Won't someone please give Kenton a kick in the FA Cup Finals, and a link to Money Saving Expert?

Thinking about it Mike's future does look rather bleak. Vicky's going back to work isn't she? So he'll be a retired SAH dad to Bethany. Who must be about to start school. So then he'll be retired, in Birmingham, away from all his friends and alone for most of the day.

Perhaps Joe will give him a ferret as a leaving present.

ZeroFunDame · 09/06/2015 09:00

(Not suggesting that retired life in Birmingham must be awful - it's just not at all the life someone like Mike would choose for himself.)

R4 · 09/06/2015 09:43

Perhaps it's yet another compare & contrast. Look at Moike's retirement - planning and actively shaping a new life - compared to Christine's - defeatedly slumped in an armchair in a Home.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2015 09:49

Even in Birmingham there will be little nature reserves somewhere around, won't there - I'm thinking Mike could make himself very useful volunteering to chop sycamore and rhodedendron and that sort of thing.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/06/2015 09:58

"Even in Birmingham" Grin

JessieMcJessie · 09/06/2015 10:08

Moike is 20 years younger than Christine I think...

R4 · 09/06/2015 10:11

I was just about to harrumph at "even in Birmingham"!
We have plenty of nature reserves, big and small. Woodgate Valley, Moseley Bog, Barr Beacon, Hill Hook, Lickey Hills, etc.
If you fly into Birmingham airport you can hardly see the city for its covering of trees. We have, supposedly, more trees than Paris (and, definitely, more canals than Venice).

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2015 10:16

The 'even' was relative to Ambridge - for the benefit of lurking SWs. Grin I spent 6 years in Brum as a student, my now-DH did conservation volunteering in which the aforementioned sycamore and rhodo culls figured large. Just the job for a man with a selection of chainsaws.

mummytime · 09/06/2015 10:21

But Vicky isn't going to let him keep his chainsaws or other tools is she?

ZeroFunDame · 09/06/2015 10:27

To be fair Christine wouldn't be wrong to feel somewhat defeated by circumstances. She's around 84 and this is the second time, since she retired from the Stables, that she's seen her home destroyed.

I just don't see why the SWs can't give her a fabulous holiday - a month across Europe with Peggy and Carol say. (Jill will be too busy at Brookfield.)

R4 · 09/06/2015 10:27

@ Errol. You might be forgiven.

Jessie: my point was that the action that Moike is taking now might ensure that he is not in Christine's position in 20 years' time. She has drifted aimlessly since she sold The Stables.

BertrandRussell · 09/06/2015 10:47

Vicky is reverting to type, isn't she? Everyone thought she was a selfish cow when she first got together with Mike, then she had a personality transplant. It's obviously starting to wear off! I thought the lines about wanting to keep her car in the garage and about the house clearers were particularly horrible.

R4 · 09/06/2015 11:04

That's why I don't mind Moike going - it means I never have to listen to Vicquoi again.
I bet she's on NetHuns

DadDadDad · 09/06/2015 11:16

That last comment prompted a thought: is there an Archers thread on NetMums? I daren't go through the looking glass to find out... Shock

Icimoi · 09/06/2015 12:46

Is Kate a slut? Isn't Toby the first shag she's had since arriving back in Ambridge? Hardly eyebrow raising stuff, is it.

To be fair, though, she's been sniffing round Charlie in a fairly determined fashion.

I was bemused that it seemed to come as an outrageous surprise to Moike that he needed to get the shed sorted by Thursday. Given that they're supposed to move house on Friday, surely it can't have been that astonishing?

Hadron21 · 09/06/2015 12:56

Did Kate and Toby have sex?

ZeroFunDame · 09/06/2015 13:09

Evidence pointing to affirmative answer:

They had time.
Toby hasn't contacted her since the Young Farmers event.
Kate's call to him was extremely hesitant and exploratatory.
Both Brian and Phoebe called him her "boyfriend".

But this is TA - who knows?

Hadron21 · 09/06/2015 13:11

Thanks Zero I have been listening on catch up and thought I'd missed the sordid episode!

"But this is TA - who knows?"

Well according to William Smethurst's book I'm not sure the script writers realised quite how much sex Shula was getting up to, until someone wrote the novelisation of "Shula's Story".

LillianGish · 09/06/2015 18:55

I think Kate will invite Toby to her party and he will make a pass at Phoebe - she won't be interested but Kate won't like the competition.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 09/06/2015 19:11

Why is pip sooooo annoying!!

Good to hear Alice at last.

PseudoBadger · 09/06/2015 19:14

A fete worse than death indeed!

Is it just me or was the Charlie and Adam chat written by a smart arse sw who thinks he's cleverer than he is?

Talk about fulfilling the education function in a typically bbc and clunky way - we just get lots of rants from one view point.

ZeroFunDame · 09/06/2015 19:18

It did sound inserted ...

Probably by Graham Harvey I suppose?

And Adam's radical stance sounded a bit silly when he'd jumped at Charlie's bidding with 15 minutes notice.
