We listened to Prof Speigelhalter a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely - great music and a nice guy.
I also loved Ian Wright and Alan Carr (who normally irritates me)
Has anyone else got any recommendations?

Iain Wright for me, then Lyse Doucet (sp) and Lady Hale.
I love all of them though.

MaMaLa321 · 22/02/2022 22:51

I often find that the people I like don't do a good one, but people I have no opinion of are a real surprise.

I loved David Suchet's one. Also Kylie was a classic! Quite enjoyed Sharon Horgan's too.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/02/2022 22:52

Oh yes. Yes I have.

Dr William Frankland (if you never listen to another one you must listen to this)
Fliella Benjamin: prepare to weep with joy!
Stephen Graham
Tom Hanks

There’s more. Many more. I’ll be back!

BitOutOfPractice · 22/02/2022 22:52

Floella Benjamin that should read. You’ll need a lie down, a stiff drink and a tissue I tell you!

saddowizca · 22/02/2022 22:53

Can’t wait to see who you recommend so I can listen tomorrow Grin

terryleather · 23/02/2022 00:30

Far and away the best ever DID for me was Kathy Burke.

lilyfire · 23/02/2022 00:35

I remember Tom Hanks’ one as really good. Can’t really remember why so obviously need to re-listen.

Cissyandflora · 23/02/2022 00:40

nauticant · 24/02/2022 20:19

Tom Hanks and Floella Benjamin were both good.

Arminka Helić was terrific: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00099wv

One of the most liked is Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b04nvgq1

Noel Gallagher
Kathy Burke

I don’t remember his name, but there was a surgeon on who travelled to Syria to help out in the hospitals during the war, he told a story about operating on a little girl, it was so so upsetting and equally awe inspiring.

Oh and Sue Black was also amazing

southlondoner02 · 24/02/2022 20:25

Ian Wright
Stephen Graham
Nazir Afzal

I also like the episodes where it's someone you have.no interest in but you enjoy- Joe Wicks was one of those for me

southlondoner02 · 24/02/2022 20:26

Lemn Sissay's episode is good too

Halsall · 25/02/2022 16:55

I was going to say David Nott too, but Bore beat me to it Grin

It was great. He’s an inspiring person.

Rina66 · 25/02/2022 16:57

I thought Mark Strongs was interesting and Jack Vettriano

ReviewingTheSituation · 25/02/2022 17:00

Nigel Owens. Even if you don't like/know about rugby - a must-listen episode.

Richard Osman's was good - that's a recent one.

TreronsForTea · 25/02/2022 17:14

Helen McCrory was wonderful

nauticant · 25/02/2022 17:33

Anne Tyler was on the most recent programme and came across very well, particularly for those of us who like her books.

If you like DID, you would probably also like Private Passions on Radio 3. I see there 247 episodes available on the BBC website (Sounds), so plenty to be going on with. Guests are muscians or very keen on and knowledgeable about music, but come from a very wide range of backgrounds. The musical extracts are longer so there's less talk. No book or luxury, obviously!

The one I'm listening to right now is very good - US ceramicist, singer, activist, professor, entrepreneur, you name it, he's done it, from the sound of it - Theaster Gates. A new name to me, but I will be trying to find out more about him and his work.
