Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would be delighted to be given a goldfish named after your ex, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Apologies for ignoring the various title suggestions on the last thread. However, here they are, plus a couple of other pithy observations, to kickstart the new thread. I think it's fair to say nobody is looking on this as a Golden Era! Goldfish Era, though ...

@Roysnewshirt: Everyone wants more! Chris wants more Amy; Jazzer wants more Tracey; Alice wants more time with Martha and Amy wants more space… Very true. And now we know Kirsty wants more farming expertise in the rewilding project, but not Pip (thank the lord) so does that mean approaching Adam? Currently under-employed.

@LillianGish: I tune in to hear birdsong and bleating in the English countryside not hammy acting and suggestive grunting.

@stilldumdedumming: Archers is good at the dynamics of family, farming, what it means to have your job, your home and your inheritance so closely aligned etc etc not this nonsense!

@DoctorTwo: Like fuck would Pheobe buy her parents a goldfish each. The Ambridge character transplant fairy has been working overtime this past few weeks, it's been absolutely fucking appalling bar a couple of exceptions.

Can't disagree with any of that. I want to hear more about the pigs and any other effects of Brexit. A topical insert about the war in Ukraine must surely be on the way.

Any happy listeners out there? Any disgruntled listeners with even more grumbles? Over to you!

Oo- Kathy's reappearance's other surprise is to be a house fairy!

Hmm - Oliver says Adil and his outfit are Good People. Hmmm

Has Pat always been so dreary?

I did enjoy Eddie and Ed. It's one of the occasions when people sounded completely natural.

Is Kathy leasing her house?

Or selling it off- market?

Has Pat always been so dreary?
Yes, always. We are probably going to be treated to a tedious s/l where she seeks to "find herself".

Re the house. I definitely got the impression it was being let, with all F&F.

Pat is a self obsessed super bitch and always has been.
A very selfish woman who cares only for herself.

Blimey Kimikos is it natural for country folk to rate sheeps' looks? I shall look at them slightly askance from now on in which case.

For showing? Yes. They were selecting an animal to enter a show.

I thought it was v unlikely that Emma would berate Ed for body-shaming the sheep - she's been around farmers long enough!

AIBU to try and dissuade my old friend from renting to my homeless son and his heavily pregnant wife because I want to keep them with me, override my daughter-in-law and get all the baby cuddles? YES, you bloody well are.

*my phone corrected mistyped “son” to “dim”. How apt.

I’m a bit confused. Is Adil buying GG on behalf of someone else or is he the new owner?

Pat is ridiculous and her disparaging comment in front of Kathy about the cottage being too small was very rude. I still can’t work out why Tom and Natasha cannot afford to buy a modest property. They are almost 40 and run two businesses between them yet continue to live like twenty somethings who have just left home.

I get that Pat has grandchildren on the way but having sold of quite a lot of land for the houses she & Tony must have enough so she could go on the road trip with Cathy ?

I think Ardil will offer job to Tracy and Roy will be left jobless ?

I am still trying to work out (in my head ) why sale had to go through quickly - not the end of the financial year , maybe before a competitor got wind Oliver was up for a sake - is Oliver still having a stake

Trying to imagine what 60 room hotel and spa could become ????

New abbatoir for Vince Casey? 🤔

I still think Ardil sounds like a slightly confused Paddington Bear who has come straight from Darkest Peru to Grey Gables.

@BeaLola I love that your trying to figure out the Archers in your head, rather than say, courting the opinion of strangers on the bus!

One of my favourite things is when my mum and I discuss the archers in front of my daughter like it's real people. She gets really involved until she twigs and then it's 'wait, this is the bloody Archers isn't it?!'

He is the agent, but seems to have authority to hire and to make ex gratia payments.

Everything about the Gnasher and Sausage Boy situation is ridiculous, including Pat's behaviour. The not eating cake in front of Gnasher is particularly so.

I'm sure Gnasher, if they were writing her true to character, would either not care at all or be annoyed at Pat assuming she was petty enough to care.

Good People - finally something that makes sense. The Fairy Folk are buying GG as their new regional HQ.

I think the Liaison job is to occupy air time keep some of the continuity I was banging on about earlier in this thread, and to do some PR for the local community so they don't all shun the Changeling GG when it reopens. Tracey would be fine at it, Roy would be rubbish.

Roy is meant to be attractive. Teenage Kate had a fling with him and I can't imagine, even if it were only to annoy her parents, she would pick someone unattractive.

He then married Hayley and whilst Hayley isn't an airhead, I've always imagined Hayley as being attractive both as to looks and personality, so in getting her Roy was either punching way above his weight , or had something going for him.

There was then the fling with Elizabeth, which presumably had no grounding at all other than physical attraction. Carol Tregorran guessed/ weedled it out of Elizabeth and made some comment about , "the Tucker boy and it being understandable"

Then there was Lexi. Like Hayley, I see Lexi as someone who is attractive both in looks and personality.

Tracey breifly had her eye on him but Roy put her off by (pretending to) being boring.

There was also the fiasco of the tent but it was discovering Roy's connections with Kate and Phoebe and that the 3 of them together are actually bonkers which put that one off.

Isn't it dodgy employment practice to decide to give bonuses to a favoured few redundant employees? Surely it's a hostage to fortune unless you can show a completely open, clear selection process so that there is no possible hint of any type of discrimination.

It would only be discriminatory if there was discrimination. If Ian gets a discretionary bonus and Kathy didn't, that would be, but not giving Tracey one isn't.

It was maudlin and tedious. And fgs, Kathy is going on an extended holiday- not emigrating.

And on the continuing subject of weird absences from current events- why has Lynda been silent? She was almost killed in GG.
