Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you warm to Hazel Woolley, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LiterallyKnowsBest for the thread title idea. I also liked @LillianGish's suggestion which was Conversions abound and it’s not just Harrison - Lily’s kitchens, Hazel’s flat, Jazzer’s finances, Bert’s bungalow...come and discuss The Archers - are you a convert or could you be converted? and that seems like a good place to kick off this thread.

Who'll get the bungalow? Pip, Josh or A. N. Other?

Will Lily leave the cold calling behind and launch a bid to run LL when Elizabeth hangs up her clipboard?

Will Jazzer become a financial whiz after mastering Tracy's state of the art budgeting techniques, viz, writing it all down in a little notebook with a kitten on the front?

Over to you!

@TottersBlankly

Doubt we’ll meet the result of tonight’s rendezvous for years. She’ll appear at just the right moment to provide maximum mortification for her long lost Pa.
I’d feel a bit sorry for Alice if this storyline played out with both her dad and husband!

Is it me or is Alice sounding more Katey every day? Why she doesn’t just get in her car and go find a job in another town or village I cannot imagine.

Prestissimo · 25/02/2022 08:11

It was certainly deliberate. And written as such. The fall-out could be interesting.

TottersBlankly · 25/02/2022 08:12

Oh, ignore that post, BowerOfBramble!

I am mortified to confess that for some inexplicable reason (though maybe going in and out of the kitchen) I briefly thought it was Hannah getting dressed in Chris’s bedroom. Which would have led to a Prodigal Johnny situation in about 16 years time.

Obviously things will play out very differently, and more swiftly, with the saintly Amy.

BowerOfBramble · 25/02/2022 08:33

I’m a bit confused because I feel this could in some ways become a repeat of what happened with Roy/Kate/Phoebe? Knock up an irresponsible Aldridge, get a baby, palm it off on a calm woman who’s used to working with babies/children.

BowerOfBramble · 25/02/2022 08:34

I meant Roy/Kate/Hayley/Phoebe

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/02/2022 08:34

@KimikosNightmare

I hope someone points out to Alice what a stupid and environmentally unsound idea a balloon release is
I was thinking this.
CaptainMyCaptain · 25/02/2022 08:36

I missed that it was a virtual balloon race so that's OK.

KimikosNightmare · 25/02/2022 08:55
@KimikosNightmare it was a virtual balloon race she was talking about. Environmentally friendly apparently:
www.balloon.co.uk/virtual-race/

(And a bit weird if you ask me. But, she didn’t. And maybe someone in the prod team wants to publicise such things for some reason).
I only half listen, if that, to the drivel that comes out of Alice's mouth. It's either whining self- pity or over- wrought gushing girlyness.

I really dislike her attitude to Martha who seems to be more a lifestyle accessory than an actual baby- viz this ridiculous party. And wasn't there some guff about cuddling up and watching a film together?

KimikosNightmare · 25/02/2022 09:00

Is it me or is Alice sounding more Katey every day?

Not just you.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/02/2022 09:04

Could I just mention that Amy, as a midwife, should have more awareness of contraception, and the consequences of forgetting it about it, than anyone else in Ambridge. I won't be best pleased if we have yet another accidental conception after the one and only time a pair have sex.

TottersBlankly · 25/02/2022 09:21

Well, that’s true, Gasp0de - but when have two soap characters in their fertile years ever had a one night stand without a resulting baybeeeee?

👶🏼

Roysnewshirt · 25/02/2022 10:22

Totally agree that Brian intended to leak the closure plan- he made such a point of using the open plan office facilities rather than hiding away in Neil’s office.

Did Amy really say ‘pass my tights’?!? Talk about killing the mood…

Roysnewshirt · 25/02/2022 12:41

Also, if she was wearing tights then that means she was wearing a skirt to the Bull for the date with Rex. That feels a bit like overdressing to me.

We are now going to have a series of scenes with Rex convinced that the date went well and that they have a future while Amy wrestles with her conscience over whether she should reveal all to Alice…

BowerOfBramble · 25/02/2022 13:48

Chris and Amy are going to keep up the secret shagging for a while I reckon

BowerOfBramble · 25/02/2022 13:49

Tights and skirt to the pub isn’t overdressing! Some people wear skirts and dresses a lot.

EBearhug · 25/02/2022 13:50

She had been talking about how it would be nice to have an excuse to dress up.

Why is wearing a skirt overdressing?
KirstenBlest · 25/02/2022 14:06

Because there's no doof doof SL in it, unlikeb the Alice vs Kris kustardy of Marthyr and KrisnAimless SLs

KirstenBlest · 25/02/2022 14:08

@Roysnewshirt, wearing a skirt to the Bull for the date with Rex. That feels a bit like overdressing to me.

I'd probably wear jeans but I'd not think I was overdressing if I put on something like a jumper dress woolly tight and flat boots

Madcats · 25/02/2022 17:12

The scriptie this week was Sarah Hehir (I felt certain that it would have been a man for some reason)

So presumably Rex and Amy walked past the shop, said farewell and went their separate ways and then drunken Amy decided to leg it back to the shop, climb the 'oh so steep' staircase and spend the night with Chris on a whim?

Wouldn't Alan and Usha have wondered where she had got to? It's not like she would have missed the last train home and be staying at a friend's place? Those Ambridge lanes are dangerous!

ButtonSister · 25/02/2022 17:15

I think Rex is going to live on his campsite which is why the telescope will come in handy.
I thought Sounds must have cut a bit out of last night's episode until I came on her to check. Surely they could have carved out 20 seconds to have Amy deciding to call in on Chris. Poor editing there.

Roysnewshirt · 25/02/2022 17:20

I think I had something quite glam in my head but actually she was more likely to be in a Boden dress with suede boots. You are, of course, quite right- that wouldn’t be overdressed at all.

It was done that way so that we'd think it was Rex handing over the bra and tights

It might have been late at night/the early hours/v early morning she was leaving rather than eg 8am. If her dad knew she was on a date presumably he would assume it had gone well!

I just don’t believe that knackered out no sleep Chris would have had it in him.

EBearhug · 25/02/2022 20:42

I don't think she was spending the whole night.
