Thanks for thread number 77, pseudo, in the week we reach the 4th anniversary of you starting these threads.

We'll reach the 75,000th post before this thread has finished.

This is an interesting dynamic re lil/ Justin/ Matt
Matt was a villain but Lill loved him and he seemed to love her. He had a few redeeming features and definitely added to variety of life in Ambridge.
Justin's character seems to have veered away from ruthless businessman and also loves Lillian. We are not yet convinced of her feelings for him but Matt treated her terribly and although Justin is an adulterer and thus a liar he has prioritised Lillian.
She has lost some self confidence in her dealings with both men( and Paul) and is living with her sister and no longer'lady if the manor' ... which choice ... if either( my preferred option at the mo) will she make.
I like her and don't want her to settle.

R4, I had very strong suspicions from the spoiler thread that Matt might be about to return, but it wasn't more than that. I wouldn't in any case dare mention any of the spoiler info over here for fear of what Olivia would do!

I think we know now how Kirsty is going to invest Peggy's money - it will indeed be the foundation of her honey-based goods empire.

It's interesting that Huge Canoe went down the line of a simple "I must have been temporarily mad" explanation from Matt rather that what SOC undoubtedly had in mind, i.e. something tediously ridiculous involving the Russian mafia.

She should go for a living together apart approach, rather than becoming a wifey. I would like to hear mature people having a few more health discussions, as seems to happen with normal people who aren't looked after by the Ambridge health fairy. Some one should have had a new hip by now.

When I'm 70 I hope I won't be in a position of having lost all my wealth to the person I thought was my partner for life; and being attracted to someone else simply because they are offering me what is wffectively a pension.

With Matt you can't believe what he says, so "breakdown" could cover for anything - as Lillian knows.

And my reaction to him saying she and Justin made "a fine looking couple" was that he wants her back but is going to play a long game.

Given their ages I'm sure Lillian can just pick the one that's still alive in a year or two

Justin character is becoming pathetic - amazing how in all the time he's been in he's never actually had a character

Lovely new thread. Thanks Pseudo. I was amazed to read it's only 4 years since the start of these threads. I wasn't in at the beginnning but I'd have guessed I'd been here about 4 years. I bow to ddd's superior knowledge on this though.

One of my good memories of Matt was the kindness he showed to Peggy the morning she had her stroke. He was kind to her and looked after Jeck whose dementia was pretty severe by the, till the 'children' could get there.

But ultimately he and Justin and Lil are adulterers and liars. Matt and probably Justin are crooks. Lil is a serial marriage breaker, I think. Wasn't Matt with Lilian before he'd left Yvette? We listen for entertainment and the dreadful threesome is certainly interesting even if they aren't likeable.

Oh and Phil got new hips. I agree though the portrayal of elderliness is fairly tame. Apart from Jill's cataracts and joe's lungs, I can't think there's been much in the current era.

I slightly misspoke: the 4th anniversary of these threads is 24th April.

I agree , I see very little difference between Matt and Rob, the fact that Matt does it in plain sight doesn't make him a better man.
