Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you warm to Hazel Woolley, or other unusual views.

Thanks to @LiterallyKnowsBest for the thread title idea. I also liked @LillianGish's suggestion which was Conversions abound and it’s not just Harrison - Lily’s kitchens, Hazel’s flat, Jazzer’s finances, Bert’s bungalow...come and discuss The Archers - are you a convert or could you be converted? and that seems like a good place to kick off this thread.

Who'll get the bungalow? Pip, Josh or A. N. Other?

Will Lily leave the cold calling behind and launch a bid to run LL when Elizabeth hangs up her clipboard?

Will Jazzer become a financial whiz after mastering Tracy's state of the art budgeting techniques, viz, writing it all down in a little notebook with a kitten on the front?

Something on a different bit of the board. Got told to think abut her behaviour, like a naughty child, and let them know when she decided she could be Nice. I suspect she may still be thinking about it; I think if she were Nice she'd be a lot less interesting.

I think it may have been an outbreak of exasperation with mimsy sentimentality on AIBU, or something of the kind, but it might easily have been FWR. I have been severely Warned for something I said on there, and I am not even sure what was wrong with it and once it's been removed one can't check it to see if one can work out one's offence, so anything is possible.

There's certainly a lot of mimsy sentimentality about.

I had to listen three times because David’s groan sounded like Ben (or josh) shouting ‘Dad’.
they were deffo driving. There was heavy rain throughout both before and after ‘the event’
Conjecture - they’ve run into Pip out late as the drains are causing further trouble. A tree has fallen and killed Ruth. This is actually what I pictured immediately.
The most confusing scene imaginable.

Yes !!! That's exactly what I thought on first listening.

Omg so my ‘deffo driving’ may have to be rethought. Must say I was struggling to hear an actual engine but could hear rain - bloody hell it could have been a hot tub - do they even have one ??

They were definitely driving. There was a weirdly long time between Ruth yelling/being thumped and David making a peep.

Guess 1: bumped into a person or cow, on Ruth’s side. Ruth unconscious but ok

Guess 2: swerved off a low bridge through a barrier into some water. Medical crises followed by realisation that they’d like to retire/move to Sicily for a bit, meaning more of the junior archers having to try to run the place as a kind of audition.

I'm sure they were driving home. I never, at any point, imagined a hot tub. Were pp joking about that?

And what a bizarrely paper thin plot. Do we need to be spoon fed every storyline? My thoughts exactly - no one who has been listening to The Archers for even a relatively short time can have failed to notice that there’s a question mark over who will take over at Brookfield (personally I’ve always thought it would be the Pope of farming Pip who got her boot firmly in the door from an early age and is roundly worshipped by both parents). The idea that there needed to be any sort of discussion let alone a sub-plot of two of the siblings falling out as if no listener were aware that might happen made last night’s episode feel like a one-off drama about a random set of characters.
