😭

When I picture a nearly £2m house - this isn't it

Just to rub salt in the wound even further - what does £1.7m get you in your neck of the woods?

Ooh I love that Topsham one @TiramisuThief I was going to say I bet there's no parking but there's a garage.

deeahgwitch · 15/11/2024 16:09

Beautiful house but interior colour choices wouldn't be to my taste @Imicola

SundayDread · 15/11/2024 16:09

I had to go quite far to get the same amount of money, I think it’s ugly though

That’s not actually London. Round here, £1.7m gets you a terraced house: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/87031806#/?channel=RES_BUY

Nice terraces, to be fair. But, a detached 6 bed house at that price seems completely reasonable to me!

A terraced house right next to a railway line, at that.

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 15/11/2024 16:11

That's huge @ThianWinter - but strange chairs on the landing, surely nobody wants to sit on a landing?

7,000 sq ft Grade II listed in c.18 acres - 6 bedroom main dwelling and 2 bed cottage, plus outbuildings all in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (former AONB)?

I haven't RTFT but I notice it was bought for £275 thousand in 1995. It looks as though whoever bought it did absolutely nothing to it for the last 30 years.

Sorry if somebody else has already made that point.

Lavendersquare · 15/11/2024 16:13

I wasn't expecting a doer upper for £1.7m.

This is what you can get for a similar amount around here. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/152708279

It’s hard out here on the mean streets of N16. 😢

The description for this is the most annoying I've ever read. I would almost make a point of not buying it because of it (not that I could ever afford it🤦🏻‍♀️)

And wankerey photo angles too.

OMG OMG OMG *

I do like the stair carpet though.

I think that’s so tacky and soulless.a good example that money can’t buy taste I’d rather have the Enfield one in current state

ArghhWhatNext · 15/11/2024 16:21

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/154040795#/?channel=RES_BUY This is the closest price match. Lots of people here do one day a week in London and the rest wfh. If you get the early train you can be in central London by 9.30 comfortably. State schools all vg so no wasting your money on private….

Check out this 6 bedroom detached house for sale on Rightmove

It’s a tear down. Potential to build a new mega home worth 3x.

Love this , I would move in and slowly erase the grey but if is Offers Over then who knows !
Do they still price houses in Scotland to go 30% over the original?

Yes there is always the possibility to go 20% or more over the offers over price, depending on the market. Not sure if that holds for the most expensive properties though, I've not yet needed to find out!

Imicola · 15/11/2024 16:31

Blimey, that's a depressing house even without the price tag!

CautiousLurker1 · 15/11/2024 16:31

It would also get you this, which is pretty decent by comparison

Oooo, I always wanted to live in the grange! Used to live just outside of it and enjoyed walking through it to wonder at what went on behind the huge garden walls!

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 15/11/2024 16:35

I'm confused as to why anyone would be surprised that a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom detached house with a big garden in London is expensive. Even up north that house wouldn't be pennies.

Yes, it needs renovating. But it's massive. The land that it's sat on will be worth a fortune on its own, even if you tore the whole house down.

potatocakesinprogress · 15/11/2024 16:35

Where I live £1.7m would get you a 2500-3000 sq ft period famous architect built house with an indoor pool if you wanted. Likely 4 floors. Well-cared for, Farrow & Ball upped to the nines, swish curtains, beautiful fireplaces. Gated historic community, lots of period features and landmarks in the local area as well as in your own home. Tennis club around the corner. You could even buy a famous poet's house for half that.
