Have you had your free venison burger?

OP posts:

(not the cereals one i have to say - the ones i go to are more livestock-orientated)

ppeatfruit · 10/06/2014 08:45

mummytime Where's Jim?? I miss him. yes he would definitely had had a lot to say about Daniel's calling to arms. It's no bleedin' picnic that's for sure; our best man's best mate at Sandhurst killed himself there and he couldn't hack it all.

LillianGish · 10/06/2014 08:51

Excellent point Mummytime - where is Jim? I also like Selks idea for the Lizzie/Roy scenario leading to months of awkwardness at work. Not sure that Elizabeth is that desperate though - it's not so long ago that she turned down Ifty who was gorgeous by all accounts.

stilllearnin · 10/06/2014 08:55

Pp that's so sad. You'd think with all the years of training soldiers and advances in understanding of mental health they'd be better equipped to spot that and hopefully prevent it. I imagine it's a lot of pressure as you've invested so much to get there plus the physical and mental pressure of the training itself.

I am loving the people living in Ambridge - if I lived anywhere remotely simlar I would just go right ahead and pretend I was a character 24/7!!

There will be no affairs- do you here? Lizzie and Roy (yuck) and adam and Charlie (grrr). On the road front (yawn) in the lead up to the announcement there was overkill on references to wildlife. Josh or Ben will spot a great crested newt and to the sickening awe of the village will realise this could save them (zzzz....)

stilllearnin · 10/06/2014 08:56

Hear, obv

ppeatfruit · 10/06/2014 08:57

Did we cross post lilian? If anything did happen with LizRo it would just be an office thing; they've got close at work naturally, though now the SWs seem to be veering away from it don't they?

mummytime · 10/06/2014 09:06

I think Dan is going to breeze through Sandhurst - nothing major will go wrong. It will be a bit of a PR exercise for the Armed Forces. Maybe in a few years (or even 5/10+) if they need a bit of drama something will happen.
I know several people who've left Sandhurst, having had to plead to get out - and they were quite tough people. However I doubt Dan will be portrayed that way.

I'm hoping Lizzies has a great time at the festival - and maybe disappears for a bit with a nice ONS. It would be typical if on the other hand Roy has a dreadful time - but thats a bit of a cliche.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/06/2014 09:18

Oh that is a great idea! Elizabeth reborn as a (I don't know the word) "wildly enthusiastic festival goer" (with some interesting new friends) and Roy creeping about in abject misery, all his vital festival aids lost or stolen, food poisoned and covered in bites.

ppeatfruit · 10/06/2014 09:28

Or Lizzie becomes an "eepy" as our ex DIL (who is Portuguese) says ! As in "I'm not an eepy"

Sneezecakesmum · 10/06/2014 10:14

Please don't let Lizzie and Roy 'get it on' at the festival, my skin is crawling!

I have a dreadful premonition they will. So embarrassing. Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 10/06/2014 12:32

Arghh... somehow accidentally hid this thread from showing in my 'I'm on' list, and no idea how to get it back.

WanderingOakensHoohoo · 10/06/2014 12:45

Ah, Lizzie the Crusty Juggler, with a mutt on a length of twine, flowers in her dreads and Mexican silver toe rings on her bare feet.....

WillieWaggledagger · 10/06/2014 13:24

errol if you're on the desktop site:

customise > scroll right to hte bottom of the page > click the link in "Ignore topics in Active Conversations" --> scroll to "hidden threads" and hopefully you should find it there to unhide (click "show")

Just out of interest, I know lots if MNers listen live, on iplayer, podcasts etc. dies anyone else record radio programmes on their TiVo box? It's brilliant, no arising around with laptops or searching for the prog. I think you can also get it on Catch Up via TiVo.
Favourite TA women- what about that lovely Sophie that David nearly married? She popped up again after he'd got married and he fawned over her. Oooh noooah!

Swannykazoo · 10/06/2014 19:16

arf arf arf at the sticky start between charlie and adam

LillianGish · 10/06/2014 19:18

Can't believe Peggy didn't ask about Rob's divorce. In fact it only really occurred to me this evening how ridiculous it is to be engaged to someone who is already married! Also if it is Jess's ring then who in Ambridge might recognise it?

WillieWaggledagger · 10/06/2014 19:30

i guess it suits rob to be just committed enough (i.e. not legally) whilst also having a v good reason not to actually go through with it (he is married and jess is being "difficult" about the divorce)

if she came on here and asked about it people would point it out. i bet susan and emma have commented on it behind her back!

unitarian · 10/06/2014 20:04

We seem to lack the Greek chorus commentary from the local yokels these days.

I long to hear Susan and Clarrie passing comment on the divorce or lack of it. Better still, if Jolene joined in. Jolene's discovery of Rob's behaviour on stag night boded well but went nowhere.

Ian & Adam saw enough to be distressed for Helen yet that went nowhere too.

I appreciate that it needs to be played out over time but there would be some gossip!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 10/06/2014 21:09

Marking place and also sort of catching up as seeming to miss a lot at the moment!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/06/2014 21:15

Flowers thank you willie!

Do we think the SWs read this thread ... Tony just seems to have twigged that they need to talk to Neil re next batch of weaners.

OddFodd · 10/06/2014 23:47

I am sick of the kitchen which is increasingly making JD out to be an absolute idiot when she isn't. And I'm ever more fed up of PatnTony's handwringing.

I want Elizabeth to do drugs and behave unspeakably to liven things up. It's all terribly dreary ATM.

Bluestocking · 11/06/2014 06:46

JD isn't an idiot but she is a spoiled, bored stay-at-home wife. I find all the obsessing about tiles quite convincing - she doesn't have enough to think about and she's convinced herself that she DESERVES the perfect kitchen.

mummytime · 11/06/2014 07:35

I also think the Kitchen is supposed to be a light hearted comedy throw away story line. Just whoever is writing it doesn't really have their heart in it, and is trying to shoehorn all the disasters they have heard from others.
I much prefer Lillian's knitting. (Oh BTW if The Archer's website people are lurking - I couldn't vote this week as I think Linda and Lillian will both be fabulous grandmothers - in their own way!)

R4 · 11/06/2014 08:43

I don't like the kitchen story. We've had years of Brine angsting about how the BL board perceive him, trying to be the alpha male of the jungle, worrying that they will think that he is Past It now he's turned 70, etc.
Why would such a person allow his own domestic project to be such a dismal - and public - farce.
For goodness sake, why didn't they use one of Lillian's contacts? If Amside put a lot of work your way and one of the Director's family want a job doing then you make sure that job is a darned good one.

And, yes, where is the Greek chorus? I find it incredible that Helen moved in with a married man within nano-seconds of his wife leaving and no-one said anything.

mummytime · 11/06/2014 09:16

Yes if the SWs are out there you have got to have someone say when shown the ring "Has he divorced Jess already then?"
Because that would be mine (or my 11 year olds) first comment! Well unless it was "Doesn't that look just like...umm, must dash". (Actually 11 year old would come out with it - and maybe a few other blunt comments.)
