I do hope we're going to have the scene where Knob goes to register Gideon only to discover he's already registered as Ian Adam.

LyndaNotLinda · 22/05/2016 22:46

When I registered DS's birth, it was the first time I'd ever breastfed in public. Huge anxiety! That's all I remember really :o

EasyToEatTiger · 22/05/2016 23:12

I'm glad I'm following this thread but not listening! Re breastfeeding, I thought when my babies were babies that people would prefer that they were quieter than screaming with hunger. Perhaps I have no shameHmm. When I work with my dogs I focus on them and their behaviour and not on the surroundings. I have to be in control in a given situation. Other people may think differently. PND alert. I think already that Helen is suffering from PTSD. Undiagnosed of course. She is set for possible Post Partum Psychosis. Which has nothing whatsoever to do with her character. I will follow on here. Listening is far, far, far too tiresome and I have enough of this in Real Life.

Babies have to be registered at the Registry Office in the area where they are born. I know this because Romesh Ranganathan has an anecdote about his son being born while he was doing the Edinburgh Festival, and they took the baby home unregistered and he had to make a flying trip up to Edinburgh to register him and clashing with the referrndum celebrations.

So Rob will have to know where the mother and baby unit is and go there. I imagine the registrar will go to Helen because she can't go out to him.

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/05/2016 23:58

SOK must be named Jack, in honour of both of Piggoi's husbands.

AugustaFinkNottle · 22/05/2016 23:58

I did enjoy Kirsty taking Ursula on. Abusive types trade on people being too polite to call them out, so it's hugely enjoyable when someone is prepared to wade in. I bet Kirsty could wind Knob up into giving himself away.

Sinkingfeeling · 23/05/2016 00:39

Either a married mother or father can register a baby on their own in England and Wales. They have to be able to state the baby's date and place of birth, and confirm that they are they the natural mother/father of the child and were married to the child's natural mother/father at the time of the birth, but no other evidence is legally required. The details given by the informant are linked by the registrar to the the baby's NHS records.

CuttedUpPear · 23/05/2016 06:26

Wtf has this dropped off my TIO?

As you were. ..

ArgyMargy · 23/05/2016 07:42

Are you on iPad/phone Cutted? You have to comment regularly to stay in TIO.

Surely Gideon would end up being shortened to Giddy? Poor child, as if he hasn't got trouble enough.

RockNRollNerd · 23/05/2016 08:32

You can register the birth in a different area, or you used to be able to. Our nearest hospital is in a different county so the babies are born in one place and then registered generally when you get home in a different area. Don't get me started on the fact that means that due to the way PCTs or whatever work all our antenatal and postnatal is done by midwives from our county but when you go in to have the baby it is the ones from the hospital PCT or whatever they are called nowadays. I was always a bit Hmm at people who would panic when they found out their midwife might be on holiday on their due date, I always knew the baby would be delivered by people I'd never met before and would never see again.

redshoeblueshoe · 23/05/2016 09:27

As soon as Knob said Gideon I thought SOC had been reading too much Private Eye.
My GS was transferred to a different city for surgery at a few days old, so DD had to come back to the city where he was born to register him then there was a train strike so she couldn't get back the same day, but none of us wailed

BrienneAndTormund · 23/05/2016 09:28

Can Helen prevent him from registering the birth? Maybe she can do it remotely. Babies are born in prison to unmarried women regularly, there must be facility for her to register him.

BoffinMum · 23/05/2016 09:35

DD1 was born in one London borough and registered in an entirely different one, so you don't have to do this in the area where a child is born.

ppeatfruit · 23/05/2016 09:37

I did say it'd be a boy Wips or a girl with a penis Grin Poor little Gideon. Sad Well the birth was a cheap scene wasn't it? No MW or Tony . Peggy's shaping up nicely though.

redshoeblueshoe · 23/05/2016 09:39

I think Helen should call him Tyrion Lannister Archer (for those of you who don't watch Game of Thrones, Tyrion killed his father)

Routenationale · 23/05/2016 09:41

When you register the baby, the baby has to be with you. So only Helen will be able to register him.
Knob has got hold of Henry so that he can use him as a bargaining chip to get hold of Gideon. Likely it will end up with Helen having Henry and Knob having Gideon.

LillianGish · 23/05/2016 09:45

Helen didn't seem to be showing that much interest in the baby - I bet she hasn't got a name ready to get in before Knob (her lack of interest is mirroring my own lack of interest in this storyline). At least Peggy is back in character (rather than disapproving of children having soft toys) though her return to form has coincided with Pat losing all sense of herself (the moaning about her having let Helen down didn't work at all for me because it just wouldn't have happened in the first place if she hadn't been forced to undergo a complete character transplant). Knob and Arsula have now completely dropped the charm offensive so presumably he is going to give himself away - and finally perhaps everyone else in the village (Shula, Jim, Ian, Johnny, who have I forgotten?) will remember what an knob he really is.

LyndaNotLinda · 23/05/2016 09:49

No, the baby doesn't have to be with you.

But I hope Helen gets in first before Knob does. I suspect though that Helen will want nothing to do with the baby and it will all play out as I predicted many moons ago - she will agree to give Rob Gideon in return for him fucking off out of her and Henry's lives.

And Pat n Tone will have yet another grandchild estranged from their family and rocking up in 20 years time with an innate enthusiasm for pigs. Or cheese in this case.

EasyToEatTiger · 23/05/2016 09:57

There's no great hurry to register a birth. You have 6 weeks. And you need a name for the baby. That's another potential 6 weeks of handwringing and pain. Joy oh joy!

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/05/2016 10:04

Yup poor Gideon Balonz
He has got At last my son (I own you) for a dad.
And Oh god my son (I never really wanted you) for a mum.

I predict though they will play her realising she does love the baby quite ferociously now he is here but also with PP psychosis.

It's going to be grim wailing for a while now.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/05/2016 10:07

On another messageboard someone has pointed out that Gideon Robert Titchener shortens nicely to...

GRoT

Grin
Lancelottie · 23/05/2016 10:10

Giddy Tit is not at all setting him up for a lifetime of teasing at school.

Definitely not.

Avoiding that sort of name would be quite pointless as children will always find something to tease about. Yup.

mummytime · 23/05/2016 10:22

You can change the names in the first year though.

redshoeblueshoe · 23/05/2016 10:37

Giddy Tit Grin

BYOSnowman · 23/05/2016 11:35

Piling pp psychosis or pnd onto Helen would be too many issues given she is in prison for attempted murder.

It's also too close to EE who just did the pp psychosis.

Also, if they are going down the pp psychosis or pnd route I think it would be much more interesting in Alice.
