century is still being discussed

EBearhug · 28/03/2024 19:25

What an idiot Emma is. Goes on and on about money issues and then quits her job due to her petulant son

At least she's going to work her notice though, unlike almost every other resignation on soaps.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 19:30

At least she's going to work her notice though, unlike almost every other resignation on soaps. She needs the money.

FiveShelties · 28/03/2024 20:44

She will need the money even more when she finishes at The Bull.

I wonder if Will will change his mind about lending them money now.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 28/03/2024 20:47

Imagine how pleasant it will be for Jerlene working with Emmur now. I hope Aunty Tracy keeps an eye on Emmur.

Bit odd that Hannah managed to hit the ball don’t bypassed the netting and hit George’s hand. Clunky plot devices

echt · 28/03/2024 22:31

I think George had been shown as quasi-OK lately and the SWs feel we need reminding of what a weevily mysogynist he is.

I too think Emmurr will not have the physical strength and agility for the tree work. I know a women who does this work but is far younger. Emma's 40 this year and the SLs have shown no sign of her keeping fit.

FiveFoxes · 28/03/2024 22:47

I dislike George intently. Listening to him makes me feel very on edge. He is such a nasty bully. However, I like the storyline because it is believable. From what he's like to how his mother can see no wrong. I am pleased he has reverted to how he was before as I was rolling my eyes about how he's suddenly become ok.

OverArmour · 28/03/2024 23:05

I was just thinking about how they built up the George being a nasty incel piece of work storyline and then made him just mildly questionable, particularly with Hannah - and now they’ve seemingly picked it up again. It’s like a scriptwriter came back off maternity leave or something and objected to that type of man having any kind of redemption!

Seeing as he purposely made Hannah homeless I hope she wins this one.

I also, he makes my skin crawl too, and actually think he’s a really good actor with it. Even his tone of voice is just perfect.

OverArmour · 28/03/2024 23:06

Love the podcast addition @BeckyAMumsnet - makes sense and happy to have a place to go to find recommendations vs saving specific threads and then forgetting!

WelcomeMarchwithwintrywind · 29/03/2024 00:32

The only person I really like is Brian.

No, no, no! Self-righteous, self-justifying, serial philanderer, depriving the late Jenny of her Albion kitchen.

Edit, I think it was Albion. Was it £50k, years ago, or have I invented that? Serves Brian right.

Alwaysdieting · 29/03/2024 05:07

Im gĺad that George has gone back to his old ways even though he puts me on edge, but at least it makes a good story line. I wonder if Emma will fall out with Fallen too and end up jobless, she really is blind when it comes to George. If Hannah was that bad at Cricket how did she manage to hit George's phone and smash his screen (though Im glad she did) I'd have her on my team any day. Wonder what George is going to do to her. Hope he falls flat on his face.

Sidebeforeself · 29/03/2024 07:58

Oh God , yet more reasons for MeanEd to bang on about “muneee’

Sussurations · 29/03/2024 15:17

@Ambridge yes! Someone on the SW team has been watching the Hoof GP. Of course, in addition to his hoofly skills Chris is also unbelievably good looking (per his stint as Jesus a few years ago), so would doubtless be a YouTube sensation.

i don’t find it wholly in character for Emma to be so defensive of George all the time.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 29/03/2024 15:34

Wasn't it Harrison who was Jesus?

They're such a pair of losers. I hope this prompts Will to rescind his offer.

Wonder if Emma will end up at GG. Tracey might go too in solidarity.

Flamme · 29/03/2024 17:38

Me neither. She's fallen before into the trap of refusing to believe he could do anything wrong, only to hear for herself what horrible person he could be. She's not stupid, surely she would learn from experience.

Wasn't it Harrison who was Jesus?

Chris was Jesus about 10years ago, and then Harrison about 3years ago. Lots of talk about how hot Chris was when he did it. I think he even gave Harrison tips.

RegimentalSturgeon · 29/03/2024 17:50

There was. Rather distasteful, I thought.

Has the actor playing Robert snell changed?
sounds different
