'Ello pusscat!
I am eagerly anticipating Pip's downfall.

The scenes with Pip and Alice made me think that Pip was underacting for a change. Hmm

Perhaps Chris's kindness was waking Pip up to Toby's selfishness. We don't hear Toby making her sandwiches.

newtlover · 27/04/2017 20:47

yes, it was very 'compare and contrast' wasn't it

echt · 27/04/2017 21:57

The voices are doing my nut in. Alice's "Soreeeeeee"+ is this meant to be the local accent? Like Toebeee?

Anyroadup Chris's accent was all over the shop; all Will at first, then for a moment I thought Toebee had popped over. Quaite posh. Then something in-between for the rest of it.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/04/2017 22:23

Alice only exists to make Pip sound slightly less annoying.

How stupid is Pip? There is no way Alice won't let this slip.

EBearhug · 28/04/2017 01:12

I can't understand why Justin was ever under any illusion that Miranda would just let the divorce go through without a murmur.

EBearhug · 28/04/2017 01:15

Mine can do that, depending on who I'm talking to, and what I'm talking about, and it can happen in the middle of a conversation, quite often punctuated by people pointing out I've gone really Dorset.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/04/2017 01:58

I know. The storyline has been set up to portray Miranda as nasty, selfish and spiteful (not that she hasn't had provocation) so why on earth after having been publicly humiliated should she behave out of character?

Even if she were lovely she is still entitled to what she's entitled- why should she not take it? And really one would have to be a saint just to roll over after the way she has been treated.

BertrandRussell · 28/04/2017 08:25

I'm still Team Miranda. Especially after last night.

Cromwell1536 · 28/04/2017 08:40

What are the rights of spouses in divorces where there are no children to maintain? would Miranda have to show that she built up the business with Justin and her work was absolutely material to its success? A friend of mine built up a business with her spouse and, as part of the divorce settlement, demonstrated a whole lot of paper trails showing meetings and leads converting to sales and was able to put a figure on contribution to turnover as well as being able to price her services in terms of what the business would have had to pay to employ a marketing executive in her role. Justin may or may not be wrong about the extent and value of Miranda's contribution, but won't they each be obliged to provide hard evidence for a judge to evaluate?

Mind you, the programme is always vague on financial details, so I suspect this will be similarly so. And that Justin will have heart attack/nasty road accident before it gets to that point.

Well, Alice is going to be in a proper pickle isn't she? How ridiculous is Pip.

ppeatfruit · 28/04/2017 08:46

I'm not team any of them. How long were they married? If there was no issue from the marriage is she really entitled to half? Did Miranda actually wallpaper the London and Dower houses herself?

BertrandRussell · 28/04/2017 09:03

I'm Team Miranda because Lillian and Justin treated her like shit. And continue to do so.

redshoeblueshoe · 28/04/2017 09:20

I'm Team Miranda too

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/04/2017 09:34

At a personal level I find all three repellent. Justin alleged that she had also had numerous affairs. I think he said that she had always turned a blind eye to his infidelity but on this occasion she thought that he was getting too serious about Lilian. Now, it's possible that Miranda would say this is all lies and she was 100% faithful and had simply reached breaking point on Justin's womanising. However, if there's any truth* in Justin's account, I'd say they're all in the mud together.

How I would love it, though, if Miranda and her SHL (says the inveterate Relationships board lurker) managed to produce the sort of evidence Cromwell's friend had and got 50% of everything. Like the rest of you, I'm incredulous that Justin hadn't considered this a possibility. They seem to have been married a long time and he must surely know other men who've gone through a messy divorce and ended up very much poorer.

*I do know it's all a story. Really. In spite of all the evidence to the contrary in my posting history ...

birdsdestiny · 28/04/2017 09:34

Me too. Lillians taste in men is appalling.

Ceto · 28/04/2017 09:50

There is no way Alice is not going to let Pip's little secret drop with her parents, is there? Maybe under the guise of "Don't be so mean, Pip feels awful about it." Then there will be something else for Pip to whinge about.

When Usha told Ruth that she might as well let Pip stew for a few more days before considering forgiving her, I had a horrid presentiment that Pip is going to go under one of the speeding cars
(without dying of course, we're never getting rid of her that easily) and we're going to have days of Ruth wailing that she should never have been so mean to her.

Abraiid2 · 28/04/2017 10:05

Matt is playing a long game here, perhaps, waiting for it all to blow up.

Vango · 28/04/2017 10:13

I love Alice and Chris. So lovely to hear a happy couple enjoying each other's company and happily married. Makes a pleasant change from all the other angsty relationships that have become the norm of late.

I couldn't care less about Justin and Miranda's divorce.

redshoeblueshoe · 28/04/2017 10:24

Abraid - absolutely.

MrsArthurShappey · 28/04/2017 10:35

I love Alice and Chris too, which is what makes the Alice actor all the more annoying. She sounds so affected, completely overacts and constantly sounds like she's orgasming. And I'm not keen on yokel Chris, although it wouldn't make sense for him not to have an accent (the old Chris didn't, particularly, did he?).

I can't bear Justin, there's nothing redeeming about his character at all is there? He's like a child sulking when things don't go his way. A bit like Pip in some ways.

MrsArthurShappey · 28/04/2017 10:37

And you could hear Pip thinking 'this is the kind of relationship I deserve', whereas I think she has exactly the kind of relationship she deserves!

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/04/2017 11:05

Mystic Boreâ„¢ predicts that Matt will end up owning Damara.

Cromwell1536 · 28/04/2017 11:30

Ooh, yes, Mystic! And copping off with Miranda, who decides that a bit of WideBoy is just what she needs after Justin and those flim-flammy ski instructors.

Justin and FagAsh both being rather unpleasant and I really don't understand Jenny not looking remotely askance at Lillian's triumphalism, given the history of her own marriage and how she's had to repel boarders at various points. But Miranda is pretty awful herself - marriage of feather-bedded financial convenience (unless she has been an equal powerhouse in the business) with consolatory affairs along the way. Why hold her up as the heroine in the piece? None of them seem particularly worthy - more examples of how the supposedly functional adults in TA can cock up mightily.

BertrandRussell · 28/04/2017 11:35

"Why hold her up as the heroine in the piece?"

Well, not a heroine. But we have no evidence of her affairs except what Justin says. J and L treated her like shit. And she was the victim of some utterly ridiculous "let's laugh at what we think posh people are like" writing ...........

Cromwell1536 · 28/04/2017 12:04

Well, since all the characters are bodies of signs, they are nothing but the writing of them! I don't think we can posit a Miranda, or a Pip, or a Jill that is other than what is written and say, "oh, actually, no - Pip is a paragon of honesty, Jill has no interest in domestic arts and Miranda is a down-to-earth lass with no trace of condescension about her.' Miranda's not a victim of the writing, she is it!
