I can't resist alliteration Wink

OP posts:
TopazRocks · 02/08/2015 19:16

oh no, doom for Ian and Adam. Sad

LillianGish · 02/08/2015 19:19

Pat is so brilliant - managing to convey everything we needed to know in that little intake of breath. Unlike some characters who can have a whole page of script and we still can't work out who's talking so its a complete waste of breath.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/08/2015 19:19

Did we definitely hear that they were going to the cricket on Saturday? I can only assume we're meant to think it was Friday, or else they think (wrongly, I would imagine) that Archers fans are not also cricket fans.

minkGrundy · 02/08/2015 19:20

Cricket was Friday I am sure.

LillianGish · 02/08/2015 19:20

They couldn't have been at the cricket Friday because we heard them in Ambridge.

TopazRocks · 02/08/2015 19:28

But how do we know Friday wasn't Thursday in AmbridgeLand? Maybe they haven't really caught up after the flood. Smile

Northernlurker · 02/08/2015 19:35

I think it's a very bad sign for a marriage when you take somebody's advice over that of your spouse AND you don't tell your spouse that's what's being done. Poor old Ian :(

BYOSnowman · 02/08/2015 20:44

i don't think he took someone else's advice over Ian though

tbh, i wouldn't ask dh for advice on my career as he doesn't know much about it whereas lots of my friends do

i don't hear much romantic interest from adam towards charlie anymore (obv lots the other way!!)

Northernlurker · 02/08/2015 21:11

Ian said 'lets think about Hungary', Charlie said 'go for it' - Adam went straight off to Brian to go for it rather than to the travel agent for Hungary tickets!

BYOSnowman · 02/08/2015 21:23

yes but his gut was telling him to go for it and charlie agreeing (someone in the industry) strengthened his resolve.

i totally thought adam would go for it because he wants to prove brian wrong!

i also thought ian's reasoning was a bit crap - have they ever been to hungary? since when is it the land of milk and honey? is it the new canada? Or the Archers version of EE's Spain?

Gruach · 02/08/2015 21:28

In Adam's shoes I would also worry about my longer term inheritance prospects if I left. (Debbie was still working for Home Farm while in Hungary and, anyway, she's Brian's golden child ...)

minkGrundy · 02/08/2015 21:57

I am.pretty sure Charlie mentioned Friday earlier in the week. I don't think they stick to the days anymore.

BYOSnowman · 02/08/2015 22:02

cricket was definitely for the Friday as they kept mentioning it

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 02/08/2015 22:38

oh it was????

ok...

still think they might have shoehorned in a mention of the unbelievably unexpected result - especially after the Lord's result... Hmm

R4 · 02/08/2015 22:47

Ian's comments about "they had to keep explaining it" didn't really ring true. We had to skittle them out and then score more than 120. It's not that complicated even if it did take an age.
Am I allowed to say that I don't like Ian? I get hacked off with his inane giggling.

stilllearnin · 02/08/2015 22:48

I have not caught up with TA or this thread yet. But my mum on Friday night knowing full well that I was in a field sent me a text message saying 'the archers!!!' Followed by one saying 'dad is cock a hoop!!' So yes topaz he is still taken in (although I do think it's because he is too lovely to see bad in people). I shall see my dad this week and I will try to explain it all to him again (get the impression he is wilfully misunderstanding me)

R4 · 02/08/2015 22:51

Forgot to say: Rob dropped an absolute corker about the sort of wedding they wanted after Tom's effort last year .....Shock. He really is an absolute master of the put-down.

Icimoi · 02/08/2015 23:01

When Rob said that of course they wanted to let the family know first, I really wanted someone to ask when they were going to let his family know.

BYOSnowman · 02/08/2015 23:24

r4 - i'm not a huge ian fan but he has a lovely distinctive voice

all the cricket double entendres must have been weary. are they trying to turn him into graham norton?

minkGrundy · 03/08/2015 01:11

Isn is unmistakeable but I don't like him.

Scarydinosaurs · 03/08/2015 10:03

Rob was such a dick. I worry that they've included that scene of being interrupted by Henry to foreshadow a future incident of controlling sexual behaviour- Helen being made to have sex when she doesn't want to as a punishment for Henry's intrusion.

Ian was a bit irritating. They seem to be making his character more unlikeable- possibly to make Charlie seem more likeable?!

LillianGish · 03/08/2015 11:00

I don't think Ian is being made more unlikeable - it's just that Adam suddenly seems to have so much more in common with Charlie.
Just pondering - is Knob going to lose his job at Berrow Farm then muscle in on Bridge Farm (against everyone's better judgement, but too polite to say no), elbowing Hellin out of the way: "Darling you've got far too much to do at home with Henry" and then start taking shortcuts - ordering the wrong feed etc.
Also are we supposed to think that Hellin was in on the secret wedding plan (notwithstanding the fact that in RL she would have had to be in on it)? I just felt like if she had been in on it then there would have been some hint before she went on holiday.

R4 · 03/08/2015 11:14

When Peggy's tribe assembled for the BBQ, Debbie made some comment about which of the two - Adam or Helen - was balking more about actually getting round to getting married. Helen didn't do her usual where Rob is involved (i.e. make excuses) but made some evasive non-comment.

I'm doubting myself now. Is that right: Adam and Ian are in a CP but want to convert to a marriage?

Gruach · 03/08/2015 11:22

Yes, that's right.

choccyp1g · 03/08/2015 12:54

Yet again I think the SL are playing with the rules... The first time we beard them after IoW Rob was saying "NOW you know why I wanted you all to myself", as if the -wedding- marriage was a surprise to Helen. Then they realise they messed up so insert Helen airily claiming she knew in advance.

They'll probably do something similar next week with the test match that was all over before the audience arrived.
