I can't resist alliteration Wink

For all the character is utterly vile, I think the chap playing Rob is extremely good - he can make a single sentence (like the one to Henry about being his daddy) sound utterly chilling and not overacted. Pretty impressive stuff given he's got no facial expressions or physical gestures to help convey that.

Oh - just realised way way back someone asked what the Avengers and Sainsbury's thing was - it's not the supermarket, it's the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich scva.ac.uk/ - they used it for the final scenes at the Avengers HQ. It's a pretty amazing arts place, just somewhere that you tended to overdose on a bit if you were at school locally.

Did Hellin claim she knew in advance? I missed that but probably fell asleep.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/08/2015 19:13

Orvieto?! Shock

BYOSnowman · 03/08/2015 19:15

who is texting rob so much? has hellin really gone nuts and super clingy? the whole mr and mrs titchener thing is creepy too (how is that 'cute'?). At least he seems keen for a joint account

how did they get henry to make such an irritating noise? i would have banished him to the garden the first time he made it

rob is on his way down....

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/08/2015 19:19

I'm not a wine buff - what's wrong with Orvieto?

I think it was Helen texting all the time. Primed by our endless discussions here, I was confidently expecting Rob to take a swing at either Henry or Helen tonight after that talk with Charlie. Hmm

BitOutOfPractice · 03/08/2015 19:26

Dunno, it's a bit...90s I think.

Last week Ian and Adam were drinking Chablis I think - much better suited to their characters

If I were the SW I'd have said prosecco. More celebratory and zeitgeist

BitOutOfPractice · 03/08/2015 19:29

BYOS oh I dunno. I think every newy married couple does the slightly sickening thing where they call each other Mr and Mrs for a few weeks don't they?

BYOSnowman · 03/08/2015 19:31

maybe i am projecting - i had residual sadness at leaving my maiden name behind.

minkGrundy · 03/08/2015 19:33

Of course he wants a joint account...with ten grand on it

BYOSnowman · 03/08/2015 19:41

rather than saying they would sort it out i thought he would say - don't worry darling - let's put it in my account - you trust me don't you...

Madamacadamia · 03/08/2015 19:45

Hellin won't know about joint bank account rules, so Rob can still get his hands on the lot.

BertrandRussell · 03/08/2015 19:49

I'll put money on there never being a joint bank account. Straight into Rob's that's going- and there will be excuse after excuse about why Helen can't get her hands on it until he leaves.

TeenAndTween · 03/08/2015 21:58

I think maybe Helen just said she knew in advance to save face, because it would sound bad if she said it wasn't 100% her idea.

Also, I think they'll have to have a joint account, as I don't think you can present a cheque in joint names to an account in just one of the names.

minkGrundy · 03/08/2015 22:01

She sais about the banns though. So I suspect it was always in plot.
However, that is a bit out of character for H because she has to be both neurotic overthinker about everrything and also a bit cat who got the cream smug.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2015 22:34

I expect it will go into a joint account but then rob will move it into a savings account in his name or somesuch. Urgh, you could practically hear him salivating as he did his 'it's too much' ( knowing full well Peggy would insist Hmm). The only time he sounded genuine in the episode was when he snarled at Henry but I agree it's very well played.

He's out of his depth with Charlie though - if I was Charlie I'd be very careful and stay well away from the slurry pit.

BertrandRussell · 03/08/2015 22:39

"I don't think you can present a cheque in joint names to an account in just one of the names"
Yes you can!

R4 · 04/08/2015 09:12

Oh no you can't! (unless the cheque is uncrossed, which not many are these days)

Here are HSBC's t&c, for example:
"If you want to pay in a cheque or other item that has been made payable to someone else, that person must sign it on the back. We may ask for further details before we agree to accept it.
If a cheque or other item is marked on the front ‘not transferable’ or ‘account payee’, we can only accept it for the person it is made payable to. The only exception to this is a joint account. We will accept a cheque or other item made payable to any one of you.
However, a cheque or other item made payable to joint names cannot be paid into a sole account."

So you can put a cheque in a single name in a joint account but you can't put a cheque in a joint name in a single account.

R4 · 04/08/2015 09:16

And I know that the banks follow through because we had just such a case the other day: we issued a joint-name cheque and the bank refused to accept it into the sole account of the DH.

enochroot · 04/08/2015 09:47

Note the snide way he mentioned all the other family members who now stand to benefit from Peggy's revised will!

Charlie's certainly rattled him. Have I mentioned before that I like Charlie? Grin

stilllearnin · 04/08/2015 11:16

enoch I hope you don't mind me asking but I just need to know how you feel about Charlie. Do you like him?

Crosbybeach · 04/08/2015 11:26

Hi, I lurk here a lot, but haven't posted before. Hello!

I'm just really confused about Helen's marriage, do people think she was really keeping it quiet for 4 weeks! It all seems so unlikely....

But I do like the way Rob is being potrayed, it's so much more subtle than just pantomime villian.

Gruach · 04/08/2015 11:35

Hello! Massive for your lovely name - one of my favourite places.

As choccyp1g suggested above I think they messed up. I guess this is what happens when you have so many different writers on a rota - a single rogue sentence can make nonsense of a story.

R4 · 04/08/2015 11:46

I think Helen was fully engaged in the planning (see what I did thereGrin).
Rob can manipulate her into accepting to anything - even agreeing that it was best with 'just the two of us' at the wedding/honeymoon i.e. even Henry is outside the circle.Shock

Rjae · 04/08/2015 16:57

Hellins pregnancy will be the next bombshell. Mark my words. She is so going to get sucked into his clutches.

Gruach · 04/08/2015 17:01

Won't be a bombshell now she's married ...

Will be far more interesting if she stands up to Rob and refuses to tie herself down with another child because she's too busy with the new shop. That could easily lead him into even more devilish behaviour.
