Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you warm to Hazel Woolley, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LiterallyKnowsBest for the thread title idea. I also liked @LillianGish's suggestion which was Conversions abound and it’s not just Harrison - Lily’s kitchens, Hazel’s flat, Jazzer’s finances, Bert’s bungalow...come and discuss The Archers - are you a convert or could you be converted? and that seems like a good place to kick off this thread.

Who'll get the bungalow? Pip, Josh or A. N. Other?

Will Lily leave the cold calling behind and launch a bid to run LL when Elizabeth hangs up her clipboard?

Will Jazzer become a financial whiz after mastering Tracy's state of the art budgeting techniques, viz, writing it all down in a little notebook with a kitten on the front?

Over to you!

Maybe it’s Amy who will come a cropper on the stairs. Chris will have to call an ambulance in the wee hours and it will get round the village like wildfire that Amy was visiting in the dead of night.

Hello 👋 again btw. I’ve had another 3+ weeks of catching up of episodes and thread to do. I hope Kirsty stays now she knows there’s a rewilding job in the offing. Surely that’s a better bet than a hotel job in the country I’ve forgotten. Although I can imagine wanting to get the hell out of dodge before the twins arrive!

LovedayCL · 26/02/2022 00:55

I smiled at the pig farm security code.

I missed that. What was it?
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/02/2022 07:34

I missed that too!

Also, Kirsty's emigration to Plovdiv - really? In current circumstances? I am the most risk averse person on the planet so maybe it's me but I wouldn't be setting out for a new life in Eastern Europe at the moment, even though Bulgaria has no border with Ukraine or Russia. Apart from anything else, I don't expect this will do the tourist trade there any good, and she's supposed to be working in a hotel.

Pig security code was "1-9-8-4".

I've still not recovered from realising that i like "nice Hannah".

TottersBlankly · 26/02/2022 08:28

Poor SWs! I refuse to admonish them for not predicting What Russia Has Done.

Kirsty definitely should leave, and set herself free from Ambridge. But Bulgaria seems awfully unlikely.

🐷🔑🔢 ?

TottersBlankly · 26/02/2022 08:29

Ah, thanks!

I hadn't missed the code and thought it might be a signpost.

Nice Hannah is pleasant, but she's not really nice is she. Unless she is being lined up for Rex...

Amy comoing a cropper on the stairs would be good. Who'd walk Elvis and his canine chums?

Plovdiv is about 1200 m from Kyiv, slightly further than London is from Salzburg.

I really like Kursedy so don't want her to leave. I also like Alice

suzyscat · 26/02/2022 15:37

Whilst I think hiring a village hall for a first birthday party is OTT and Alice is trying to make up for ballsing up the christening, so in a sense this party is most definitely for her, but it's for her as a mother. I think given her journey to this that's something worth celebrating and wouldn't begrudge her it.
I'd be too chagrin to do it myself but I do get it.

EthelTheAardvark · 26/02/2022 18:54

If I'd tried for a big 1st birthday party for my kids, you can bet that the star of the show would have thrown up all over his/her special birthday getup and mine, spent an hour distraught and crying and I'd end up taking him/her home and missing the rest of the party. Just not worth the grief.

EthelTheAardvark · 26/02/2022 18:56

I wonder if they're going to clarify the process that led Amy straight from a date with one man to another man's bed? Did Chris lie in wait for her, or did her pheromones float mysteriously out of the shop doorway and entice her in?

It makes sense to me. Alice pushed her into going on a date with Rex when she didn't really want to. It was pleasant enough but no sparks. After a couple of drinks she called in to see Chris on her way home and ... the rest is history. I can see it happening.
TherapistInATabard · 27/02/2022 11:49

I’ve been wondering if Chris and Amy had already slept together. He obviously wasn’t happy when Alice was talking about Rex, and Amy’s clearly visited a lot. Maybe not, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Chris wasn't happy but the scenario of being in the pub with Rex and then the next scene is in Chris' bed with no explanation was badly done.
Roysnewshirt · 27/02/2022 12:19

Oh dear- what a pickle. I actually think it’s not as bad as it first appears as Alice has categorically said she doesn’t want to be with Chris many many times. This should leave the way clear for others, though a friend rebuked me for this logical approach and said that such a liaison would be totally inappropriate for a minimum of 3 years (this seems arbitrary though and based on nothing substantive)…

My friend was far happier with a one night stand for Chris with someone from a dive bar in Felpersham but I don’t think Alice would have been thrilled with that option either.

Clapping hands with glee at the script line hotting up, though we will probably now be in for a tedious week of comedy with the Grundies…sigh

I think it was well done and quite deliberate. We were led to expect to hear Rex's voice (and think 'that was quick!') but it was Chris.

EBearhug · 27/02/2022 12:30

I don't think Alice is going to see it that way. Just because she doesn't want Chris won't mean she wants anyone else to have him, especially not someone as close as Amy. I suspect on one level, she noticed the connection between Chris and Amy, and that’s partly why she was pushing Rex and Amy so much, though I'm not sure she'll recognise that on a conscious level.

A simar dictation (not married, no children) caused massive ructions on a friendship group I was in about 18 years ago. Apparently it's not the done thing to move in to your best friend's former partner so quickly, even if they have both been very clear it's definitely over. I was on the side of, they'd broken up, so it shouldn't matter, but I was definitely in a minority. And I think Alice is definitely going to be the type to say, I don't want him, but no one else can have him either.

EBearhug · 27/02/2022 12:31

For dictation read situation. Useless autocorrect.

KimikosNightmare · 27/02/2022 12:34

Alice is a spoilt brat. The fact she doesn't want to be with Chris doesn't remotely mean she won't throw a strop if someone else is.

It was well done to throw our expectations. It was badly done in theb sense of being a plausible out come.

I thought it was plausible maybe that's just my misspent youth.

Me too. Nothing like a night out with someone you're not so keen on to make you certain about who you actually want to be in bed with.

The operative word being "youth" Plausible as a student. I thought it was a very clumsy plot device.
