Won't someone please give Kenton a kick in the FA Cup Finals, and a link to Money Saving Expert?

Heather is surely odds on to SOTMC very soon in a 'death by plot device RIP Mrs Landingham' type way - she was the main protagonist in the wankery of 'oooh noooo we've got to move to Pruddah' and now that's done and dusted she's got no further purpose.

Her final act will however not be to usher in 4 more years of tolerant benign government, it will instead be to ensure that Pip does not in fact bugger off to program robot milkers in Brazil and instead stays to work at Brookfield as they all realise just how much they love each other and can't bear to be apart.

Oh yes, Manorfield Close - the old people's bungalows! There used to be regular mentions of the over 60s club and most of the people attending lived in Manorfield Close.

From my books (see below) I see the residents included Mrs Perkins, Peggy's mother, and Colonel Danby, who used to live with Great Aunt Laura Archer at Ambridge Hall. He should have inherited the Hall but Aunt Laura didn't sign the will, so it went to a distant niece who sold it to Lynda and Robert. [Col Danby was Ballard Berkeley, who was also the Major in Fawlty Towers.]

According to The Book of The Archers and The Archers Enclyclopaedia, Manor Court is an 18th century gentleman's house bought by John Tregorran from Ralph Bellamy in 1968. Ralph's father, Admiral Bellamy, lived there. [Never heard of him before!] It was sold when the Tregorrans left Ambridge in 1984.

I see there was also a Manor House, which is where Carol lived before she married John Tregorran. She sold it and I don't think it's ever been heard of again.

I am getting an image of a village where the houses just tiptoe off when they're not needed any more. The Cat and Fiddle used to be like that - its location was never the same from year to year.

mummytime · 08/06/2015 19:00

Manorfield close really does need to be mentioned, because I remember people living there.I've just got my map out, and Manorfield Close is just opposite the Village Hall, with Manor Court just next to it. They could have been affected by the flooding? (No sign of a Manor House.)

ZeroFunDame · 08/06/2015 19:09

Oooh - is Mike going to feel so superfluous that he decides to stay in Ambridge alone?

Perhaps this will be the new SOC trope?

NelsonsWineBar · 08/06/2015 19:16

I remember Manorfield Close from when Linda was worried about donations of old pots&pans to the village hall and she was fretting about the aluminium giving the residents dementia/Alzheimers.

Love the idea of the wandering Cat & Fiddle.

mummytime · 08/06/2015 19:50

Vicky was dreadful tonight, totally wrapped up in her and Bethany, and no thought of consideration for Mike.

ZeroFunDame · 08/06/2015 19:54

Did sound as if she might soon decide there's no room for Mike at all in the new house.

Was nice that Phoebe picked up on it. Perhaps he'll have to move in with Roy. Grin

The SOC handbook of radio drama. Chapter 3: Compare and Contrast. Again.
This week: moving house.

It's not literary nor clever. It's very obvious, very clunky and very tedious.

Do we think that after Kate has begged a reluctant Phoebe to sleepover because Kate doesn't want to spend the first night in the cottage alone, when it comes to the crunch she will throw her over in favour of some hand-holding (and the rest) from Toby?

Yes sheltered housing wpuld be perfect for Christine,as suggested by Peggoi, but noth if them appear to have forgotten Manorfield as C said "there is nothing like that in the village".

Also.Bert has been back to the bungalow (me tioned last week) but not sure if he is living there.

DoctorTwo · 09/06/2015 04:12

I wouldn’t say that Kate was easy, but her nickname is ‘Open Goal’ and she wears a mattress strapped to her back in case she meets anyone she knows while she’s out

Think what you like about Kate but this from Haharchers is pure slut shaming and just not acceptable. It's 2015 and a woman is allowed full autonomy over her actions and can shag or not shag whoever she likes. It's cheap, lazy and misogynistic writing.

PseudoBadger · 09/06/2015 05:25

Last night was a poor Ab Fab tribute phoebe daaaahhhling

To be fair (she said through gritted teeth) I don't think Manorfield Close is sheltered housing, just bungalows. Back in the early 80s that was as good as it got when it came to designing housing for older people who didn't want to go into a home. It may well be council housing (or was).

Eastpoint · 09/06/2015 05:46

Poor Phoebe, Kate is so horribly selfish. I liked Brian telling Kate that she is nearly twice Toby's age - are we still doing BOOP points?

CuttedUpPear · 09/06/2015 06:02

I agree with DoctorTwo's comment.
To talk about one participant in a liaison in that way (surprise surprise, it's the female) is misogynistic.
Not nice and not expected on this thread either. Angry

mummytime · 09/06/2015 06:40

Oh I think we're building up to a full picture of what a wastrel and "slut" Toby is. We had Kate trying to phone him, and from what Rex has said about him, I don't think he's going to make a very good business partner.

stilllearnin · 09/06/2015 06:56

I'd never heard of haharchers - is it written by teenage boys in the 80s? 'open goal'?! Shock The flirting was cringy but luckily it wasn't me doing it Wink (God, the horror when you think back to some of the things you've said!)

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 09/06/2015 07:06

I also think they're building up to Kate rejecting Pheobe on her first night in the cottage.

Is Kate a slut? Isn't Toby the first shag she's had since arriving back in Ambridge? Hardly eyebrow raising stuff, is it. So, misogynistic and inaccurate. Bad writing all round, haharchers.

JessieMcJessie · 09/06/2015 07:20

Did anyone else notice the little SW in-joke with Mike? Adam said that M&V's house was "like the Tardis" and Mike didn't get the reference.....Terry Molloy, the Mike actor, played Davros chief Dalek in Doctor Who at its eighties height.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2015 08:06

Poor moike. What's he going to do with his chainsaws in brum? Still, at least they're not departing off-air which was what seemed to be happening and would have been shitty.

BOOP for brine and feebs with Kate.

R4 · 09/06/2015 08:19

Ah, well spotted Jessie. It was one of those moments where the conversation felt instinctively wrong (who doesn't know what the Tardis is?) but I didn't know why - it was because they were doing an in-joke. Harrumph.

LillianGish · 09/06/2015 08:24

Thanks for pointing that out Jessie I'd forgotten. Wondering if Moike is going to have a David Archer epiphany and refuse to leave Ambridge - Vickoi BVU!!!! Doesn't bode well.

JessieMcJessie · 09/06/2015 08:32

I kind of heard it as Mike just not really listening to Adam since he was a bit stressed out with the move, rather than being the only person in Britain not to have heard of the Tardis.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2015 08:33

Maybe Mike could leave some of his stuff with Roy and then come back to visit. Mike has been around forever, it doesn't seem right that he should totally disappear.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 09/06/2015 08:48

I don't like the way they are going with Kate. I can't help thinking she is becoming a caricature of the ex wife of a bitter sw

And let's face it, Toby will just be called a cad, lock up your daughters go ha ha
