😭

When I picture a nearly £2m house - this isn't it

Just to rub salt in the wound even further - what does £1.7m get you in your neck of the woods?

Is it a house or a greenhouse? I'm all for houseplants, but if you went away you'd need to employ an indoor gardener!

Looks exactly like a lot of offices DH has worked in. Even down to the curved glass meeting room partitions.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 15/11/2024 19:06

The OP’s house is totally
going to be snapped up by a developer, bulldozed and replaced with a massive “luxury” apartment block. You see it a lot in the area.

I looked up Alaska House as I was intrigued as to it's origins,
It was fur manufacturers - I;m guessing turning pelts into clothing rather than keeping the animals here ....

I see the bathroom has one of those blue glass 'contact lens' sinks Smile

Had to go a few miles down the road because you'd buy a village for £1.7 million where I live. It says Cardiff but to me it's right on the outskirts as far as you can get and not what I'd class as Cardiff. Not a bad price for 4 acres of land, I honestly can't believe London prices!

You could have this near me...

Rather lovely!

AnnaKing81 · 15/11/2024 19:32

In Wales, a house overlooking the sea with about six bedrooms stables a barn and land. I'm probably a holiday cottage to rent on the side!

I'm actually in love!

niadainud · 15/11/2024 20:04

That is the stuff of nightmares. Why the fuck is there a fitted sheet on a coffee table?

caffelatte100 · 15/11/2024 20:22

We live in Zurich and property is eye-wateringly expensive. So h £1.25 million pounds gets you a 55 metre one-bedroom ground floor flat in a 1974 apartment block.

It's a very expensive part of London. I'm not surprised. I live in North Herts and you'd get a lot more for your money with that budget.

This one makes Winchmore Hill look a bargain!

A two bed in a fabulous building but not very handy for public transport.
It doesn't even have a view.

Please tell me those glass bedroom walls can be made more opaque.

1 mile from me. This is the the most expensive house. £750K

YorkieIsDefinitelyForGirls · 15/11/2024 21:04

Bit more than budget. But I bloody love this!!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/11/2024 21:59

It's very expensive, but it has a big garden (huge for London) and is detached, also not usual.

lobeydosser · 16/11/2024 03:31

Staggering sum to be asking - although given it's already been reduced doubt it would get anywhere near the guide price. Agree with previous posters that most likely option would be for it to be torn down and developed into flats. Not sure planning permission would be granted. All the other properties there look to be single family households. Bound to object. Plus access off that main road would be difficult.

AntigoneFunn · 16/11/2024 03:56

This one is near me: if you like beams and you've got £1.6 mill or thereabouts

Hoping for a lottery win!!
Stunning house.

Melbourne
$3.5 m (roughly 1.7m quid) and not even a garage of proper garden

or another nearer the bay
https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-port+melbourne-146435444

and because of our weird auction system, these will probably sell for 10-20pct more than is listed.
