Chocolate Chip cookie anyone?

OP posts:
selsigfach · 22/08/2015 00:44

Ah yes, where Lily apparently fancied her cousin - these Archers get creepier by the day - but we didn't actually hear Lily speak!

Icimoi · 22/08/2015 07:19

When Kenton starts whinging on about how it's not fair, Daddy didn't like me best, I wish Jolene would give him a slap and tell him to grow up and get over it. And we never did hear why he thought it was so outrageous that Jill wanted to give Pip a send-off.

Gruach · 22/08/2015 07:26

Guess he thought it was yet another elaborate ruse to get him to kiss and make up with his unfair brother.

He certainly put on a gross display of self-indulgence. And sounds very much as if he's planning to jump ship.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2015 07:43

Now he's put Jolene completly on the back foot so she'll have to be careful round him "in case he does something silly" and he can just carry on being a complete arsehole without any come back at all. Grrrrrr.

ppeatfruit · 22/08/2015 12:11

Yes Bert It's almost as if Kenton.... was trying to justify himself to J'lene for the possibility of doing a bunk, FGS he should grow up!!

What we need is someone like Hazel who takes no prisoners coming face to face with knob over the Bridge Farm shop, they'd make a grand pair Grin.

Agree about the teenagers at Brookfield. But I reckon Pheebs IS normal it's normal to rebel against your parents isn't it like Saffy?

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/08/2015 14:18

Kenton's back story goes a long way to explaining why he might not have been his father's favourite son.

I'd forgotten (if I ever knew) a lot of it Grin

ppeatfruit · 22/08/2015 14:28

He needs CBT. Grin

JustMeOverHere · 22/08/2015 14:45

I dislike Kenton even more now I've seen his photo (shallow).
He's got a very prominent Adam's apple which makes me feel ill.

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/08/2015 15:23

Oh sorry! Forgot to warn about the photo.

redshoeblueshoe · 22/08/2015 16:38

Thanks for the photo - as I've just noticed Kenton is in Misdomer Murder that's on ITV now - I hope he dies a horrific death Grin he is being a misery no typecasting then

enochroot · 22/08/2015 18:27

It looks like Kenton's left a trail of debts behind him all his adult life and is about to do the same to Jolene.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 22/08/2015 18:40

It is amazing that no one ever mentions Kenton's previous financial incompetence.

Gruach · 22/08/2015 18:40

They do ...

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 22/08/2015 18:54

On TA to his face?

I must have missed thatBlush who called him on it?

Gruach · 22/08/2015 19:07

Hah! I can't give you particular instances - might have to go back to Phil Archer's division of the spoils as the last I specifically remember. But it does come up. And it is invariably implied in the tone of voice of the rest of his family whenever he steps onto Brookfield land, volunteers a business idea, spends or doesn't spend money on his daughter. He is in permanent disgrace.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 22/08/2015 19:34

Ah. But it hasn't been mentioned since he's been wailing about being up to his eyeballs in debt. You would think now of all times they would remind him he's his own worst enemy.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2015 22:57

Considering Kenton's history and the trail of destruction he's left behind him all his life, I think his family are extraordinarily forebearing.

mollie123 · 23/08/2015 08:59

he (Kenton) spent money he did not yet have when he thought he was about to get a wodge from the sale of Brookfield (which we all know did not/' never would have' gone ahead) - wait for the money before spending it Shock
he therefore blames everyone but himself for his bad decision
what a loser (yes I know he is not a real person)
he really needs to do a flit now and stop annoying us all
have to say - about to listen to the omnibus but am aware I already have a good inkling of what is going to happen - still enjoy my Sunday morning listen though.
if Jill was 70 in 2000 - she is going well at 85 to be keeping house for the Archer family - it sounds as if HeatherP is much younger Smile

ppeatfruit · 23/08/2015 10:18

But Kenton is at last blaming himself which doesn't make it any better though does it?

BertrandRussell · 23/08/2015 11:08

Oh, he's not reall blaming himself- it's all maudlin, self indulgent bullshit. But Jolene wasn't around to know that, so she'll be completely screwed and scared to give him the kick up the backside he so richly deserves.

R4 · 23/08/2015 11:41

Jolene has been around a long time, doing her sultry man-eating songbird thing. Just ask Clarrie.
She knows village history and backstory.

toldmywrath · 23/08/2015 13:37

BertrandRussell Film listener here so I've only just caught up on this thread. Your question Can I ask- all the people saying that the David/Pip dynamic is creepy- do you have grown up children Yes I have grown children (all in their 20's) but we don't own a farm or family business. But the way they talk to one another is more like husband & wife than parent & grown daughter (in my opinion anyway Smile )

redshoeblueshoe · 23/08/2015 14:25

I agree told, my Dc's are grown up I thought that was a given if you listen to The Archers but he doesn't talk to his wife like she is an equal, that's why I find David so infuriating and creepy

IndridCold · 23/08/2015 14:26

I gave up on TA months ago, but DH was listening this morning, so can anyone explain why Jill has to move out to make room for Ruth's mum.

Phil and Jill lived at Brookfield with 4 kids, so it must be pretty large, plus Pip is about to fly the nest anyway.

Heather may well have mobility problems after her stroke as well, so it would seem to make more sense to convert a downstairs room into a bedroom for her.

If Jill moves out, Heather is going to be at home on her own most of the time, which is not ideal.

And finally, without Jill to cook for them we will be back to Frozen Pizzagate and no one bothering to relight the Aga if it goes out!

And yes, I do know I am over-invested in this Grin.

Gruach · 23/08/2015 14:35

You're right about the downstairs room Indrid - but there's no one old enough (...) around to answer my query about Dan (I think) doing the same towards the end of his life.

I found myself trying to count Brookfield's rooms this morning too. Though I hope they'll hurry up with the "moving Pip (who isn't leaving) into the goose field ruin that Jill and Phil lived in" story soon. I'm so looking forward to that.
