Random thought from a long time loiterer, first time poster.
Do we reckon the SWs are working up a SL linking Brexit negotiations with Debbie and whether she'll have the right to stay on in Hungary?

EBearhug · 05/05/2017 16:49

I think Debbie being in Hungary has more to do with Tamsin Greig's filming schedule than anything else...

R4 · 05/05/2017 17:05

Thread title:
Hard Times at Brookfield. Will Pip save the day by having yet another personality transplant?

DoctorTwo · 05/05/2017 17:42

"We want more realistic storylines: Joe Grundy buying a round? Do me a favour! Toby being reliable would be more believable."

IAmNotAUserNumber · 05/05/2017 18:04

Following on from R4 how about a reference to Hard Times ((Brookfield), Bleak House (Home Farm inheritance story) and will Pip deliver on Toby's Great Expectations? But pithier than that!

GrumpyOldBag · 05/05/2017 19:17

I don't see why Pip & Toby need to move out of Rickyard immediately - surely then can clean & tart it up a bit while they are still living there?

selsigfach · 05/05/2017 19:56

Because Pip doesn't want to be with him anymore and this is a coward's way out of dumping him. It will be easier to break things completely when they're no longer living together. "Since we've been living apart, it's made me realise how much I like my own space" etc.

Minimammoth · 05/05/2017 20:21

I obviously need to catch up. Are Pip n Tobes being asked to move out of rickyard? I thought that was just thread speculation.
Most of us just decorate whilst staying put.

Imbroglio · 05/05/2017 20:31

Pip still lying, then. She clearly wants to dump Toby, or at the very least take a break.

LillianGish · 05/05/2017 20:51

I'd also like to vote for a what the Dickens is going on? type title.

Ceto · 05/05/2017 21:17

Ruth talking about how mature Pip was being was clearly putting her back on the Saint Pip pedestal. If only she hadn't had to be nudged into it by Alan.

viques · 05/05/2017 21:25

Well personally speaking , if I rent a holiday cottage I expect a bit more finesse than a hasty clean by a sloppy amateur and a splash or two of emulsion covering up the worst of the grubby fingerprints and scuffs.

At the very least I expect decent beds, good bed linen, a well equipped kitchen with matching crockery and cutlery and decent cooking utensils . Otherwise I will be straight on Tripadvisor !

Fink · 05/05/2017 21:31

So Pip's not content to have caused the Grundys to lose income through not working at Brookfield, she also wants to compete with them in the (one would think already saturated) Ambridge tourist market!

Ceto · 05/05/2017 21:34

If you don't start advertising holiday accommodation till May, you're not going to get great take-up over the summer, are you? Unless of course you're in a real tourist trap like parts of Cornwall or the Lake District.

echt · 05/05/2017 22:17

Hasn't Pip read about the 5-year low dip in UK consumer spending? How many holiday lets are there in Ambridge? The Grundys, now the Rickyard. Doesn't Linda Snell have something, not to mention Kate's yurt/retreat ( which hasn't been mentioned for ages).

What slime ball Toebee is. Oh, and buying a (presumably) Pandora bracelet with her money. I do hope Pip's lining up to kick him into touch.

EBearhug · 05/05/2017 23:23

Pip doesn't want to be with him anymore and this is a coward's way out of dumping him.

This - and deep down, Toby recognises it, hence the bracelet. I think he genuinely doesn't want to lose her, but it's too little too late, and he doesn't know what will work with her (as obviously jewellery isn't her thing, and he shouldn't have needed to ask Kenton anyway.) He doesn't deserve much, but Pip should just be honest with him, particularly as she is apparently trying to do penance for her sins, or whatever.

Eastpoint · 06/05/2017 04:48

@echt The Snells and Grundys both run B&Bs whereas Rickyard used to be rented as self-catering. The cottages Jennifer & Brian gave to Kate & Alice used to be holiday rentals.

Has Toby got his own car? I wonder how Rex will feel about him moving back in with Bert.

HomityBabbityPie · 06/05/2017 06:03

God Pip is horrible.

BertrandRussell · 06/05/2017 07:46

Toby's quite posh isn't he? Why would he buy a Pandora bracelet?

EsmesBees · 06/05/2017 07:55

I was thinking the same Ceto. If she doesn't get a move on they will struggle to get the cottage ready for peak season. It's not just the painting the walls Pip mentioned, surely they need to furnish it, sort out advertising, get the insurance changed etc.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/05/2017 08:16

they will struggle to get the cottage ready for peak season.

In real world yes but Pip is NewDeavid so magically it will be cleaned, decorated and the money found to restock white goods/sundries. By the end of the season half the debts will be paid and GoldenChild will be back on her pedestal.

Every stupid and nasty thing Deavid did at this age ended up being glossed over and blamed on someone else as well.

Meh.

glamorousgrandmother · 06/05/2017 08:36

So, they put the two horses in the same field and they attacked each other. So then they put them in different fields, and somehow one of them got back into the other field, and now they're friends? What exactly was the point of this convoluted turn of events? confused
Thanks for this neat summing up. I was going to have to find time to LA but now I won't have to. Smile

Halsall · 06/05/2017 08:50

Toby's quite posh isn't he? Why would he buy a Pandora bracelet?

He strikes me as also being irredeemably lazy and unimaginative, Bertrand. Pandora bracelets are exactly the sort of thing he would buy, because he wouldn't be arsed to put any effort into thinking of something tailored to Pip's actual personality (though God knows what that would be).

He and Pip deserve each other really, although I agree she's giving him the heave-ho, albeit in typically weaselly fashion.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 06/05/2017 10:17

Seeing as Pip only got together in an official capacity with Tobes to antagonise Jill, she is behaving in typical Pip fashion in taking the easy way out of finishing things with him. She really doesn't have many saving graces!
