Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would be delighted to be given a goldfish named after your ex, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Apologies for ignoring the various title suggestions on the last thread. However, here they are, plus a couple of other pithy observations, to kickstart the new thread. I think it's fair to say nobody is looking on this as a Golden Era! Goldfish Era, though ...

@Roysnewshirt: Everyone wants more! Chris wants more Amy; Jazzer wants more Tracey; Alice wants more time with Martha and Amy wants more space… Very true. And now we know Kirsty wants more farming expertise in the rewilding project, but not Pip (thank the lord) so does that mean approaching Adam? Currently under-employed.

@LillianGish: I tune in to hear birdsong and bleating in the English countryside not hammy acting and suggestive grunting.

@stilldumdedumming: Archers is good at the dynamics of family, farming, what it means to have your job, your home and your inheritance so closely aligned etc etc not this nonsense!

@DoctorTwo: Like fuck would Pheobe buy her parents a goldfish each. The Ambridge character transplant fairy has been working overtime this past few weeks, it's been absolutely fucking appalling bar a couple of exceptions.

Can't disagree with any of that. I want to hear more about the pigs and any other effects of Brexit. A topical insert about the war in Ukraine must surely be on the way.

Any happy listeners out there? Any disgruntled listeners with even more grumbles? Over to you!

Just got massively confused about why Iain was talking about nationalism. Then realised I’d accidentally put on Any Questions from NI rather than the Archers BlushGrin

Did Adam actually mention Naples? He now seems to think Ambridge is centre of the pizza universe…I wonder if he is aware he has strayed into very choppy waters…I had no idea pizza was such a controversial issue…

I don't believe Ian would have bought a wood fired pizza oven in the first place.

I think Ian would be more of the type of chef whose shtick is using parts not normally eaten/ obscure/arcane/ indigenous ingredients - modern twist on Irish peasant farmers' food.

Roysnewshirt · 30/04/2022 15:02

Yes, you’re right. Ian is definitely more fine dining than Friday night take-away…

TottersBlankly · 30/04/2022 15:05

Hmm …

I’d have thought it was the sort of thing they’d just have as a domestic item, like the hot tub - without all the hand-wringing and big-business ideas.

DoctorTwo · 30/04/2022 16:30

@Roysnewshirt Butterscotch flavour Angel's Delight is not my idea of fine dining, but it's apparently Ian's favourite thing.

It's retro and ironic. What I wouldn't do for one right now.

Roysnewshirt · 30/04/2022 20:42

Haha @DoctorTwo - Well remembered! I think the Angel Delight is what’s known as guilty pleasure…

suzyscat · 01/05/2022 11:32

I'm not a big pizza fan but everything tastes better cooked outside imo

suzyscat · 01/05/2022 11:42

Ooh happy days, I've not been able to post on Mumsnet for ages but just reinstalled the app. That was my test post and I'm back. Hurrah!

@BeardieWeirdie I was like your kids. "I only eat basmati rice" I think it's sweet when kids say this stuff, though mortifying when it's your own. I can't imagine being annoyed with a child though, they just speak as they find and know what they're used to.

Yes, why are Alice and Chris so hard up? Why was rehab on a credit card after years of them both working full time in professional careers with no rent and no dependents? (Bar the horse.)

I have to say I'm surprised there's only 3 dogs too.

Love Tracey so much. I think she'd be wasted in a call centre but her interview episode was a hard listen.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/05/2022 12:19

Welcome back, @suzyscat ! I often find food eaten outdoors tastes particularly good, as long as there aren't wasps or sand involved.

New thread needed soon. Get your title thinking caps on!

I'd like to know where Susan buys butterscotch Angel Delight. Where I live woodfired, handmade, artisanal pizzas are ten a penny but I haven't seen anything other than strawberry flavour Angel Delight for yonks.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/05/2022 14:24

Stocked by Ocado, I've just found out! Goodness me.

Local Tesco (Extra) stocks chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and butterscotch

EBearhug · 01/05/2022 17:19

Quite a few supermarkets round this way do a variety of flavours of Angel Delight, though butterscotch is the only one which counts. Sainsbury’s does its own brand, too, which is not as good. (I tested it, so you don't have to.)

Chemenger · 01/05/2022 17:29

Back when Angel Delight was the height of decadence, up there with Vienneta, I never like the butterscotch one and stop I’ll don’t. The mint chocolate one is the best, I’m not sure if you can still get it.

WhoppingBigBackside · 01/05/2022 17:36

I have a packet in my kitchen cabinet as a symbol of my devotion to TA. I don't think that the mint chocolate one is still available, but I wouldn't try it if it was.

Could you improvise with chocolate AD and some waffer thin mints?

WhoppingBigBackside · 01/05/2022 17:41

@Chemenger , www.amazon.co.uk/Angel-Delight-Mint-Chocolate-59g/dp/B01IPKJ570

suzyscat · 01/05/2022 18:58

Thank you @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g it's great to be back!

I'm a strawberry AD girl through and through, though butterscotch is available in my local newsagents. I'd never even heard of butterscotch until a friend told me of its existence in my 20s. It was a sheltered childhood, I never even knew of the existence of chocolate flavour until secondary school.

suzyscat · 01/05/2022 19:00

Ooh chocolate flavour is rubbish but I'm all for trying mint chocolate

TottersBlankly · 01/05/2022 19:06

Oh my!

An anti-BOOP for making us wait so long …

Hmm
WhoppingBigBackside · 01/05/2022 19:17

@suzyscat , you hadn't heard of butterscotch AD? I'm amazed

Sainsbury's strawberry version isn't as good either.

KimikosNightmare · 01/05/2022 20:33

Well that was completely implausible.

JanglyBeads · 01/05/2022 21:49

Anyone notice Advil's mention of circumstances which meant the sale had to go through quickly or something?

What's Hazel doing, laundering money for oligarchs maybe??
