Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you long to hear Pip again, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish and @PersephonePromotesEquanimity for the title suggestions.

Current events: as @Bailey0703 has astutely spotted, it's Anti-Slavery Day tomorrow - could this herald the beginning of the end of the horses storyline? I do hope so. Horrible stuff, but what a blow for Kirsty. They're laying on the dramatic irony with trowel at the moment.

What do we think will happen to Alice and Chris? I can't see this pregnancy going to term and ending well. Sad I don't think the marriage will survive either, giving Brian a chance to revisit his classic line about having to treat this as Alice's starter marriage. Grin

Will Elizabeth end up on a date with Vince Casey? That would put the cat among the pigeons at Lower Loxley.

Over to you ...

Apparently they say Goorick. Eek! It doesn't sound like that at all in Welsh. It's nearer to Greech, ch as in scottish loch.

Well, I said that the Chrysalis would be dedded, didn't I.

I hate the expression 'trying for a baby'. I hadn't really thought about it until a friend said that her DB and DSIL had announced at a family meal that they were TFAB, and that it had made her feel quite sick.

Is it me, or is Kristiffur a bit scary?

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 09:33

Actually no, nearer to G'rich.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/11/2020 11:46

David knows perfectly well what Eddie is up to, and said as much to Ruth.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/11/2020 11:50

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

David knows perfectly well what Eddie is up to, and said as much to Ruth.
Definitely this. He knew and thought 'better the devil you know...'. At least Eddie won't trash the place.
Darker · 17/11/2020 12:15

Yes exactly. David knows that Eddie will guard his 'spot' with true dedication.

Poor Alice. I wondered for a moment whether she has started nipping out for a drink. I hope she gets the help she so clearly needs, which could start with her being properly honest with Chris about her drinking.

Also I'm sure there is a reason she's been chosen as Jenny's confidante about Ruari - maybe to help her to understand the source of her problems (being a daddy's girl, Brian's philandering, living up to saint Debbie, Jenny's strange mix of phenomenal woman and twittering doormat).

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 12:21

I wondered if David and Ruth were too dim to figure out that it was Eddie's detector.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/11/2020 12:53

I suspect David may have been fairly sure all along, especially since we were told Eddie was up there with a metal detector when the students were around, on 15th October.

"Jill is filling in the paperwork about the coins; Ruth is hoping for twenty-first birthday party bookings by the students. And Eddie has wangled his way into it all, with a metal detector."

theThreeofWeevils · 17/11/2020 14:24

Is it me, or is Kristiffur a bit scary?

Scary? Hardly. Thick as pigshit? Most definitely.
Looking forward to the lovely Emmur's comments on the impending not-at-all-tragic 'Tragedy '. Will she remember her threat that Alice would have her to answer to if harm came to her bruvver's baby?

Taswama · 17/11/2020 14:57

I thought the star gazing sounded like a cover story.

MereDintofPandiculation · 17/11/2020 15:01

There was Reece - ychafi! It's Rhys, and it's a lovely old name and not said as Reece or Rees in Welsh. So how is it said?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/11/2020 16:02

Doesn't how you pronounce Rhys depend on whether you are from South Wales or North Wales? I'd incline to think there is the ghost of an h at the very beginning of the word, and short i as in Mick, but that's probably just Usk-speak.

LillianGish · 17/11/2020 18:17

I suspect David may have been fairly sure all along - I agree. I think he strongly suspected and when Eddie asked for the metal detector that confirmed it. He doesn't think he's going to find anything - which makes me think he might!

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 18:56

@MereDintofPandiculation, Rhys. There's no R in it.

You'd need to hear a Welsh speaker say it. It's a very popular name. On
forvo.com/word/rhys/, Emmzi is the best one.

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 19:00

Rh is like saying R and H at exactly the same time.

Ooh.Are we going to hear Emmur give Alice a piece of her mind? Yes please.

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 19:18

I paused it, I couldn't bear to listen. Poor Alice.

Justnormajean · 17/11/2020 19:20

Well that was worth listening to, I though Alice was very convincing.
Now what?

BeardieWeirdie · 17/11/2020 19:34

Ugh Alice is vile. This has stirred up all the bitter feelings I had towards unfit mothers whilst miserably not pregnant/post-miscarriage. I know he’s a blockhead but I hope Chris can somehow survive this and find someone better.

StillDumDeDumming · 17/11/2020 19:45

Can someone just tell me if the baby is gone please?

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/11/2020 19:47

Alive and kicking.

StillDumDeDumming · 17/11/2020 19:51

@CaptainMyCaptain oh! Thank you

theThreeofWeevils · 17/11/2020 20:01

@CaptainMyCaptain

Alive and kicking.
Not for long, I suspect - like the Borefeathers, it will be required to vacate its current premises, but on rather shorter notice. Then Alice can find someone who doesn't want a baby and has a few braincells more than her Starter, Carte current husband.
theThreeofWeevils · 17/11/2020 20:02

Starter Carter, drat it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/11/2020 20:05

Or could be born with FAS.

CheetasOnFajitas · 17/11/2020 20:07

I LOVED that Chris phrased it as “Emma was right” when Alice finally confessed.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/11/2020 20:08

Cue a reconciliation with the Carter siblings.
