If josh is meant to be off to uni this autumn, I'm a bit surprised not to have heard anything about it. Does he have a deferred place somewhere? But even if he has, and assuming its local and he will live at home, he needs to apply for his loans. (Ok, so maybe this line of thought is exclusive to those of us who currently have a yr 13Grin)

I thought Alan's little chat was OK - no magic bullet, just a nudge to stop whinging and do something positive to help.

How big is Rickyard? Maybe she could eject Toby (surely she must know by now he's a waste of time and space) and get a paying lodger?

BOOP for Nic. Though I think Hugh may be responding to the accusations of ... er, I've forgotten the acronym for all the SWs being misogynists... by making Will a very overt example.

Imbroglio · 03/05/2017 13:03

Josh has a deferred place but said to someone that he has no intention of going - he wants to go into business. The latest turn of events will probably make David and Ruth more sympathetic to him staying on the farm even if they can't pay much.

EBearhug · 03/05/2017 13:15

Why doesn't Tobeee get a job at the chicken factory?

Because the one bit of paid work he does have is in the Bull, the timings of which probably doesn't quite work with night shifts - they'd overlap.

Imbroglio · 03/05/2017 13:17

Also I think Tobee would be find it too boring/beneath him.

EBearhug · 03/05/2017 13:22

Maybe she could eject Toby (surely she must know by now he's a waste of time and space) and get a paying lodger?

She needs to be open with Toby, and sit down and tell him that it's not working out and he has a month to find somewhere else to live, and they need to sort out a payment plan for the loan, even if it's just £50 a month or something. Except what she is doing is being all mope and useless and saying she hasn't got the heads pace for anything. As much as Toby is a waste of space, and should go, he really can't be expected to read her mind (and nor can anyone else, but she just won't actually talk about any problems with the people she needs to talk to about them, so she deserves all she gets. Except she doesn't get what she deserves.)

ErrolTheDragon · 03/05/2017 13:41

Pip won't have anything in writing about the 'loan', will she? So if she chucks Toby, is there any way she can actually insist on getting it repaid?

Minimammoth · 03/05/2017 15:36

I have been told off for not posting( well not really but I thought I'd better get on here before a new thread appears). Can't Toby go back to Brighton for some summer work.

Cromwell1536 · 03/05/2017 16:12

Well, yes, he could work in the chicken factory, or drive a cab, or go back to Brighton for summer work. There are any number of things he could do to earn extra money and repay Pip faster. But he won't do any of those because (so far) he's been written as a lazy sod with ideas of himself as a gifted entrepreneur. And now that Kenton is backing his gin idea, he's going to be even more entrenched in that self-image. Plus, he won't be able to pay her back even at a snail's-pace if he has to move out of his rent-free billet at Rickyard. So Pip may just be stuck with him.

I think that's a bit unfair - the character of Toby Fairbrother would think it was beneath him. Actually, he wouldn't think of it at all.

BertrandRussell · 03/05/2017 17:27

Is Brighton over then? Was that garbage the truth?

And do we know how much K and J have lent Toby?

elephantoverthehill · 03/05/2017 19:19

Ah, not a Bartleby replacement but a friend to help a depressed Bartleby.

Eastpoint · 04/05/2017 07:12

I wonder whether Kenton & Jolene have signed an agreement with Toby? Is their backing Toby going to cause ructions between David & Kenton? (As mentioned by someone up thread).

Minimammoth · 04/05/2017 08:39

Is he going to be asked to work for the Dopeys in loue of rent?

Minimammoth · 04/05/2017 08:41

Lieu, that is although loue could be a new invention to go with the gin.

Gruach · 04/05/2017 14:14

This business of getting Joe out of the room - it's nonsense! Even Eddie would be on a mobile phone so he could just have gone out to speak to Shula.

Travelledtheworld · 04/05/2017 19:13

Ahh, it all ended well for the two ponies then
And when Eddie started asking about the hunt kennels I just assumed they were going to ship Bartleby off... (sorry, nasty).

R4 · 04/05/2017 19:33

Electric fence not switched on ... Gem found a way through a hedge ...
Is she going to trample the pretendy-SSSI

Imbroglio · 04/05/2017 19:34

I don't understand why they didn't put them in separate fields in the first place. A bit of squealing and nipping was entirely to be expected.

Gherkinsmummy · 05/05/2017 14:17

Aren't Alastair and Shula supposed to know something about horses? No one just sticks two strange ponies on a field. You put the new one in the next field do they get to know each other.

Gherkinsmummy · 05/05/2017 14:18

So

DadDadDad · 05/05/2017 14:40

So, they put the two horses in the same field and they attacked each other. So then they put them in different fields, and somehow one of them got back into the other field, and now they're friends? What exactly was the point of this convoluted turn of events? Confused

LeninaCrowne · 05/05/2017 14:59

Makes a bleedin' change from the FagAsh and Justin romancing

Iwantacampervan · 05/05/2017 15:44

Shula (Judy Bennett) is in the Radio 4 Extra detective drama 'Orphans in Waiting', first broadcast 1990 - part 2 today. She's playing a young boy - unmistakably her though.
