Chocolate Chip cookie anyone?

OP posts:

can anyone explain why Jill has to move out to make room for Ruth's mum.

No. We are all as bemused as you.
Brookfield is also currently housing a flooded-out Bert.
They haven't moved Jill out to make room for HP and Bert to become An Item, have they?

Gruach Wed 19-Aug-15 06:30:47 Your comments hit the nail on the head for me- this is what I feel without the wit to express it as well as you have! Thank you for your astuteness Smile

IndridCold · 23/08/2015 17:13

Is Bert in the house then? I thought he was in Rickyard Cottage. Anyway, didn't he and Freda have their own bungalow on the farm? Was it flooded? In which case surely he can move back there in the near future when it's fixed up.

Re Dan, I am old have a vague memory of him living with the family at the end, although I thought he had lived in Glebe Cottage before that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/08/2015 18:40

Hello all, back from a few days away and have now caught up with TA, so naturally my thoughts turned to this thread. My, you've all been busy and on scintillating form!

I agree utterly with Bertrand Russell (words I never thought I would type, no. 1982 Grin) about the creepiness of Brian and Debbie - knocks David and Pip into a cocked hat! She was more upset about his affair with Siobhan than her own husband's affair!

Bert's bungalow was hard hit by the flood and isn't ready for occupation yet but he is working on the garden.

Can't remember where Dan lived at the end of his life. I was a very new listener then (although like so many of the rest of us I had been inured to it because it was often on in the background when I was growing up). I'm a bit confused about how Dan and Doris died. Did Shula find Doris dead in her chair at Glebe? This is a bit dodgy, given that Doris left Glebe to Shula. Grin Then I think Dan may have died after trying to lift up a sheep at Elizabeth's suggestion, although I don't believe Elizabeth benefited financially from Dan's death. David was responsible for Clarrie's father's death (Jethro Grundy) after cutting off a tree branch which fell on Jethro's head. This may have saved tiresome and lengthy negotations trying to get Jethro to retire. [Yes, I am off into the realms of fantasy now.]

If this is right, Kenton is the only sibling who hasn't got a death on his conscience, isn't he? David has two*, given that he encouraged Nigel to go onto the roof, and so (arguably) has Shula, because she was on the phone to Mark while he was driving home the night he crashed into a tree.

So good to be back!

*and that's not counting the badger

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2015 18:46

I must listen more closely to David and Pip. My dad spends a lot of time telling me how to live my life, and Dp is involved in a family business- maybe my experience has skewed my interpretation!

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2015 18:57

Dd, not dad. He did too- but hardly relevant.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 23/08/2015 19:00

I wasn't listening much when Pip Badger arrived so I missed the accent swoops but from my recent listening I actually rather like her. I enjoyed her chat with Jill as they collected eggs & I also haven't found her conversations with David particularly creepy Confused

Kenton though - Jesus - I want to punch him!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/08/2015 19:04

My daughter too, Bertrand! She was patiently explaining earlier that I should take more time and work harder at being logical. Grin

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 23/08/2015 19:04

Bertrand, similar here - I have 2 bossy thoughtful daughters (a bit older than Pip) & I know they have taken a similar line with both blinkered parents Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/08/2015 19:08

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rob has deliberately arranged the interior designer's visit for a time when Helen can't go?

Come on, Tom, man up and confront him!

elephantoverthehill · 23/08/2015 19:26

Knob is really being ...........well Robbish. I liked the line about slow down I can't keep up.

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2015 19:29

I do wonder whether the people who think the David/Pip relationship is creepy are the ones who think David can do no right...........I quite like David. He's a very flawed person- but I think he's a well rounded character.

I do hope Tom is going to say no to Rob "standing in" for Helen. And did you notice the "and your father didn't say anything about it" about the sledging? That's the first little wedge in there.

EBearhug · 23/08/2015 19:45

Does Tom know that Helen's not going to be there, and Rob will be there in his place? I got the impression Helen and Rob had just decided it, without actually mentioning it to anyone else, till Pat mentioned it.

Kenton is going to go off on one when he discovers Dave is turning out his own Mum for his own selfish needs. It's going to be so tedious.

Did people have mobile phones, back when Mark died? Hmm, 1994. Maybe so.

Dan definitely died up Lakey Hill with Elizabeth there. Don't remember any more than that, though I have heard the clip in more recent years. It doesn't get played quite as much as Grace in the stables, but not so far behind...

enochroot · 23/08/2015 19:51

Who is actually captain of the cricket team?
Oh, they'd used their quota of speaking roles, hadn't they?

Was Rob angry because Charlie was right and he had played rashly? Or is he just a really bad loser? Or had the sledging got to him? I wonder what the Darrington team were saying to him........

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/08/2015 20:03

It was a carphone, Bearhug.

I'm not sure if the captain is Alistair or Adam, enoch. They both have some leading role.

Rob used that tactic he often uses now - he tells Helen that somebody else was doing something nasty and she gets all indignant on his behalf, but we've heard with our own ears earlier that he was the one doing the nasty thing! Eventually somebody will hear him doing it and put the record straight and it can't come soon enough for me!

toldmywrath · 23/08/2015 20:06

Sorry BertrandRussell I do wonder whether the people who think the David/Pip relationship is creepy are the ones who think David can do no right...........I quite like David. But I like David & that is not what creeps me out-it sounds like they (NewPeep & Dave) are a couple when they're talking.

toldmywrath · 23/08/2015 20:08

But were Darrington cricketers really sledging Knob? Did we hear anything? (I missed the first few minutes)He could be making it up.

enochroot · 23/08/2015 20:13

Yes, you're right. He was doing the sledging and Charlie pulled him up for it. He turns it round to make himself look like the victim of it.
Typical of a bully.

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2015 20:13

I don't think Darrington were sledging at all. But Rob will make Helen think that her father as umpire did nothing about it. And he will let slip something about it questioning his sexuality- there'll be something about that being pRt of the problem at Barrow with Charlie. And that'll be another wedge between Adam and Ian and Helen..........

Gruach · 23/08/2015 20:14

Nice to have you back Gasp0.

'94? I was commuting from Wiltshire to London back then. Sometimes it seemed as if I was the only one on the train without a mobile. Envy

Is Tom captain? Seem to recall him being very busy about cricket business lately.

I hope we'll soon find out that Rob "persuaded" Helen to cede her place at the meeting in his favour.

toldmywrath Blush Thanks. Mornings take me that way sometimes.

NotdeadyetBOING · 23/08/2015 20:44

Mighty weird crying from Jill…..

toldmywrath · 23/08/2015 20:50

Haha Gruach I hadn't noticed the time on your post( c&p) but I'm at my most productive first thing as well (doing accounts etc)

Bertrand you make a good point with the sledging incident!

NotdeadyetBOING · 23/08/2015 21:21

I reckon they are working up to Kenton trying to top himself (rather than do a bunk).

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2015 21:33

If he does, it'll only be a half hearted attention seeking attempt.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/08/2015 21:46

I thought that about the crying, Boing. My first impression was that she was laughing. Most odd.

Not very flattering to Jolene to be told that she's been dragged down to Kenton's level. I think I'd be tempted to remind him whose business it is he's doing his level best to destroy.
