Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Shula will make an excellent vicar, or other unusual things. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed.

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to many of you for title suggestions. @JanglyBeads said that this thread had to be a Bert tribute so needed a rhyming title. From an excellent field, I chose the suggestion from @BorsetshireBanality (who also has a cracking username).

Check out the last thread for the other suggestions and various poetic offerings inspired by Bert Fry's passing. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4349822--Archers-thread-131-A-time-to-plant-a-time-to-reap-Discuss-The-Archers-here

So, who'll get the bungalow? Rex, Stella, Pip? If Rex has to move, will he doss down beside his pigs at Lower Loxley? Or will Rex be a resident at Her Majesty's pleasure, having bumped off Trevor for being the world's most boring man? Now Freddie's on the case, are Russ's days at LL numbered? Will we ever hear Jill again, or was Bert just the first of many older cast members to be dedded? Sad

Over to you!

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

Yes, that was extraordinary behaviour.
Yes, but it was Harrison. Do you take his policing seriously? If not, then you can hardly expect Lynda to

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

Hazel owns the Village Shop and the flat above it, and she owns Keeper's Cottage, both of which were left to her in Jack Woolley's will.
So I'm not getting why she doesn't give due notice and move in to one them.
Madcats · 04/12/2021 09:36

I'm still wondering Why Hazel is back in Ambridge?

Is it to buy Grey Gables from Oliver (as she has such happy memories of being tied up and gagged there as a teenager)?

Is she going to become the Fairbrethren's bestie and give them a tenancy of Keepers Cottage?

Or are the editors inviting old cast members back to Ambridge to give them a proper "good-bye"?

They are sort of hinting that we can expect to hear from Mike and Vicky and possibly Philip in the coming weeks?

At the moment I am happy for her to annoy Kate.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 04/12/2021 10:15

Dreadfully, I do slightly see Hazel’s point about The Ambridge Conservation Trust - Jack really should have been mentioned somewhere. And actually I imagine real Peggy would have tied the grant to him. So a SW failure.

Beyond seeking glory for her father’s name … My guess is that both money and … community affection are lacking in her current domestic environment (did she say Kent?) and her illness has highlighted this for her. She’s clearly looking to move back permanently - and will turf someone out to do so. But that all sounds relatively benign, and we know she’s utterly poisonous, so perhaps she has something worse in mind.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/12/2021 11:28

It really beats me why anyone with neither relatives nor friends in nor anywhere near the place would move to Ambridge, particularly if she must know she made herself completely odious to everyone there.

but if she does own property there that's a strong time imo.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/12/2021 11:40

There is the whole of the rest of the country; why should owning property in this dead-end hole full of people who dislike her be an inducement to live in Ambridge?

Talking of which, what's happened to Joy?
Flumpaphone · 05/12/2021 09:14

I've had a memory lapse, who lives in Keeper's Cottage now?

She won't move the Fairbretheren in they couldn't afford it. Where is Rex going to live? Are we going to have a countryside homelessness story with him sleeping in the car next to the pigs?

Are the Dopeys going to rent out the bungalow? New characters or will it be forgotten about?

EBearhug · 05/12/2021 09:19

I think k there are just anonymous renters in Keepers.

Rex will end up in Rickyard, and Toby, Pip and Rosie will end up in the bungalow with a room each.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 05/12/2021 09:28

Only, there’s absolutely no reason for Rex to linger at Brookfield. He should be at LL with his pigs. (Not in his car or a pig pen; there’s sure to be somewhere suitable in a forgotten corner of the grounds - and I’ll be painfully disappointed if the SWs don’t discover it.)

EBearhug · 05/12/2021 09:32

I think he will end up at LL, but not yet.

That sounds like a fire hazard. Keep away from naked flames!

It feels like years ago since Bert died. Was obviously on our minds when I started this thread. Was Rex talking about preparations for the funeral the other day, on the phone to Toby? I suppose the long delay is realistic these days.

OP posts:
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/12/2021 16:39

Bert died on 25th October, and the funeral is at some time fairly immediate. It may even have already happened: Bert's family were due to arrive on Friday, that was why Rex and Toby said on Thursday they were going to have a thorough tidy-up in the Bungalow.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/12/2021 18:37

My mil died the week before last and her funeral is 21st December. I don't know why Bert's has taken so long if it hasn't already happened.

purplesequins · 05/12/2021 18:42

or is it only a wake/remebrance type thing and the official funeral has already happened?
when a friend died bastard cancer is was 8 weeks between death and funeral. that was in london pre-covid.

sorry for your loss captain

LiterallyKnowsBest · 05/12/2021 19:09

Well, this is stupid already.

As if anybody running an operation like Bridge Fresh would be thinking, on December 5th, of new Christmas things to do this year. Xmas Hmm
