We listened to Prof Speigelhalter a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely - great music and a nice guy.
I also loved Ian Wright and Alan Carr (who normally irritates me)
Has anyone else got any recommendations?

Adrian Edmondson - when he talks about Rik Mayall, it’s just heartwarming and moving. His music choices are great too!

Richard E Grant - another tearjerker

As mentioned on another thread I really enjoyed the recent Peter White episode. 1 of my all time favourites was Maya Angelou that was repeated during 2020.

I listened to the Martin Lewis one on your recommendation @PixiePirate
It was interesting.
So sad that his Mum died when he was only 12 and he got no counselling Sad

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for letting me know.

I agree, it’s so sad to think of a child experiencing that trauma without professional support.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 04/01/2024 21:29

I did too! I wasn’t naturally drawn to it but after seeing it recommended on here I listened. It was so interesting, the way he coped by becoming reclusive. You wouldn’t know, would you?

Today's episode with Jamie Dornan is up with the best of them, I think.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/01/2024 13:46

Similar but different: Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy) was on Private Passions over on Radio 3. Some lovely music chosen.

Thanks for the tip off. Just listened to it. He sounds like a really engaging and decent person, which is quite unusual for an actor of his fame. He's very unlucky to have lost both his parents while still so young. Sad

LadyEloise1 · 28/01/2024 14:47

His Dad was an obstetrician and was much loved by his patients. Apparently he was a lovely man. He too died young. Sad

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/01/2024 14:54

Yes, he mentions that. Lauren Laverne said something like 'Your dad delivered 6000 babies in the course of his career. Have you ever met any of them?' and Jamie Dornan laughed and said 'Are you joking? At this stage it feels like I've met all 6000 of them. I go back to Belfast and someone says hello, I liked you in such and such, and I've got to tell you, your dad delivered me! He was such a lovely man ...' Grin What a terrific legacy to leave.

I'm enjoying listening to Cillian Murphy. It probably helps that I'm visualising his cheekbones as I listen ...

Greg Davies on today

dnac · 16/05/2024 20:27

From ages ago - Kirsty Young at her prime and the guest was Simon Murray. Fascinating and debonair man and a fabulous selection of music.

Rob Delaney
today
love him

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/07/2024 11:13

I'd never heard of him before but my word, that packed a punch. He's dealt with a lot. Good on him for coming out in one piece and not going back to drinking.

Willmafrockfit · 07/07/2024 11:17

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g
it certainly did pack a punch

Halsall · 07/07/2024 12:12

I was hoping someone else had heard this. What a lovely man he seems, and my God, what he and his family have been through. His reading of his book about his little boy when it was R4’s book of the week was heart-rending.

Willmafrockfit · 07/07/2024 12:40

did he read the book himself @Halsall
i would have liked to have heard this,

Halsall · 07/07/2024 19:05

Yes, he did @Willmafrockfit - really brilliantly too. No idea how he could do it.

Rina66 · 07/07/2024 19:44

I cried just reading about it today, how he asked his landlord (when they were moving out) if he could have first refusal on the house if he ever decided to sell it, as he would like to, in old age, die in the room his son died in 😢
