Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Steph Casey is a wonderful addition to the programme, or similar odd views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Too dispirited to add much else. Have we reached a new low?

I suppose the Archer twins will be born before we need a new thread. 👶👶
Any thoughts on names? Patrick and Antonia were suggested before - inspired! Peggy has to be a strong contender.

Over to you!

@MuddlerInLaw Assuming you weren’t deliberately giving us a long link …. To get the link live as you have, you put it in double square brackets [[. If, when you’ve pasted your link, you put a space, and then some text, eg “Ruari in NYT” then close the brackets, the text is what appears in your post, not the ugly link.

MuddlerInLaw · 28/07/2022 20:01

Thanks Mere. I do actually know that and do it all the time - but I was a bit distracted, and slightly afraid of losing the ‘gift’ element if I altered this one!

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 20:05

Like ((www.mumsnet.com/ mumsnet))
but use square brackets not round brackets

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 20:08

Thanks @MuddlerInLaw , it was good of you to post the link, and it's great that 'Ruairi' is getting the publicity as he's a fine actor.

Sorry, I knew there was that risk. But I thought it might be helpful to someone else as well, so worth posting. And I can’t help indulging my inner know-it-all. Grin

Back to TA … I can’t believe Chelsea hasn’t been sacked. She’s rude to her boss and tonight she was rude to a customer too.

Seconded. I knew nothing about the Ruari actor.

TherapistInATabard · 28/07/2022 20:24

Shula decided she was in love with Neyull

whopping another thing my brain had blanked out. Utterly ludicrous

MuddlerInLaw · 28/07/2022 20:46

I’m loving Freddie as The Boss! He’s suddenly so much more mature😍. But it’s inconceivable that Chelsea would have kept her job if she were so rude to customers and colleagues.

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 21:14

@MereDintofPandiculation , don't be hard on yourself. It was me who added the second link, and as usual I was trying to be helpful and probably seemed patronising.

I love Freddie.

FlosCampi · 28/07/2022 21:36

Gosh tonight's episode made me really dislike every character except (marginally) Brad. How can those in the know be so casual about the arson, and it be almost a comic subplot? Isn't stealing the church collection and now this a very serious sign of escalating criminal behaviour, is there no unease in George's family? Chris and Alice seemed smug, Alice v shallow with her party planning and vocal fry much in evidence, Freddie a very slack boss in letting Chelsea act like a petulant child towards everyone, Great Uncle Gently Benevolent a wombling potterer for not doing anything practical to help his friend Tracy....whom have I missed?

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 21:44

Eddie and Toe B

Why should Gently Benolivent help Tracey? Would she welcome a handout?
Freddie might be anxious to not lose any staff, although I would have fired Chelsea after her interaction with Mere.

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 21:53

The blackmail, the trying to retrieve posted mail, talking of getting the postie to hand it back, and arson. None of it is good.

Maybe it will have been caught on a doorbell camera or dash-cam, and all three be in trouble. Susan has already been in prison.

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 22:09

Georgie is a Horrobin and a Grundy. Let's hope that Keyrer is more like Neyull and Clarrieluv.

In my defence I am menopausal, but this is a possible handy hint for me.

I was not really paying attention to the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, but I THINK they said that Charles and Camilla turned up in an Aston Martin that was converted to run on dairy cheesemaking waste?

Oh do catch up, Helen. He's just down the road.

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/07/2022 22:45

TA can't catch up until it's been a feature on Farming Today.
I've made kefir and it was OK.

FlosCampi · 29/07/2022 00:33

Gently Benevolent would help Tracey @WhoppingBigBackside because they were genuinely good friends and he'd been really supportive of her finding a career path. It wouldn't have to be a hand out, it could be pulling strings at the Rotary club to get her an interview elsewhere, or helping Brad enquire about whether his scholarship included a living allowance or encouraging Chelsea tp set up as a mobile hairdresser by asking a pal to help her with a website as a favour, or saying he needed someone to keep his car running as he hardly used it himself etc. Yes she might not accept it, but he would surely offer!

Madcats · 29/07/2022 07:07

I hope the editors and SWs were watching The Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony last night.

Prince Charles's Aston Martin has been converted to run on bioethanol (made from surplus English white wine and whey and a bit of unleaded petrol).

The firm making the stuff must be just down the road from Lizzie's vineyard and Helen's cheese factory.

A new venture for Toby, perhaps?

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/07/2022 07:48

@FlosCampi , given how she is treating him, I don't think she'd be receptive.
He could have got round Brad's commuting & accommodation costs by discussing it with Brad though.

Quia · 29/07/2022 10:42

I do find Freddie's sudden translation from minion to manager slightly improbable, but how nice for him that that vacancy suddenly turned up.

Hoping Brad gets promoted at LL so he gets to order Chelsea around.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 29/07/2022 10:45

I haven't heard much this week- did Susan carry out her unbelievably stupid and malicious intention to blackmail whoever it was who choked on an olive stone?

ILoveShula · 29/07/2022 11:03

You'll need to listen to find out @TheLassWiADelicateAir Wink

MereDintofPandiculation · 29/07/2022 19:36

The firm making the stuff must be just down the road from Lizzie's vineyard and Helen's cheese factory. Best part of an hour down the M5. It’s the wrong end of Gloucestershire

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 29/07/2022 23:37

No comments from this evening's episode? Lily telling Russ that she thinks Chelsey fancies him? Or Russ and lily Lily making plans to move from the big house?

Oh and baby stuff too.

Quia · 29/07/2022 23:40

Did we know about Lily going to Felpersham? I can't remember it being discussed.

I thought they were at least beginning to try to point out that the fire wasn't a jolly jape when they referred to Joy having lost her grandchild's £30. And George is showing incipient signs of becoming a really nasty piece of work with his blatant blackmail of Susan.
