Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you warm to Hazel Woolley, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LiterallyKnowsBest for the thread title idea. I also liked @LillianGish's suggestion which was Conversions abound and it’s not just Harrison - Lily’s kitchens, Hazel’s flat, Jazzer’s finances, Bert’s bungalow...come and discuss The Archers - are you a convert or could you be converted? and that seems like a good place to kick off this thread.

Who'll get the bungalow? Pip, Josh or A. N. Other?

Will Lily leave the cold calling behind and launch a bid to run LL when Elizabeth hangs up her clipboard?

Will Jazzer become a financial whiz after mastering Tracy's state of the art budgeting techniques, viz, writing it all down in a little notebook with a kitten on the front?

Over to you!

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . Been awol but am not impressed with Harrison 'finding God' as a storyline.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 19/01/2022 21:25

Oh heavens! Blush

Slightly ruined my name change plans, but thank you, Gasp0de.

Could Tom be any more loathsome?

DoctorTwo · 19/01/2022 22:02

Blimey, Tom trying to guilt Chris into giving up the flat wasjust cringeworthy. Plus, how many people are now trying to keep Pinky and perky secret now Tom appears to have told the entire fucking village.

echt · 19/01/2022 22:18

God, Tom's a piece of work, isn't he? First he lies to Hazel about not being against her like the others, in order to weasel his way back into the flat, then lies about her to Chris.

He's not up there with GoT's Peter Baelish, because he lacks his intelligence, but he's an unhesitating, self-seeking liar.

Also, Chris could just so easily check back with Hazel about it all.

Roysnewshirt · 20/01/2022 08:11

So Tom still has the hots for Kirsty

Yes, I agree that’s exactly how it seemed. Surely he can’t be starting to realise that perhaps he treated her rather badly…

BowerOfBramble · 20/01/2022 08:14

Where are we getting this tom Kirsty stuff from? I admit I was washing up while listening yesterday so may have missed something.

LillianGish · 20/01/2022 08:50

I didn’t get the Tom and Kirsty thing either. The way I heard it, Chris was being forced to remember lots of unpleasant incidents he’d rather not think about for his divorce papers which prompted Tom to do some thinking of his own (about not facing up to his feelings and dumping Kirsty long before she got to the altar) and telling Chris to man up, face up to it and get on with it - which is what Tom should have done.

Madcats · 20/01/2022 09:03

Thanks for the new thread Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g.

I've not listened yet, but a cosy flat with steep external stairs doesn't seem like the best choice for a parent with a young(ish) baby, let alone a couple expecting twins!

Stella should have it.

BowerOfBramble · 20/01/2022 09:21

I think Stella has probably got a beautiful place of her own somewhere.

Oh. I was more thinking he was referring to the - relatively recent - miscarriage which left Kirsty devastated and which Tom moved on from rather quickly. I think the ground is being laid for all sorts of poignant moments between Tom and Kirsty when the twins arrive. I expect a one night stand reunion is unlikely but I wouldn’t rule it out if Natasha nags him too much after the birth.

Flumpaphone · 20/01/2022 11:09

I was quite irritated at Krissifur apologising to Tom, it was great listening to hear him tell Sausage Boy where to get off.

Kenton is a pillock isn't he, expecting people to put a huge amount of work in for free to make his pub money then being spectacularly rude to them. I can't see why anyone would bother.

Are we going to have another round of musical houses with TomnTash moving into Alice and Chris' house (The Nest?) when Alish disappears to go engineer something?

LillianGish · 20/01/2022 12:25

The Bull Valentine’s Day planning is almost as tedious as the run up to the Mysteries. Seriously - it’s a night in the village pub. Just serve some nice food and have done with it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/01/2022 13:21

Have we ever heard of Scoby before? It's not an attractive name. Makes me think of Scooby Doo, scurvy and scabies.

I was very annoyed at Chris' apology. Even if Tom hadn't been lying Chris was 100% in the right.

Also don't see why Chris should be the one who has to move anyway.

And it's every year too. So dull.

Scoby: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCOBY

Not very attractive at all.

Roysnewshirt
I was more thinking he was referring to the - relatively recent - miscarriage which left Kirsty devastated and which Tom moved on from rather quickly.

Kirsty was doing fine about the miscarriage, not particularly devastated and trying to get on with her life without making a ten-ring circus of it, until a lot of people started bullying her about not grieving properly, and talking at her in hushed tones, which drove her into having a minor breakdown. Tom was inconsolable for weeks, and sensitive on the subject for months, in spite of the fact that it was very little to do with him apart from the sperm-provision, and Kirsty had made it very clear indeed that she didn't want him butting in on her parenthood.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/01/2022 14:26

The Bull should hold a Valentine's Tango Night.

Extra points if luscious Giovanni Pernice can be persuaded to guest star.

BlueCowWonders · 20/01/2022 14:31

Tom - loathsome - check
The Bull - tedious - check

I should have skipped the episode and just read this thread

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/01/2022 14:40

We may already have covered this, but if Phoebe finally looks for a demanding job with prospects suitable for an Oxford PPE graduate, Kirsty must surely be in pole position to take over management of the rewilding and camp site.
